Life without Father
American Thinker, by Eileen F. Toplansky

Original Article

The research continues to affirm it. The statistics highlight it. But actually reading what young people have to say about the reality of missing dads and overworked but caring mothers confirms it. There is no pretense, and the pain is evident. After assigning Langston Hughes´s "Thank You Ma´m" and Anthony Brandt´s "My Grandmother: A Rite of Passage" to my college composition class, I asked them to select one of the following writing choices. Describe a person who has acted as a mother to you.

This inspired choice of composition topic yieled gold. And the solidity of the two-parent family is exactly what PharObama and his evil cohorts want to deny our children. The State cannot birth babies, so mothers are permitted; but the State will be your father-figure until you are old enough to work on his pyramid to the moon god. Above all, children must not be allowed to develop independence or self-reliance.

I just finished reading "Gifted Hands" by Ben Carson. What a wonder read! One of the main points of the book is the effect on the family when the father left. My daughter´s husband left when their two kids were very little. I stepped in to be the father figure as best as grandpa could. Fortunately, they are turning out well. My daughter has since married a wonderful guy that adopted them and i expect everything to be all right.

Makes you wonder what we will see a few years down the line from all the kids now ending up with same sex "marriage" parents. Obviously never exposed to the norm of one father and one mother.

All you conservatives, give it up. All children belong to the State. We are responsible for their understanding of gov´t, interpersonal relationship with same sex, history, and how to properly use a condom.

This is the real "war on women:" Dem government policies that take the fathers out of the home and make the lives of women and children miserable and hard.

Life with Father is the wrong focus. Our society is never going to get back on track until people start getting married before having children and stay married. No fault divorce has not been a positive thing for America´s children. Nor has living together or sex outside of marriage. This is tough medicine--probably too tough for most people. So our decline will continue.

With waves of American college graduates about to hit the job market, it’s a good bet most of them don’t think of the controversial conservative author, Charles Murray, as their mentor. The W. H. Brady Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and author of several books – including Coming Apart (about divided white America) and The Bell Curve (with Richard Herrnstein) – is hardly known as a warm and fuzzy job counselor. Yet, in The Curmudgeon’s Guide to Getting Ahead, a new primer for workplace newbies, Murray dispenses some of the best advice today’s overly coddled millennial grads haven’t yet heard. Related: The

Is it too farfetched to connect the dots between a brilliant Wall Street Journal op-ed by Charles Koch, the chairman and CEO of Koch Industries, and the continued sluggish recovery in jobs, business investment, and the overall economy? I don’t think so. In his piece, Mr. Koch seems to make a plea for a big dose of free-market capitalism. He argues, “The central belief and fatal conceit of the current administration is that you are incapable of running your own life, but those in power are capable of running it for you. This is the essence of big government and

Last week, the national press reported on a 56-year-old high school biology teacher in California who plans to undergo a sex-change operation (i.e. cosmetic surgery) and to return to the classroom appearing as a woman. “To have a teacher be authentic ultimately is good for students and for the community,” said Jennifer Levi of Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders, or GLAAD, an advocacy group in Boston. Sadly, the situation is far more complicated and confusing than advocates of gender confusion or their allies in the media will admit. After months of criticizing what they see as a bullying state bureaucracy, Lou and Linda Pelletier — the parents of 15-year-old Justina — found themselves in a recent court ruling portrayed as repeatedly getting in the way of returning their daughter Connecticut. In last week´s ruling, leaked to the media, Juvenile Court Judge Joseph Johnston said the Pelletiers had been verbally abusive, made threats and generally impeded progress. The parents, he said, "either directly or indirectly, continue to engage in very concerning conduct that does not give this court any confidence they will comply with conditions of custody." Over the last two weeks, New York Magazine’s Jonathan Chait and The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates, two of the internet’s most admired liberal journalists, have engaged in an extended back-and-forth about the legitimacy of public critiques of cultural dysfunction in poor, inner-city African-American culture — and particularly the kind of critiques offered by President Obama, who often speaks exhortatively about personal and parental responsibility in addresses to black audiences. My impression (drawn from Twitter) is that many readers following the debate felt that Coates essentially won it with his most recent entry, a rich brief for the proposition that even (or

A triumphant President Barack Obama declared Tuesday his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better´ in a Rose Garden press conference. But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged appearance is a more unsettling reality. Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night.
