You May Be Right,
Mr. President, But This Is Crazy

National Journal, by Ron Fournier

Original Article

Posted By:FlyRight, 2/20/2013 2:20:45 PM

Your federal government is almost certain to blow past the March 1 deadline for averting $1.2 trillion in haphazard budget cuts that could cost 700,000 jobs. Don’t worry. We know whom to blame. President Obama makes a credible case that he has reached farther toward compromise than House Republicans. But knowing who’s at fault doesn’t fix the problem. To loosely quote Billy Joel: You may be right, Mr. President, but this is crazy. Is this fiscal standoff (the fifth since Republicans took control of the House in 2011) just about scoring political points, or is it about governing?

...the man lies over and over again, fighting straw men and refusing to govern. It´s all politics and we are in harms way without a leader...

Am I the only one see that nothing is going to happen on Mar 1? They are just going to postpone budget cuts again, just like they did before. They will kick the can down the road one more time and Obama will claim to have saved the country from those terrible Republicans.

There were 20 legislators who voted for what was called the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, known to US as TARP in 2008, that lost their jobs in the midterms of 2010. We know now what a success that idea was in throwing money down a black hole with not real results for the American people. 0bama is still touting the same "shovel-ready jobs," because in his mind, we are a third-world nation with no education to do better with our time. Sounds pretty racist to me.

Can´t wait to see how the numbers show up in the unemployment figures.

Bronco Bama does not govern, he only campaigns. If he ever did settle down o the business of seriously exercising his power to govern as President, he would be held accountable, and that, he cannot afford at any price.

Believe it or not, his performance on the night the four Americans were captured and later killed at Benghazi was probably the closest he ever came to making a decision, which he dropped in the laps of the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State, both of whom dropped the hot potato.

Malaysia Airlines officials on Tuesday defended their decision to notify relatives of missing passengers of Flight 370´s presumed fate via text message, as China demanded that Malaysia turn over satellite data it used to conclude the jet was lost with no survivors. Malaysian Airlines CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya told a press conference that the company´s "sole motivation" for informing passengers´ family members of their findings through text message was to ensure "the families heard the tragic news before the world did."My heart breaks to think of the unimaginable pain suffered by all the families," Yahya told reporters at Kuala Lumpur International

The Obama administration will soon issue new Obamacare guidelines allowing people to enroll in health coverage after a March 31 deadline, but only under certain circumstances, according to sources close to the administration. The sources said the new federal guidelines for consumers in the 36 states served by the federal health insurance marketplace and its website, HealthCare.gov, would allow people to enroll after March 31 if they had tried earlier and were prevented by system problems including technical glitches. On Friday, the administration published in the Federal Register new regulations that would allow state-run marketplaces new flexibility in setting insurance coverage effective

In the wake of the Romney/Ryan ticket’s defeat in 2012, progressive pundits engaged in a round of self-congratulation, spending considerable hours pontificating on the systemic and intractable defects plaguing the GOP. Some on the left observed that the Republican Party fails to appeal to young and minority voters because they are viewed as a party focused entirely on preserving the gains made by those who are already successful. They advised the GOP to devote their attention to the problems faced by everyday Americans, specifically those of the less fortunate. It may surprise you to know that partisan Democrats do not

SALEM, Ore. — As the federal health care overhaul was rolled out over the last few years, Oregon was invariably the eager overachiever in the first row, waving a hand to volunteer. The governor, John Kitzhaber, a doctor who left the emergency room for politics, made health care his main issue. Fellow Democrats controlling the Legislature went along, embracing ambitious plans to extend insurance coverage and Medicaid to low-income residents. Yet for all that, by some measures Oregon has among the most dysfunctional online insurance exchanges in the nation. Only about 50,000 people in Oregon have signed up for a commercial

Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration. The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs. The sticker shock would likely bolster the GOP’s prospects in November and hamper ObamaCare insurance enrollment efforts in 2015. The industry complaints come less than a week after Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sought to downplay concerns about rising premiums in the healthcare sector. She told lawmakers rates would increase in 2015 but

A pair of potentially catastrophic cases will be argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. These cases are brought by privately held, for-profit corporations that are arguing their religious convictions should preclude them from offering employees the health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers don’t want to allow their employees’ insurance to cover some forms of birth control because, contrary to medicaland scientific evidence, they believe some birth control causes abortions. Corporations are not people. Corporations cannot have religious views. If religious rights are extended to corporations, it puts us on a slippery slope where any private company
