| It could have been a career-ending moment. Given the task of delivering the official Republican response to Barack Obama´s state of the union speech last week, rising star Senator Marco Rubio made a catastrophic gaffe. Sweating under the lights in a television studio, the darling of the party right suddenly bent down and reached over awkwardly to grab a bottle of water and take a desperate swig. (Snip) But Rubio has now shown a canny political instinct in handling the crisis, which many observers believe might just have rescued his career and put his hopes of eventually mounting a

Comments: If he can hone this self-deprecating humor, he may enjoy the warmth of an American populace that embraced Reagan for that same self-deprecating humor. And after eight years of being parched by the self-idolizing arrogance of The One, I think America will be thirsting for such a trait.

Like it or not,one of the biggest advantages Obama has is he´s very smooth in public. When the republicans get up there for a response,a sense of hamhandedness comes across.
Obama has also mastered a teleprompter, something else republicans have a problem with. When you compare Jindal´s zombie like response a couple years ago to when he simply speaks off the cuff,it´s night and day.
When you know there´s so much on the line in one of these things, you can´t sleep at night hand wringing over it and the tension builds up over time. It´s no wonder Rubio had cottonmouth.I think public speaking is close to the #1 phobias there are.
When Obama did the 57 states flub, the media blamed it on tireless hours of campaigning caught up to him. When you know the media has your back like that, there´s no need to worry about screwing up in public.
Rubio´s speech probably got a lot of extra attention than his simple response would have,so this could be a blessing we don´t know about.Name ID is crucial when running for office.

Ummmhh. How come the LeftMedia can attack Rubio for drinking from his water bottle, when Obama did almost precisely the same thing last week with no comments, no uproar, no press? Yes, there is a camera shot of Obama chugging from a water bottle--one which the manufacturer´s label is clearly visible, and for whom the free (or maybe not) advertising has been a windfall. Yet...crickets. It is past time to stop responding to these silly media attacks with explanations. Time to simply call them out as Propagandists for Obama, Hypocrites, and Racists (in the case of Rubio). Stock answer should be "Shove it, NBC. or KMA"

Obama and Hillary let four Americans die in Benghazi, he sends drones over America, and he ignores the Constituion. His reputation stays intact. Rubio takes a drink of water and his political career is over. What´s wrong with this country?

With the constant story of the sip of water the MSM did not have to cover the content of Rubio´s speech. So people hear he gave a speech but do not know what was said during the speech. Low information voters will remember Rubio as the one who took a sip of water, but not a person who is for freedom and free enterprise. We have to understand why they do what they do.

The fact that his political career was at risk in the first place is proof of how illegitimate our political system has become, thanks to the power of the mainstream propaganda machine and the craven cowardice of the politicians who participate in it. Besides going John Galt, is there any way to get off this train before it goes over the cliff?

Sorry, I do not see Obama as a smooth speaker, nor as having mastered the teleprompter. The way his head swivels back and forth like a metronome is probably what hypnotizes the lofos into thinking he actually knows what he talking about and his words are golden. To me, he sounds like a not so talented fundamentalist preacher trying to convert. Having heard more than my share of them, this is not meant as as insult to the church goers among us.

Rubio wasn´t sweating, although the MSN keeps claiming he was, as if perspiration were cause for condemnation. There was also a great video going around, showing 10 instances of Rubio taking a drink of water on previous occasions, something he apparently does in all his speeches, which was unmentioned in this article, probably because it dilutes the value of attacking Rubio for the enormous sin of taking a drink of water during his post SOTU speech. They even try to make it a gaffe to have to duck for the water bottle.

How utterly disgusting that the media has sunk to the point where they describe taking a drink of water during a televised speech as a ´career ending moment´ for a bright, articulate Conservative who happens to be human. The childish, snarky shallowness of these people had to be carefully developed. No one is born this way.

Of course Rubio survived this silly water bottle attack...that is because even to lo-info or no-brain voters, Chris Matthews and whole Looney Left embarrassed themselves throwing such a Hissy-Fit over this; because it was clearly obvious (even to an electorate with flatline brain waves) that Obama´s State of the Campaign address had zero substance and Senator Rubio has a Plan Forward!

No, rather it showed that Republicans have a capacity for humour (sic) and warmth that the media has been refusing to report in recent years.

This non-story keeps getting attention because we keep giving it attention.
One suggestion to the Republicans, however, if they feel the need to continue this ´response´ tradition: Lighten up the setting!! My gosh, why does the Republican spokesman have to be seen in such a dark, dreary, dreadful setting? He was in front of a window, OK - but no light through that window. And the ´library´ studio was lit as if it were just a nighlight left on. Very unprofessional looking.
Was that by design?
And if we hear Rubio interviewed by any more urinalists, I wish he´d ask them if they heard ONE WORD HE SAID. If so, did they UNDERSTAND it?

It is a "wag the dog" attempt to keep his words from being absorbed. The left, the MSM are so predictable that no one with any sense believes a word they speak or write.. Keep in mind...there apparently are millions among us so lacking in information and sense that we find ourselves in this mess as they believe everything they are told. Refreshing to see a young man, under hot lights reach for a bottle of water to hydrate his vocal chords. I wonder do the elite refresh before or after with their rum and coke, martini, etc....would rather see my elected officials reach for a bottle of water than alchohol any day. Snap out of it America...time is short.

Here´s the real bottom line: the hard left is attacking him for not having choreographed his presentation better. Fauxbama is their norm--all glitz and no content (or lies). Taking a drink of water means nothing. Everyone does that, but he had to reach down and pick the bottle up, not have a lackey do it for him. Meanwhile, Fauxbama is carried in a golden rickshaw to his next golf lesson: ah, that´s presidential. The hard left doesn´t want a human being as POTUS; they want a phoney-baloney demigod/demagogue.

It wasn´t the fat a drink of water was taken, but seeing clips, it was awkward in his actions to get the drink. He tried to stay in the camera center. He would have been received better had he said "pardon me" or "excuse me, please" and then reach for the bottle without preening to the camera. It´s Rubio, pushing McCain and Graham´s immigration policy which will be his undoing. Here again----only 8, behind closed doors trying to make policy instead of the entire body.

More than once , in fact 3 or 4 times that we know about...Obama had flithy flies land on his lips and face . He even caught one in the 2009 CNBC interview. Which amazed and delighted the media . They could be heard clapping and cheering in the background. It´s normal to drink water. It´s abnormal for a man to constantly attract flies. And to catch them with his bare hands. Rubio´s speech was very good , he´s an articulate and charismatic conservative. The media and the left would have found something else to whine about. As others have noted-the Republicans need professional help with staging and optics. Obama smokes and drinks-good. Rubio drinks water-bad.

Mindful of the repeated rounds of cuts the military has already endured, Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, recently delivered a grim warning: "If you want [the military] to be doing what it´s doing today, then we can´t give you another dollar." His worries reflect reductions that started in 2009 and have reached crippling levels, even in President Obama´s proposals to avert sequestration. I take the general at his word, but I am concerned that the president does not. Sequester hurts national security, not just because 50% of the cuts fall on the military´s 18% share of the overall

A new global campaign to persuade nations to ban "killer robots" before they reach the production stage is to be launched in the UK by a group of academics, pressure groups and Nobel peace prize laureates. Robot warfare and autonomous weapons, the next step from unmanned drones, are already being worked on by scientists and will be available within the decade, said Dr Noel Sharkey, a leading robotics and artificial intelligence expert and professor at Sheffield University. He believes that development of the weapons is taking place in an effectively unregulated environment, with little attention being paid to moral implications and

Montreal -- Quebec´s language minister said Saturday that her office will "review its process" after a series of embarrassing language inspections at Montreal businesses caught international attention. Diane de Courcy acknowledged that 13 countries reported on the story about an inspector with Quebec´s language office, the OQLF, who told a Montreal restaurant owner that the menu was too Italian because it didn´t contain the French translation for the word "pasta." After heavy public criticism and embarrassing international attention, the OQLF relented and admitted its inspector showed "an excess of zeal." "We will from now on apply moderation, but also judgement,"

Houston –A 21-year-old man sprang into action to protect his family Thursday night when three suspects barged into their northwest Harris County home. The young man was home with his mother and father in the 3900 block of Brook Garden when the armed men forced their way into the house around 8 p.m., according to Harris County Sheriff’s deputies. (snip) After the father was down, the suspects went after the mother. That is when the son ran and got his dad’s gun. He opened fire and hit one of the suspects, who died in the back bedroom.

Republicans have a problem with young people 18-29. Democrats have a problem with seniors over 65. The story taken from this dichotomy is popular and simple enough: Republicans are the party of crusty old folks who are going to die, and Democrats are the party of the youth, who will lead a continued resurgence into office. I´m not so sure about this story; (snip) Indeed, if you came of age during the Franklin D Roosevelt administration, you are more Democratic than the nation as a whole. If you could first vote during the administrations of Ronald Reagan or George HW Bush,

Middle class in the U.S. can mean something very different depending on where you call your home state. Census bureau numbers show a shocking disparity in the definition of ´middle income´ - with Maryland boasting an average of $67,469 and Mississippi posting an appallingly low $39,078, a difference of $28,391. Debate over the definition of middle class comes after President Obama´s State of the Union address this week. He detailed his plan to get the middle class back on track, mentioning the term a total of 8 times in his speech on Tuesday. ´It is our generation´s task, then, to

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. (Snip) Last month, the Nielsen Co. started labeling people in this group "Zero TV" households, because they fall outside the traditional definition of a TV home. There are 5 million of these residences in the U.S., up from

North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Chelsea Clinton has raised her profile in the last few days, which sparked the inevitable question about the former first daughter´s future: Will she ever be like Mom and Dad and run for office? Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
