After over a decade spicing up the eating habits of diners around the world, Paul C.P. McIlhenny, the chief executive of Tabasco sauce has died at his New Orleans home of a heart attack. The 68-year-old was chairman of the board of the McIlhenny Co. the family-owned company that has made the world-famous hot sauce from Louisiana´s Avery Island since 1868. I watched a documentary on Tabasco recently and as a capsicum afficionado for many years , had no idea of the process and the time involved in this wonderful product. My friends and family buy me hot sauce as the standard gift- which I really appreciate. However, if I could only have one brand , it would be Tabasco( and all of its new versions). Second to that would be Frank´s. This is after trying and enjoying hundreds of brands and looking forward to hundreds more.

Tabasco was the spice that made many a can of C-Rats palatable to us grunts who had to eat in the field in RVN.

It was really cool..you could write to McIlhenny Company, and they would send you a small bottle of Tabasco. Forty years later, they are still my go-to for Hot sauce.

On a 40th birthday trip my wife and I took to New Orleans a few years ago, we took a side-trip and visited the Tabasco factory on Avery Island.

I still remember that wonderful smell of the fermenting peppers as we drove up.

I have a bottle at home and a bottle at work all the time. Love Tabasco sauce!!!

RIP, good sir.

Our tables are graced by Crystal, also from Louisiana, and by Valentina, from Mexico. Both are delicious and inexpensive, available at Walmart. The former is great on beans, eggs, greens, and such, and the latter, with its slightly smoky flavor, is magnificent on fried chicken.

Sad news. My prayers are with Mr. McIlhenny and his family.

Tabasco - the first, last and only word in pepper sauce. Three years of aging in oaken barrels gives the stuff a flavor and character nothing else can touch.

New technical problems with HealthCare.gov posed a roadblock Monday to people trying to beat the sign-up deadline. On Monday afternoon, a technical glitch was preventing people from filing new applications. A tech team, though, was brought in to resolve the issue. Earlier Monday, a series of error messages came up as the large volume of users stressed the system. According to HHS, more than 100,000 people were using the system at once as of noon. The increased traffic is good news for the administration, but the recurring website problems are not. The deadline to sign up for the president´s signature
