U.S. office supply chains Office Depot Inc. and Naperville-based OfficeMax Inc. are in advanced discussions for a merger, a person familiar with the matter said on Monday. A deal could come as soon as this week, that person said, adding that the talks were ongoing and could still fall apart. Currently, the deal is expected to be structured as a stock-for-stock transaction, the person said. Neither company responded to requests seeking comment. One of OfficeMax´s top shareholders, Neuberger Berman, said it would support a merger with Office Depot depending on terms of the deal,

These two stores should merge. I have constantly confused their names. It´s time for clarity.

I´m surprised both companies are still that big. I occasionally go to a Staples near my office, but otherwise it´s Amazon or Shoplet. Shoplet sends you candy with your order. Mmmmm.

Every time I decide to make a comment someone beats me to it.

I agree with # 1...I can NEVER remember which "Office" had what I needed. Finally, one less thing to remember.

This was my first thought too - I can never remember which is which. A most welcome merger for that reason alone.

We can´t tell them apart, either.

We refer to them collectively as "Office Clone."

Anti-trust laws? Srsly? There are tons of office product companies out there.

I vastly prefer Staples to either of these. I think the new name should either be Office Maxpot or Office DeMax.

There is one of each less than two miles from my house. They are both nearly void of customes most of the time - especially Office Max.

Shopping the Sunday advertisements isn’t much different at the two stores.

At Office Depot the really attractively prices computers are sold out by the time you get there. They probably only have one or two (maybe none).

At Office Max they give big sale prices on computers they never have in stock. They will order you one but its not in stock. They try to sell you something else.

Bait and switch is alive and well at both of these stores here in northern Colorado.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — More than four days after a Malaysian jetliner went missing en route to Beijing, authorities acknowledged Wednesday they didn´t know which direction the plane carrying 239 passengers was heading when it disappeared, vastly complicating efforts to find it. Amid intensifying confusion and occasionally contradictory statements, the country´s civil aviation authorities and the military both said the plane may have turned back from its last known position between Malaysian and Vietnam, possibly as far as the Strait of Malacca, a busy shipping lane on the western side of Malaysia. A man whose $50,000 coin collection was first stolen, then hocked, cannot recover it from Las Vegas´ famous "Pawn Stars" pawn shop. Reason: The hock shop claims it melted the coins down. According to a criminal complaint filed by the State of Nevada in Clark County Justice Court, a coin collection valued by its owner, David Walters, at up to $50,000, was stolen from Walters´ Las Vegas home in November 2013 by Walters´ niece, Jennifer Beckman. Court documents say Walters´ collection--kept in a bag hidden under a dresser--contained such rarities as a 1903 St. Gaudens $20 gold piece and Silver

Republicans scored a significant victory in a special congressional election Tuesday, holding on to a seat in a swing district in Florida that Democrats had high hopes of capturing after a campaign that focused heavily on President Obama´s healthcare law. That´s bad news for Democrats and probably will set off a new round of nervousness among party strategists and office holders as they look ahead to the fall. General Motors Co.´s (GM) recall of 1.6 million vehicles could prove to be one of the most costly in automotive history. The company not only faces fines. The legal liability triggered by what could be thousands of personal injury lawsuits may be just as damaging to the reputation of GM´s important brands, which almost certainly will erode sales. At the heart of the injury to GM is the accusation that some of its employees knew about an ignition switch fault as early as 2004. SAN FRANCISCO - California´s greenhouse gas reduction law already has shaken up the state´s industrial sector, costing it more than $1.5 billion in pollution permit fees. It´s now poised to hit the pocketbooks of everyday Californians. Starting next year, the law will force fuel distributors into the same cap-and-trade marketplace as utilities and major manufacturers.
