North Carolina slammed for branding illegal
immigrants with ´second-class´ driver´s

that says ´No Lawful Status´

North Carolina will soon start issuing driver´s licenses to some illegal immigrants, but the design of the new cards has sparked outrage among civil libertarians. The licenses have a tell-tale bright pink stripe across the top along with the words ´NO LAWFUL STATUS´ written in bold, which have raised concerns that they will encourage discrimination against those who show it. The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles announced last week they would begin issuing the licenses on March 25 following a lengthy legal review. The Obama administration´s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program grants valid federal work permits to qualified

Nothing wrong with this law. There´s a new liberal movement to push policies that before you get a driver´s license you have to attend a seminar on organ donations. That´s a lot worse to me than this law.

There´s another firestorm brewing in SC that would restrict food stamp recipients from buying "unhealthy" foods. This will get them riled up.Sounds like something Bloomberg would do but he wouldn´t want to alienate his base.

There is no discrimination here. The fact is they have "No lawful status".

In Michigan, the requirements and process for obtaining a driver´s license can take a year for legal citizens. Rather than a pink striped license, I´d prefer a pink uniform from Sheriff Arpaio.

Excellent idea from North Carolina. This should be a national requirement. ´No Lawful Status´, I like the sound of that. It should be quoted more often in other areas when referring to illegal migrants.

This is fine as a temporary measure. But it accomplishes nothing except getting a few licensing dollars into the NC treasury because if someone is willing to illegally breach any country´s borders, I suspect they´d have no problem illegally operating a motor vehicle. I´d rather see a Berlin-type wall on our southern border with one door where those who want to seek legal status can be welcomed through. Oh, and like Berlin, MEXICO should put the wall up.

Reply 11 - Posted by: DWIM, 2/23/2013 8:35:46 AM     (No. 9192175)

What a great idea. Would be nice if many other states adopted such a mechanism. To me, it helps flag officers during a stop that they´r dealing with someone who has already committed a federal office (& therefore, for that specific reason, may be more likely to present greater risk to the officer than others). Hint. View this as a legitimate safety reason for officers during legitimate reasons to ask for approved identification.

So how about it, state legislators? Got the intestinal fortitude to put such a mechanism in place? It´s a safety issue.

This is clearly intended to prevent illegal aliens from using their state-issued driver´s license as photo ID in order to vote illegally.
Those "slamming" NC just want to let illegals vote (reliably Dem). That should be the story, not NC´s crass insensitivity in daring to call an illegal "Not Lawful."

We must begin to pick and parse the statements from the Left and loudly point out the false nature of their premise and their claims. "Aspiring citizens" my aunt Fanny. Hundreds took to the streets as macabre ‘Thatcher death parties’ were held late into the night across the country, organised by critics of the ´Iron Lady.´ Smashed shop windows, paint bombs and police being attacked were all consequences of the Left´s sick ´celebration´ of Baroness Thatcher´s death. In Brixton, south London, riot police were deployed as the crowds, which had been drinking since 5pm, started to become more aggressive smashing shop fronts and throwing paint bomb. In Liverpool, flares and fireworks were set off outside Lime Street Station by revellers, while in Bristol, seven police officers were injured--one seriously--as violence
