David Goldhill is a liberal Democratic business executive whose father was killed by a hospital-borne infection several years ago. The experience drove him to study the American health care system in search of an explanation. “How is it possible,” he writes, “that my father’s death was an avoidable accident with no one to blame?” The answer shocked him. Goldhill discovered that health care is unlike any other industry: Everything about health care—how we pay for it, how we regulate it, how we judge its effectiveness, how we’re willing to accept low standards

I´ve known and heard about quite a few people in my local hospital contracting some kind of bug while they´re in there. Whatever it is,it seems to attack the lungs the most.I think it´s some variation of MRSA.

To make it even worse ,if the victim is on medicare,it probably have to pay the costs of the longer stay in the hospital

I have to tell this story. About 6 months ago I had some testing done at a hospital other than the one my primary care doctor uses by a Dr. not associated with his group. When I saw my primary Dr. 4 months later I asked if he had received copies of those tests. Nope, he didn´t have them. He asked one of his girls where they were. She said any test results not from their hospital were put in a different place. He wanted to see them but nobody knew where they were. My thoughts were if they were put in the patients chart, everyone would know where they were. Unbelieveable. Also the Dr. that performed the tests never did contact me so after 3 months I asked for the results to be sent to me. Well, the girl said on the phone, she was sure the Dr. would want to do some more tests. I told her to do them on someone else, I was done. This is normal in my area. Ohio and PA.

Of course O. care is "old fashioned". Other than whatshisname (Creamer)´s contribution, the "ideas" have been written by Demonrats over a 60 year period. Most likely post WWII. Successive generations of deranged Demonrats added to the plan, that is why it is over 2,000 pages. I believe Rush is also right on this one, it has been in a drawer for more than a half century and the Demonrats pulled it out when the time was right and were so absorbed in passing it that they did not bother to read it.

Can´t imagine the backlash when coal and oil are completely "killed" and citizens find out that wood stoves are outlawed by the O. care law. In fact, a stove cannot be sold, it must be destroyed. I assume that also means no smoke from a fireplace. Good luck staying warm during N.E. winters once O. care if fully implemented.

Not mentioned in the article, but relevant is the amount of alternative medicine (like acupuncture, and Chinese Herbal medicine) that´s available in Singapore.
The US lacks a competitive view of medicine to that held by the American Medical Association - competition from alternative medicines would make everyone sharper.

Since the 1950s, geological reports on the hill that buckled during the weekend in Snohomish County have included pessimistic analyses and the occasional dire prediction. But no language seems more prescient than what appears in a 1999 report filed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, warning of “the potential for a large catastrophic failure.” That report was written by Daniel J. Miller and his wife, Lynne Rodgers Miller. When she saw the news of the mudslide Saturday, she knew right away where the land had given way. Her husband knew, too. “We’ve known it would happen at some point,”

How Republicans Can Win Black Votes

Recently former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice added her voice to those who have long been urging the Republican party to reach out to black voters. Not only is that long overdue, what is also long overdue is putting some time — and, above all, some serious thought — into how to go about doing it. Too many Republicans seem to think that the way to “reach out” is to offer blacks and other minorities what the Democrats are offering them. Some have even suggested that the channels to use are organizations like the NAACP and black “leaders” like Jesse Jackson

The State Department purchased two Mitsubishi pick-ups for $50,000 to be used by the border police in Albania. The U.S. government has already bought six L200 Double Cab Mitsubishis for the Albanian Border Police (ABP), and said the two additional vehicles will “fulfill the ABP’s needs.” “The vehicles will be provided to the Albanian Border Police (ABP) under a U.S. Government funded nonproliferation assistance program,” the contract said. “The ABP will deploy the vehicles to the Regional Border Police Directorates in Albania for patrolling, monitoring and controlling its land borders, and to interdict illicit trafficking across those borders.” The two new Mitsubishis will

The mountain of broken down televisions and computer screens caught fire at around 11 o’clock in the morning, sending a thick plume of grey smoke over the tiny Utah town of Parowan. Soon, about ten fire trucks from neighboring towns Paragonah and Brian joined local firefighters on the scene, and authorities shut down an entire mile of Interstate 15. The firefighters extinguished the blaze within a few hours, but the larger danger remains. The March 2 fire was just one symptom of enormous problem that’s spreading across the country. In the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, several public figures, most notably former Vice President Dick Cheney and Senator Ted Cruz, have called to resurrect a plan to build missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic that President Obama canceled in 2009. They’re on to something. The proposed missile defense sites would have protected the U.S. and Europe from Iranian missiles. They were comprised of 10 large interceptors (think bullets) that were to be placed in Poland – too close, too big and too few to affect the Russian arsenal. KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- China demanded that Malaysia turn over the satellite data used to conclude that a Malaysia Airlines jetliner had crashed in the southern Indian Ocean killing everyone on board, as gale-force winds and heavy rain on Tuesday halted the search for any remains of the plane. The weather is expected to improve so that the multinational search being conducted out of Perth, Australia, could possibly resume Wednesday. But even then, the searchers face a daunting task of combing a vast expanse of choppy seas for suspected remnants of the aircraft sighted earlier. "We´re not searching for a needle in

But that hasn´t convinced the environmental lobby´s heavy hitters to cut checks for Landrieu. In the past year, only one environmental organization has donated to her campaign. The narcotics, posted from an unnamed South American country, were in liquid form and had been poured into the condoms and placed in the package addressed to the main postal centre at the Vatican. A pair of potentially catastrophic cases will be argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. These cases are brought by privately held, for-profit corporations that are arguing their religious convictions should preclude them from offering employees the health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers don’t want to allow their employees’ insurance to cover some forms of birth control because, contrary to medicaland scientific evidence, they believe some birth control causes abortions. Corporations are not people. Corporations cannot have religious views. If religious rights are extended to corporations, it puts us on a slippery slope where any private company

The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,
