| ARLINGTON, Va.— One of the D.C. area’s iconic burger joints is no more. Ray’s Hell-Burger, where the likes of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the Russian president have gone for a juicy burger, has been shut down after failing to pay its rent. Arlington County General District Court on Feb. 8 served an eviction notice to the restaurant, located in the Colonial Village Shopping Center along Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, for unpaid rent and ordered owner Michael Landrum to pay more than $39,000 in overdue rent and damages.

The owner probably couldn´t pay his rent and other bills because not enough people can afford to go out and eat. Like a lot of small businesses today, too many rising costs (higher minimum wages, skyrocketing energy and food prices, etc.), excessive regulations, high taxes, new healthcare rules, etc. and of course, less patrons who can afford higher prices. Ain´t leftism grand??

I´ve seen gov data on the drop in gas sales (eia website. Down by half over 4 years) but have no source for data on decline in restaurant patronage. Makes sense with the median household income dropping by 7.5% and healthcare costs mounting.

Mitch McConnell and some consultants disparaging Ashley Judd is not news. It´s the sausage being made. We´ve got full background here, but the toplines are this: Corn got hold of a conversation apparently recorded during a presentation by consultants to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell´s reelection campaign. The consultants were opposition researchers, hired by the campaign to ferret out damaging information about actress Ashley Judd, who at one point considered running against McConnell.

A homeless man, oblivious to President Obama’s passing motorcade, took BB gun practice in the nearby woods and refused to drop his weapon when confronted by Connecticut cops, officials said today.
