| Happy President´s Day! It´s a good day to be an American--hello, federal holiday--and even better to be (former) president. The guys who once occupied the White House tend to rake in a lot of cash once they leave, and many come in with plenty on hand. The office has almost always been exclusive to those who can afford to costs of running for it, and this year´s updated list of the wealthiest presidents shows just how rich those men are. It says something that had he been elected, Mitt Romney, whose extraordinary wealth was

You think they were rich? Wait this the scammer-in-chief and Michelle Antoinette get finished with us about 40 years from now. What with Mau-Mauing the Flackcatchers, roiling up every black trumped-up organization from the New Black Panthers to the Congressional Black Congress, Guilty as Hell and Free as a Bird preaching the gospel-a-la-Wright at every Black church with more than 400 members, being adored by every butt-in-the-air media toadie all the way through the final blessed funeral ceremonies. Then you´ll know what a rich president is really like.

The four "Liberal Lions" on the list, FDR, JFK, LBJ and Slick Willie, all shared/share a basic philosophy concerning money..."It grows on trees.":
Franklin D. Roosevelt: "Born with a silver spoon in his mouth"; never punched a time clock his entire life; never had to balance a checkbook; net worth $60,000,000.00.
John F. Kennedy: A multimillionaire at birth; never had to balance a checkbook or work a regular job; family net worth $1,000,000,000.00.
Landslide Lyndon B. Johnson: Had to borrow the bus fare to Washington, D.C. in 1932; After forty-one years as a "humble public servant," final estate valued at $98,000,000.00.
William Jefferson Blythe Clinton: Another lifelong "humble public servant," felon and disbarred barrister; now worth $55,000,000.00.

#2: Hmmm. One wonders whether Martha knew about Mary? Starts to sound Biblical. LOL
FTA: "Congress voted to pay him $25,000 per year... which he reluctantly accepted so as to avoid setting precedent where only those wealthy enough to serve without salary could be president."
Yet another example of Washington´s far-seeing wisdom and, though it might seem otherwise, selflessness in some sense. The future of the new Republic was paramount to him. Always.
Washington, BTW, served as General of the Continental Army for no salary, just his expenses. In that wartime service, in part perhaps because he favored white horses, seven horses were shot from under him.
Few later Presidents were comparable. Certainly none surpassed him. We have had many, lately in particular, who soiled the office, and fell incalculably short of what the Great Office should draw and evoke. George Washington of course received a pristine office, as it did not exist except in concept until he was sworn in. He "held it aloft" like the Stars and Stripes [another G.W. story in that, even] even as, each day, day by day, he "created" it. The better as President a man might wish to be, the better he would serve the Republic, the more he will study and emulate George Washington. The path is clear for all to see.

Perhaps the question should be how many politicians went to DC broke and became millionaires from perks ?

But...but...we´ve been told for 50 years that republicans are the party of the rich. Yet, here we have demonrats actually being shown as the party of the rich.
It reminds me of the Fed and demonrat bankers. The Fed makes them take money at zero percent; the banks turn around and park that money at the Fed; the Fed has to pay interest on that money. When hypper-inflation finally comes to pass, taxpayer money will end up paying for the whole thing. Aren´t demonrats great! Who´s the party of the rich now? Hmmmm?

It should be noted that while Washington, Madison, and Jefferson are listed as the wealthiest, they risked their fortunes in the American Revolution - as well as their lives and sacred honor. On the other hand, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama risked nothing. And there was no "sacred honor" to be at risk in the first place. LBJ may have been the first of the Democrat presidents who became rich as a result of their "public service." Bill and Hillary Clinton put LBJ to shame as a grifter.

The Government Services Administration is organizing the auction for the McDonnell Douglas DC9-32, currently stored at an airport in Mesa, Arizona, and the auction begins on May 15. The starting bid for the aircraft is $50,000. Still bearing the insignia of the presidential fleet, the plane is now sitting at the Phoenix/Mesa Gateway Airport as it awaits its future. The meeting was conducted on "deep background," according to White House spokesman Josh Earnest, but sources told POLITICO that the existence of the meeting was "off the record." The meeting began around 12:45 p.m. and postponed the daily, on-the-record White House press briefing until mid-afternoon.(Snip) UPDATE (3:05 p.m.): I asked Earnest to explain the meaning of "deep background,"

During a “Google Hangout,” MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell grilled Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday about a week of revelations regarding how the United States responded to the attack on an American consulate in Benghazi. Mitchell asked about the week’s events, beginning with the testimony by three career diplomats stationed in Libya and concluding with Friday’s publication of the State Department talking points amended to remove references to Islamic terrorism. “I really haven’t learned anything new,” Kerry said. “Can you reassure the American people today that was not a politically motivated cover-up [regarding Benghazi]?” Mitchell asked.

Conservative groups have rejected an Internal Revenue Service apology for unjustifiably scrutinizing tax-exempt conservative groups during the 2012 election cycle. The IRS apology has seemingly validated conservatives´ fears of politically motivated regulation. Lois Lerner, the director the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt organizations, said that organizations had been given additional scrutiny if their applications included the words "Tea Party" or "patriot." The practice originated with "low-level" employees in Cincinnati, according to an Associated Press report. In a press conference on Friday, Lerner called the actions of these employees "absolutely inappropriate."

Bryce Reed was booked into the McLennan County Jail on the federal charge at 2:40 a.m., then booked out at 7:42 a.m. and released into the custody of agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to McLennan County jail records. It was not immediately clear what led to the charges against Reed.

Arlington, VA -Prince Harry has paid his respects to the country´s fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery - a somber visit that comes in stark contrast to the hysteria on his arrival in the U.S. on Thursday. The prince, himself a soldier, visited the site in Virginia, an extraordinary peaceful and beautiful spot overlooking Washington, sheltered by oaks and dogwoods, on Friday morning. Wearing the No. 1 Ceremonial Dress of the Blues and Royals, to which he is still formally attached, as well as his light blue Army Air Corps beret, Harry, 28,

As a presidential speech writer for the first Bush White House, I am always very interested in what presidents say in their formal speeches. They know, of course, that their remarks will be widely covered by the press, studied by analysts, and influential in contemporary political debates. For that reason, presidents rarely speak off-the-cuff, and their every word is carefully chosen for exactly the message the White House wants to convey to the public. Their graduation speeches, like all presidential addresses, go through many drafts and are reviewed by high-level administration officials

Northwestern University continued to stumble over diversity issues this week as Mexican students voiced disagreement with a campuswide letter that advised students not to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by engaging in racially-offensive activities, such as eating tacos and drinking tequila. The letter was sent to students via e-mail, and published in The Daily Northwestern last week. Leaders of Alianza, a Latino student group, and the Associated Student Government called on students to remember that Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla. It is not a day to throw a sombrero-themed party, they said.

When it became clear last fall that the CIA’s now discredited Benghazi talking points were flawed, the White House said repeatedly the document were put together almost entirely by the intelligence community, but White House documents reviewed by Congress suggest a different story. ABC News has obtained 12 different versions of the talking points that show they were extensive edited as they evolved from the drafts first written entirely by the CIA to the final version distributed to Congress and to U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice before she appeared on five talk shows the Sunday after that attack.

Friday, White House press secretary Jay Carney blamed Mitt Romney and Republicans for “politicizing” the Benghazi terrorist attacks. Harkening back to a Mitt Romney press conference on September 12, 2012, which addressed the Benghazi attacks only in passing while focusing instead on the assault on the American embassy in Cairo, Egypt, Carney suggested that Romney had tried to target the innocent Obama administration for telling the truth about Benghazi. “Republicans, again, in this ongoing effort that began in the hours after the attack when Mitt Romney put out a press release to try to take political

She weathered Whitewater. She made it past Monica ?Lewinsky. Now Hillary Clinton is hoping to beat the rap on Benghazi and make it to the White House. The Clinton political machine is in full campaign mode already, preparing for 2016 and hoping voters forget by then that she had a key role in the Obama administration’s handling of the terror attack. But that’s becoming more difficult as the GOP appears to be laying the groundwork for tying Clinton to Benghazi and making sure it stays front and center in the next campaign. Some of the testimony from State Department whistleblowers

The most notable takeaway from Jay Carney’s incomprehensible Friday appearance had little to do with his Klingon grammar. Carney does not represent the historical value of the event – you should be wise to forget his performance, and instead take note that he was flanked by the entire room, without exception. Do not underestimate the significance: the Obama administration has not faced such an onslaught of truth-seeking since he took office in 2008, and further, no Democratic administration has been charged from all sides like this in recent memory. That press conference was unthinkable just days ago

John McCain is going to release a bill that would dismantle cable as it´s currently constructed, Brenden Sasso at The Hill reports. The legislation would force cable companies and satellite TV providers to give consumers an option to pick and choose which channels they get. This is called "à la carte programming," and it´s long been a dream of consumers who only want a handful of channels. McCain tried to introduce similar legislation in 2006 and it went nowhere.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service is apologizing for inappropriately flagging conservative political groups for additional reviews during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt groups, said organizations that included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status were singled out for additional reviews. Lerner said the practice, initiated by low-level workers in Cincinnati, was wrong and she apologized while speaking at a conference in Washington. Congressman Frank Wolf of Virginia has written House Speaker John Boehner, requesting the creation of a bipartisan Select Committee to investigate the Benghazi terror debacle. It is an excellent idea. A Select Committee is the only means available now for the U.S. political system to extricate itself from the labyrinth called Benghazi. There have been two fulcrum events in the accounting of what happened in Benghazi. The first was U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice´s September 16 declarations on TV that Benghazi was part of the Islamic world´s violent, spontaneous reaction to the incendiary California YouTube video.
