| Upping the ante in the spending showdown with Congress, the Obama administration warned Monday that looming automatic budget cuts will expose the nation to a greater risk of terrorist attack and a new influx of illegal immigrants. “I don’t think we can maintain the same level of security,” said Homeland Security Janet Napolitano. “If you have 5,000 fewer border patrol agents, you have 5,000 fewer border patrol agents.” With $85 billion in mandatory so-called “sequester” cuts due to start taking effect Friday, the administration is putting pressure on Republican lawmakers to raise more tax revenue to postpone at least

If the Republicans were serious about educating the public about this, they only need to produce a few ads explaining this. It could be done in 30 second ads. They must go around the media directly to the public. Money spent on these ads would be well spent in my opinion. The can´t let the democrats define the issue. Get serious Republican leaders. This is not rocket science. Put the truth out there. Spend the money on something that could change minds. Don´t let the media and this administration win the messaging war.

Washington — A State Department official on Wednesday offered the first public testimony from an American diplomat who was on the ground in Libya the night last September when the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi was attacked. And he said he was later demoted for raising questions about how the attack was handled. The official, Gregory Hicks, described a frantic series of phone calls from the American Embassy in Tripoli, where he was stationed, to Washington and, ultimately, to J. Christopher Stevens, the American ambassador, who was in Benghazi. He only heard Mr. Stevens utter, “Greg, we’re under attack,”

From the start, the Obama administration’s account of what happened in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11 last year didn’t quite square for Sharyl Attkisson. So the veteran CBS News reporter dug in, and kept digging. The result: Attkisson has been a persistent voice of news-media skepticism about the government’s story. On the air and online, Attkisson has questioned the administration’s timeline and its response. (Snip) While other media, particularly Fox News, have been similarly skeptical about the official narrative about Benghazi, Attkisson and CBS might put the story in a different light. Israeli and Turkish officials reached a draft agreement to mend the three-year diplomatic crisis between the two countries, after a productive meeting at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem on Monday. Ankara broke off relations with Jerusalem in May 2010, after the IDF raided the Mavi Marmara ship as it attempted to break Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza, killing nine Turkish activists on board. “The two sides expect to come to an agreement in the near future,” said a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office. “The meeting was conducted in a good and positive manner. Turkish and Israeli officials will meet on Monday in Israel for another round of talks over compensation for a deadly 2010 raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, a diplomatic source told AFP. "The second round of negotiations will be held in Israel tomorrow," the source said on Sunday, without elaborating. An initial meeting was held in Ankara on April 22 to discuss the amount and the terms of the payment for the compensation by Israel, which Turkey has named as a precondition for normalisation of diplomatic ties. That meeting was the first stage of what Turkish officials have said

The alliance would see Israel teaming up with Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey and the United Arab Emirates to forge a Middle East "moderate crescent" to "contain" Iran, rather than confront it, according to Russian website RT, which quoted the Times. According to the report, such an alliance would give Israel access to radar stations in Saudi Arabia and the UAE in exchange for its own early warning

When it first became clear that the CIA’s Benghazi talking points had been altered, many of us viewed the White House as the prime suspect. After all, it served President Obama’s political purposes to claim, at the height of a political campaign in which he was taking credit for the fall of al Qaeda, that the death of a U.S. ambassador was down to spontaneous outrage over a video, rather than pre-planned terrorism. It turns out, however, that the State Department was the prime culprit. It was State that pushed back hard against the original talking points.

Republican lawmakers, who have spent months seeking to tie President Obama to last year’s deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, are increasingly focusing their probe on a new target: former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton. The GOP-led investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, assaults that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three others now centers heavily on the State Department and whether officials there deliberately misled the public about the nature of the assault. Three State Department officials are scheduled to testify before a House committee on Wednesday about the Benghazi attack and its aftermath.

The buyback program was announced a month after last December´s elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn., by city leaders sick of hearing about gun violence. Sanford defeated Colbert Busch 54 percent to 45 percent, according to full unofficial results. Turnout was heavier than expected, with about 32 percent of the district’s 455,702 registered voters casting ballots. Sanford, who has never lost an election, returns to the 1st District seat he held for three terms from 1995-2001. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, tells Benghazi witnesses that "death is a part of life." CUMMINGS: And, as I listen to your testimony I could not help but think of something that I said very recently -- two years ago now -- in a eulogy for a relative. I said that death is a part of life, so often we have to find a way to make life a part of death. And, I guess the reason why I´m saying that, going back to something Mr. Nordstrom said, he wanted,
