| We learned this morning that President Obama is impatient with Congress and immigration reform. He is now threatening to do it his way ("decree") and go around Congress: "The White House is circulating a draft immigration bill that would create a new visa for illegal immigrants living in the United States and allow them to become legal permanent residents within eight years, according to a report published online Saturday by USA Today." What´s wrong with this? "Impatient" with Congress? Why didn´t he do something about it when he had 60 votes

The other day I spoke with a guy from a western European nation. The country he´s from doesn´t matter.
He was telling me that he´d recently become a naturalized US citizen by virtue of his marriage to an American woman whom he´d met in his home country.
I asked him how long the entire process took. His reply?
Three (3) years.
We don´t "need" immigration reform. If one is here illegally, then (duh!) yes, it will take longer. Fix your law breaking, then start anew.

Obama does not have the constitutional authority to create any sort of new visa for illegal aliens. That job is specifically assigned to the Congress by the US Constitution.
Any legalization program should only be open to proven longtime illegal aliens who have no criminal records.
The legalization program should grant qualified illegal aliens who are otherwise admissible to the USA a conditional or probationary indefinite immigration status as long as they obey US law, that allows them to stay, to work, and to travel internationally. They should not be allowed to bring foreign family members here, and should not be deemed eligible for other then emergency public assistance, benefits and services.
If those legalized aliens wish sometime in the future to become permanent residents (green card holders) they should first, just like all legal immigrants must do, qualify for an immigrant visa. Once granted permanent residence they should be able to bring certain family members, spouses and minor children here, just like all other permanent residents, and become eligible for government benefits and services that are open to all other permanent residents.
If those aliens wish sometime in the future to become US citizens, they should have to meet all the requirements that all other permanent residents must meet. Once granted US citizenship, they will be able to bring other foreign relatives here, and be able to vote just like all other US citizens.
Former President of Mexico Vicente Fox always used to advise that the millions of Mexicans living and working illegally in the USA just want to be able to live here, to be able to work here with dignity, and be able to travel back and forth to Mexico as they wish.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs.
