ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Operators of an Alaska lodge ran to help two people after their small plane stalled and crashed in a scenic mountain pass northwest of Anchorage. One of those injured Sunday afternoon was a well-known Anchorage lawyer. The other was a man who planned to race in this year´s 2,000-mile Iron Dog snowmobile race but withdrew before the race start on Sunday morning because of injury. The Rainy Pass Lodge is run by the Perrins family, who reported that the plane, which was following the snowmobile race route,

Interesting to catch the Iron Dog Race with their GPS tracking.

Stalling: Pilot simply not paying attention to flying the airplane. Important men? Perhaps. Good pilots? Nope...

Inattentive pilot. The stall horn had to have been sounding solidly during the turn (unless there was a mechanical problem with the aircraft or stall warning system). A pilot is trained from the beginning of his training to recognize and avoid a departure stall such as this seems to be.

NEW YORK— Darius McCollum can explain the complicated workings of the New York City transit system with the precision of a veteran conductor. He knows every subway stop, every line, every train. It´s an obsession that has dominated his life. But instead of becoming a transit worker, he´s become a transit impostor. Twenty-nine times, beginning when he was a teenager, he´s been arrested for crimes that include piloting a subway train, stealing a bus and donning uniforms to pose as a conductor and even track worker. "I´ve always loved trains, ever since I can remember.

If you were to list the Americans most critical in facilitating the collapse of the Soviet Union, the name of Bill Clark, or "Judge Clark," might not be on your list -- but it should be. Many of us know that no president was as crucial to that collapse as Ronald Reagan, but few know that no adviser was as crucial to Reagan in that endeavor as Bill Clark. I know this well. I was blessed to become Clark´s biographer, and for about 12 years, dating back to when we first met in August 2001, I spent many hours

WASHINGTON- With the U.S. facing massive overcrowding in its prisons, Attorney General Eric Holder is calling for major changes in the nation´s criminal justice system that would scale back the use of harsh sentences for certain drug-related crimes. In remarks prepared for delivery to the American Bar Association in San Francisco, Holder also favors diverting people convicted of low-level offenses to drug treatment and community service programs and expanding a prison program to allow for the release of some elderly, non-violent offenders. President Barack Obama is teeing off his Martha´s Vineyard vacation with his favorite pastime - golfing. But he had a rough start, as reporters - given a rare glimpse of the president´s golf game - watched him overshoot the first hole by about 15 feet. He then missed his first putt and reacted by leaning back, kicking his knee up and letting out an ´Ooooh.´ His next putt was also a miss and his third finally made it in the hole. Michael Dettlaff´s family drove 100 miles out of their way to visit Crater of Diamonds State Park - and it was worth it. After only 10 minutes digging for the prized gems, 12-year-old Michael unearthed one of the largest diamonds in park history. Michael´s dad was still in the process of renting mining equipment when Michel bounded up to him with the honey-brown diamond the size of a jelly bean. Survivors of the Asiana Airlines flight that crash landed in San Francisco will be each compensated $10,000 the airline said Friday. The amount is said to cover passengers´ medical costs and transportation following the horrific incident last month that killed three middle school students on the tarmac of the San Francisco International Airport. The survivors "need money to go to the hospital or for transportation so we are giving them the $10,000 first," Asiana spokeswoman Lee Hyo Min told Bloomberg News. "Even if they are not hurt or they don´t go to hospital, we will still give them this money."

During his Wednesday appearance on Jay Leno´s "Tonight Show,´ President Obama made three factual gaffes; one of them involved the claim that cities not found along the Gulf of Mexico are. Were Obama a Republican, these gaffes would have led news coverage for the next forty-eight hours. Not only did most of the media ignore or downplay these gaffes; the Associated Press went so far as to cover one of them up. In its coverage Thursday, rather than point out the president´s geographical error, the wire service made it look as though no error was made.

Nobody tells Oprah she can´t afford a handbag. Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest entertainers in the world, thanks to her willdly successful 25-season run on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and her latest media foray with the newly revitalized Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The entertainer earned an estimated $77 million from June 2012 to June 2013 alone, according to Forbes, but she says she still experiences racism because she is African American. Take this latest incident in Switzerland, where "The Butler" star went to attend the nuptials of good friend and singer Tina Turner last month.

The taxpayer-supported Missouri State Fair is getting a lot of negative publicity in social media Sunday following a report of a shameful stunt that occurred Saturday night in Sedalia. Grieving family members insist that soldiers in the elite unit were placed in unnecessary danger by the recklessness of the Obama administration, whose actions they characterized as criminal. “We’re going to dive into this,” said Rep. During a press conference yesterday, President Obama revealed the existence of a sealed indictment in the Benghazi attacks in Libya on September 11, 2012, leaving some experts questioning whether the president broke the law. Federal law states that ´no person may disclose [a sealed] indictment´s existence,´ and that doing so may be ´punished as a contempt of court,´ a charge that carries a minimum sentence of six months prison. The announcement came as a surprise to some insiders, as the existence of a sealed indictment has not been publicly confirmed or denied by law enforcement or
