Budget-busting burgers: Beef,
chicken supply could be casualties
of Congress, Obama sequester fight

Washington Times, by By Seth McLaughlin & Stephen Dinan

Original Article

If the spending sequesters happen, get ready for the great beef shortage of 2013. The Obama administration said Thursday that the across-the-board cuts would mean furloughs for food safety inspectors, and if those inspectors aren’t on the job, meat-processing plants can’t open. That means 2 billion pounds of beef and pork and potentially more than 3 billion pounds of poultry will never make it to the market, causing shortages and price spikes across the economy. “This is going to adversely affect every consumer in America,” said Sen. Mark L. Pryor, Arkansas Democrat.

Comments:
This is just shocking. It is horrific how much those in Washington and their appalling behavior impact us so negatively. I never would have dreamed the sequester fight would involve causing food prices to rise.

This is a failure to prioritize and shows a willingness on the part of this administration to attack the necesarry functions of the country, and therefore to attack America and Americans, in order to force it´s own personal will upon us. This is against our Constitution and IMHO grounds for arrest and impeachment.

Unexpectedly the Obama administration holds America hostage. Just imagine that we didn´t have these government inpectors. The food would be just as healthy and cheaper. Food inspection laws have put local beef suppliers out of business across the country and raised the cost. Have you heard of anyone getting sick from uninspected deer or quail?

Watch the Republicans fold like cheap suitcases.

I agree #2. This proves the insidiousness of govn infiltrating every aspect of our lives. On a moments notice, the govn can pull a switch and cut off access to our food, energy or health care supplies. Were our guns to be taken, a civilian police force could easily command control of the populace.

See where this is leading??

For those of you in town, get together with a few friends , buy a steer, have it processed and split it up. There is no inspection for private sales.

We have sold all of our spare steers for this year and will be raising more next year. More people are buying private because they know where it came from, how it´s fed, etc. Same with my lamb, chicken, turkeys and eggs.

You had to know he was coming for the food supply, control the food, control the masses. Get yourselves prepared and quick.

The idea that the government COULD NOT perform vital functions if expenditures were cut by 10% for example is preposterous.

Now, Obama and his crew will no doubt say that we´ll have dirty air, diry water, unclean food, no national parks, sky-high food prices, etc., etc. Just a tactic on their part.

Something is veryyyy wrong with DC if they can´t live with a 10% cut. After all they took more $$$ in January from our paychecks, we spend more for gas, more for health care..yet they are saying the military will go bust without 10%...oh please... I suggest they eliminate the rides on air force one & keep congress in DC without 100000 yearly vacations ...

All of this nonsense coming out daily is a bunch of Barbra Streisand. Even General Odeino got in the act yesterday for the military. Each departments need to set priorities for spending. In the military the actual active soldiers, sailors etc come first along with their training and equipment. Start at the Pentagon and have everyone count off. Say good- bye to every third person or every second person. Do the same with the higher-ups at each installation. There is much waste and redundance in the military. There is no reason to threaten our security and I despise those who are part of Obama´s dog and pony show. Don´t fall for their scare tactics. When we have NO MONEY then things will get very scary.

Fine. If there are no inspectors to inspect the meat, then there will be no inspectors to report that meat shipments continue without them. Meat packers can just self-inspect, which they do now to ensure compliance.
I seriously doubt the inspectors contribute much anyway--certainly not a full workday.

Government managers can move money around to protect vital parts of government functions. Take the money that´s needed from the corrupt energy dept.

Every time it snows in DC,they tell non essential workers to stay home. Well make these non essentials bear the brunt of the sequester.

England´s FDA did a great job on stopping horse meat from getting the in food supply in huge quantities didn´t they? I´ll bet most USDA inspectors look the other way when a downed cow is crawling it´s way to the slaughter line.

The channel took the frequent cable-show guest and handed him his own program, “Ronan Farrow Daily,” which premiered in late February. The theory was that Farrow, a Rhodes scholar who graduated college when he was 15 and went on to score degrees from Yale and Oxford, would bring his 245,000 Twitter followers with him to television

YOKOHAMA, Japan — Climate change is already having sweeping effects on every continent and throughout the world’s oceans, scientists reported Monday, and they warned that the problem is likely to grow substantially worse unless greenhouse emissions are brought under control. The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations group that periodically summarizes climate science, concluded that ice caps are melting, sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, water supplies are coming under stress, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying, coral reefs are dying, and fish and many other creatures are migrating toward the poles or

A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. The March 26 decision by the NLRB´s Chicago regional director, Peter Sung Ohr, held that scholarship football players are "employees" for purposes of federal labor law. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees. While Ohr´s decision is hardly the final word on this issue, it does accelerate the legal and political battle against the NCAA and its century-old amateurism rules. Is Football Academic? Washington — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday finalized long-delayed rules that will require automakers to install back-up cameras in all vehicles by May 2018. The new rules set rear visibility standards that automakers will initially be able to meet only by installing cameras. At the same time, major automakers said Monday they are petitioning the Obama administration to let them end the use of side view mirrors if they install cameras that could perform the same task — a move that could improve fuel efficiency. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, criticized last year by a Vatican official for her support of abortion, received a rosary Tuesday from President Obama that was blessed by Pope Francis. Mrs. Pelosi told reporters of the president’s gift after having lunch with Mr. Obama at the White House. The president met with the pope last week at the Vatican. “I was happy to receive a rosary blessed by Pope Francis,” she said. “It means a great deal to me.” Last year, a Vatican official in Rome said that Mrs. Pelosi should be denied communion. “This is a person who obstinately,

President Obama’s Department of Homeland Security caught then released 68,000 aliens who had previously been convicted of a crime, a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies shows. The report, provided to Breitbart News ahead of its late Sunday evening release, reviews internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) metrics to conclude that the Obama administration released 35 percent—or 68,000—convicted criminal aliens back into the U.S. general population when they could have been deported. A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. In a Tuesday appearance on HuffPost Live to discuss outreach to African American communities,

Drinking Earl Grey tea could help guard against heart disease, it has emerged, after a study found that bergamot extract--a key ingredient in the hot drink--is just as effective as statins at controlling cholesterol. Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in

Spanish historians say they have discovered what Monty Python could not – the Holy Grail, the legendary cup Jesus supposedly drank from at the Last Supper. The Spaniards – Margarita Torres and José Ortega del Río – believe the 2,000-year-old vessel is in a church in León in northern Spain. The pair spent three years studying the history of the chalice and last week published a book, “The Kings of the Grail,” making their case. The onyx chalice, they explained, was concealed within another antique vessel known as the Chalice of Doña Urruca, which is located in León’s basilica of
