Mali faces long-term threat,

Washington Times, by Guy Taylor

French forces quickly dislodged terrorist enclaves from the West African nation of Mali during the past month, but a high-ranking State Department official told Congress on Thursday that the threat is long-term and that containing this branch of al Qaeda is a challenge that covers the whole region. (Snip) Compounding the situation is the fact that the group has gotten its hands on weaponry that U.S. allies originally channeled to nearby Libya, to aid groups that were fighting for the ouster of former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi two years ago. After Gadhafi’s fall, the weapons “moved in all

Comments:
Does the murder of Ambassador Stevens [and three men] in Benghazi begin to make a little more sense now? And, the White House claims no more to be said of their deaths?

There must have been some reason that Mitt Romney specifically mentioned Mali in the third debate and the LSM, along with White House ignored. Now, see where we are at.

Obama´s support for the stupid arab spring is producing a veritable compound interest of a failed theory. This is the biggest problem with leftists and their inability to figure out dynamic reaction. We gave arms to Libyan rebels without knowing a damn this about them and now several countries have been destabilized in a part of the world who could shut every economy down if there´s a big interruption in oil supply.

Obama´s a lot more focused on killing right wing Americans than any radical Islamist group. Whatever he´s doing over there is nothing but looking busy.

What the French did was essentially scattering cockroaches to come back another day.

Well, Barry & the Hildebeast arming Libya turned out swell, didn´t it? Is this another one of their vaulted accomplishments? The Hildebeast certainly is the best SoS ever in her drive to arm AlQuida factions.

Romey was sneered at by the president, and the media, for mentioning Mali.
But that doesn´t matter, because Romney put his dog on the car top, and Rubio drank water.

With just more than one week to go before convicted killer Christopher Sepulvado is scheduled to die by lethal injection, Louisiana will alter its execution protocol and swap out a one-drug recipe for the same two-drug cocktail used in Ohio executions. In an email statement sent late Monday (Jan. 27), the Louisiana Department of Corrections confirmed it would be changing its execution protocol to allow for the "two-drug protocol" used in Ohio. Previously, the state planned to use just one drug, the barbiturate pentobarbital, to carry out Sepulvado´s Feb. 5 execution. But officials were unable to secure the amount needed to administer a lethal

Federal prosecutors are trying to thwart the easy access that predatory lenders and dubious online merchants have to Americans’ bank accounts by going after banks that fail to meet their obligations as gatekeepers to the United States financial system. The Justice Department is weighing civil and criminal actions against dozens of banks, sending out subpoenas to more than 50 payment processors and the banks that do business with them, according to government officials. In the new initiative, called “Operation Choke Point,” the agency is scrutinizing banks both big and small over whether they, in exchange for handsome fees, enable businesses

Washington - The risk that President Obama may be forced to pull all American troops out of Afghanistan by the end of the year has set off concerns inside the American intelligence agencies that they could lose their air bases used for drone strikes against Al Qaeda in Pakistan and for responding to a nuclear crisis in the region. (Snip) If Mr. Obama ultimately withdrew all American troops from Afghanistan, the C.I.A.’s drone bases in the country would have to be closed, according to administration officials, because it could no longer be protected. Cairo - Islamist militants shot down an Egyptian military helicopter in the Sinai Peninsula with a surface-to-air missile over the weekend, raising new alarms about the terrorist insurgency that developed there in response to the military takeover last summer. The attack — described by witnesses, documented in a video released by the militants, and confirmed by three people briefed on the Egyptian government’s investigation — validated longstanding fears that such weapons would spill into Egypt and beyond after the Libyan civil war tore open Col. Tunis - Tunisia´s national assembly approved the country´s new constitution on Sunday in one of the last steps to establishing full democracy three years after the uprising that toppled autocrat Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali. Just before the constitution vote, Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa appointed a caretaker cabinet as part of a deal to end a crisis between Tunisia´s Islamist party and its secular opposition until new elections this year. Tunisia´s new constitution and progress contrasts sharply with messy transitions in Libya, Egypt and Yemen which are still caught up in turmoil after ousting their own long-standing leaders in 2011 revolts and

When President Obama delivers his State of the Union address Tuesday night, many federal employees will be listening to what the boss-in-chief has to say about them. They shouldn’t get their hopes up too high. Obama has given scant attention to federal employees in his previous State of the Union speeches. Don’t expect this year to be different. One mention was in 2011, when he said: “We’ve frozen the salaries of hard-working federal employees for the next two years.” Two years became three. Of course, everyone with a just cause or a pet project wants a mention in the State of the Union. It is a high-profile address

WASHINGTON — President Obama plans to sign an executive order requiring that janitors, construction workers and others working for federal contractors be paid at least $10.10 an hour, using his own power to enact a more limited version of a policy that he has yet to push through Congress. The order, which Mr. Obama will highlight in his annual State of the Union address on Tuesday night, is meant to underscore an increasing willingness by the president to bypass Congress if lawmakers continue to resist his agenda, aides said. After a year in which most of his legislative priorities went nowhere,

Of all the troubling aspects of the Obama presidency, none is more dangerous than the president´s persistent pattern of lawlessness, his willingness to disregard the written law and instead enforce his own policies via executive fiat. On Monday, Mr. Obama acted unilaterally to raise the minimum wage paid by federal contracts, the first of many executive actions the White House promised would be a theme of his State of the Union address Tuesday night. The president´s taste for unilateral action to circumvent Congress should concern every citizen, regardless of party or ideology. “Repealing and replacing” Obamacare with market-oriented reforms has been the Republican mantra for years now. If you’re a long-time follower of this space, you know that we’re skeptical that Obamacare will ever be repealed, GOP slogans to the contrary. Today, however, a trio of experienced Senate Republicans—Tom Coburn (Okla.), Richard Burr (N.C.), and Orrin Hatch (Utah)—have put forth the most thoughtful and constructive plan yet developed to repeal and replace Obamacare. The plan seeks to ensure that as many Americans have health coverage as Obamacare does. It’s a proposal grounded in the real-world tradeoffs that all serious reformers must make.

President Barack Obama delivered a State of the Union Address on Tuesday that was important less for what he said than for what it says about him. The speech was long, more than an hour. At times it was defiant, at others it felt almost conciliatory. But mostly the speech was forgettable, disposable – a long list of modest policy proposals that will not be remembered for much longer than their echo in the House chamber. On domestic policy, we knew what to expect. The stars of last year’s speech – immigration and gun control – were mere afterthoughts this year,

Former Vice President Al Gore raised eyebrows last week when he suggested that “fertility management” was the key to fighting global warming and promoting economic development in poor countries. Gore’s comments drew criticism from free-marketeers who said his remarks amount to “eco-imperialism.” “Gore’s agenda for saving the world from global warming has always included population control,” Myron Ebell, director of global warming and international environmental policy at the free-market Competitive Enterprise Institute, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Advocating population control specifically for Africa is just another form of imperialism. Deep within the Earth, a fierce molten core is generating a magnetic field capable of defending our planet against devastating solar winds. The protective field extends thousands of miles into space and its magnetism affects everything from global communication to animal migration and weather patterns. But this magnetic field, so important to life on Earth, has weakened by 15 per cent over the last 200 years. And this, scientists claim, could be a sign that the Earth’s poles are about to flip. Experts believe we´re currently overdue a flip, but they´re unsure when this could occur. If a switch happens, we would be exposed
