| The least-plausible sentence in the English language is “We know this works,” when those words are spoken by President Barack Obama. He said them the other day in his State of the Union address about early-childhood education. President Obama called for universal preschool funded by the federal government in cooperation with the states. He cited “study after study” showing that investment in pre-K pays for itself several times over by creating better outcomes for children. He said this about two months after the release of a devastating report on the ineffectiveness of the federal government’s already existing

Nothing, absolutely nothing that obama or his administration says should be trusted. Study after study has shown they lie.

Not bias, not incompetence, not mere lack of intelligence. The evidence that Barack Obama is doing what he is doing to us out of sheer spite, bad intent and revenge (on the entire USA) is now irrefutable.

Obama is by no means alone in his counter-factual, intellectually dishonest, wishful thinking. One of the seductive appeals of Leftist ideology is its promise to replace reality by fantasy. Truth for Leftism is whatever Leftists wish it to be. When reality doesn´t measure up, so much the worse for reality - and for the messengers of such bad news.
Pre-school programs sound like they ought to work, therefore they do work. Indications to the contrary mean nothing except that enough effort(i.e. money) was not devoted to them. Doing twice as much of what did not work before will unquestionably assure success next time.
There is a deeper level. Head start programs ought to work - therefore they do work, whether they work or not. That is, even if it were possible to demonstrate beyond all possible doubt that such programs do not work, they would, in the world of Leftist fantasy ideology, still work. This is the Leftist leap of faith - the same that propelled someone like Obama into the White House.
For Leftist, truth is whatever ought to be true. Whether it is literally true or not is an altogether secondary matter.

Wouldn´t it be interesting to be able to chase down the "study after study" line, as to its origin in the speech writing process, or a follow-up on identifying two or more such studies? Alas, with a Republican president we might have studygate by now, but all is permissible (even laudable) with good King Barack.

Early Childhood Education - a program that sounds so nice, it should work. But it does not. Operation Head Start is a wonderful liberal boondoggle, employs lots of low skilled workers - drivers, cooks, baby sitters. But it doesn´t impart lasting advantages to the chillun. Red or yellow, black or white, it is ineffective by all rights.

I think there is a larger story to be pursued by a conservative writer: not just the ´faux empiricist´ but rather, the ´faux men-of-science´ slant that the left takes.
I´m annoyed and angered by the Left´s supposed monopoly on science, with regard to global warming (ahem...I mean "climate change"), genetics, energy production, healthcare, land and crop management, educational and social sciences, and geophysics. They pretend that they, by the sheer superiority of their liberalism, that reality too must conform to their worldview. And then they are smug and arrogant about this clear advantage of liberal thought.

While a study might show some improvement in a impoverished child taken from a single parent home, it would be wrong to assume that the results would extend to a child who is raised in a home with better conditions. The result of applying such a limited study and instituting a program for ALL children would have disastrous results and would surely dumb-down everyone and ruin the whole generation.

The only thing that is practically guaranteed to create a better outcome for children is a stable home with 2 educated parents that care more about their children than themselves. With every other situation, the chances of a positive outcome are reduced.

All this is, is a grab for children to start the brainwashing propaganda even earlier. If education is so important, why oh why are our schools such a disaster? We throw enough money per child at the schools in this country to send each of them to class in limos and feed them steak and lobster for lunch. Instead, all the money goes to the teacher unions and school admin.

To many in our cultural elite, Woody Guthrie is an American saint. The legendary songwriter from Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, is introduced to every American child by way of his folk anthem “This Land Is Your Land.” But for gatekeepers of the arts, Guthrie is much more: All of his work—every song, every article, every poem—is good and honest and true, the gospel according to Woody. What other justification is there for the release of this deservedly long-lost novel? Completed in 1947 but only recently “rediscovered,” House of Earth is an incoherent polemic interspersed with erotic scenes and rambling descriptions

Looks like it’s Let’s Make a Deal time this month, except perhaps for budgets, at least for the moment. At the same time the Senate has cut a deal on gun control by, er, making the status quo slightly more muscular, the Gang of Eight has reached a deal in principle on immigration. (Snip) The schedule outlined by the aides is meant to satisfy Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who has said repeatedly that he wants a full debate and amendment process, to maximize the chances that the final vote is an overwhelming majority.

‘Comprehensive immigration reform,” a deal on which is reportedly imminent, has a lot of moving parts — too many, in truth, as with most “comprehensive” legislation. Among the costs of comprehensivism is that debate over such bills often gets bogged down in the many details. Americans seeking to evaluate any deal should ask three questions about it to cut through the noise. First: Will it encourage future illegal immigration? This has always been the greatest risk of proposals to provide legal status for current illegal immigrants: that it will be seen as a reason for others to come here illegally

Republican leaders in Congress received a dire warning on Tuesday from former Vice President Dick Cheney on the ongoing crisis in North Korea. “We’re in deep doo doo,” Cheney told lawmakers, according to a GOP leadership aide. Cheney added the current North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, is unpredictable and doesn´t share the United States worldview. One lawmaker present at the session, Rep. Steve Southerland of Florida, said Cheney wore a cowboy hat and "looked really good, spoke really clearly, lucidly.” “It was nice to see him doing well,” Southerland said, noting the last time Cheney was on Capitol Hill

How many federal agencies does it take to do catfish safety inspections? At least three, according to the Government Accountability Office, which on Tuesday released its 2013 report on fragmentation and duplication of federal programs. This year´s report -- there were two previous editions of the report first requested by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. -- documents an estimated $95 billion in duplicative programs that waste precious tax dollars. That brings the three-year total of potential savings documented by GAO to $295 billion. Having three agencies doing catfish safety inspections may strike some as funny, but there is nothing to laugh about

Alan Dershowitz can be a frustrating man, but when he is good, he is very, very good. I witnessed his courage personally a few years back when I was part of delegation with him at the Durban II Conference in Geneva. Dershowitz was a one-man resistance band then, protesting the speech of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at that UN-sponsored festival of anti-Semitism. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”
