| An 80-year-old woman was knocked off her scooter when she tried to fight off a man robbing her of her purse in Gloucester City. Police allege that 22-year-old John E. Reed approached the woman from behind while she was riding her electric scooter on the 500 block of Cumberland Street at about 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Reed grabbed the woman´s purse and tried to flee, but the woman wouldn´t let go, according to Gloucester City police. He then pushed the woman, knocking her off the scooter, and ran away with the purse.

My mother is 79 and I finally convinced her to stop carrying a purse. She carries the bare minimum of what she needs in her pocket.
One of our friends ended up in the hospital with a dislocated shoulder, multiple cuts and bruises, and a screwed up knee. All because someone on a bicycle grabbed her shoulder bag and dragged her when it didn´t come off easily.
My favorite story is about the woman who was out walking her dog and got mugged. The guy took the purse and got a surprise. She kept her wallet in a paper bag and put the poop in the purse! Now that´s getting what you deserve!

Perhaps women should go back to the old days and carry their cash in their bosom.
We are headed back to the old west and need to carry a holster.

This honky with a habit is pretty enough to get plenty of attention in prison. Too bad they can´t record the first time he´s raped and send the recording to his victim. [That last sentence suggests I´m no better than he.]

WASHINGTON -- One of the two women who videotaped allegations that New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez paid her for sex has said in an affidavit that she was paid to make the story up, according to a report Monday in the Washington Post. The woman also said she has never met nor seen the Democratic senator, the Post reported, citing court documents and two people briefed on her claim. Instead, in an affidavit she said she and a colleague were paid by a lawyer to make up the claims and read from a script, according to the Post.

Dying is effortless. That became clear to me as I lay on a gurney in an emergency department bay at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. It was 10 p.m., almost five hours since my primary-care physician Michael Cirigliano (better known as Dr. Mike from Fox29) diagnosed me as septic, bundled me into his car, and rushed me to the hospital. After several hours of intravenous antibiotics and four liters of fluid, my blood pressure was crashing, a hallmark of sepsis, a potentially fatal condition caused by an exaggerated immune response to injury or infection.

Given the beating Apple has taken lately—with many questioning its future—it´s important to understand how much television means to Apple. The company´s TV plans are much bigger than just selling iTV sets. [snip] Apple is evolving into an ecosystem, a network that connects to and controls everything from your home to your car to your office. This has the potential to be as impactful as the iPhone and iPad. Today I use iOS apps to control my stereo system (the Sonos) and central air (the Nest).

Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., tells NBC News that the 24-year-old woman he tweeted at during the State of the Union address was not a romantic interest, but in fact his daughter. After “The Hill” reported that Cohen -- who is not married -- deleted tweets saying “ilu,” short for “I love you,” to Victoria Brink, Cohen claimed that nothing was inappropriate and that the woman was a daughter of an old family friend. That old family friend turned out to be an old girlfriend of Cohen’s and Victoria Brink´s mother. Cohen claimed the reason for tweeting Brink

They had no idea what lay in store for them that fateful afternoon. Near the town of Malmedy, in Belgium, Ted Paluch and about 100 other U.S. soldiers had been overwhelmed by German forces during the Battle of the Bulge and compelled to surrender. They dropped their carbines and were herded to a field, where they expected to be taken away in trucks. What happened next turned that day into one of the darkest of World War II. The events are as vivid to Paluch now as when he lived through them nearly seven decades ago. Headline resplit by staff.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
