School Bans Valentine’s
Day Cards, Candy

Fox News, by Todd Starnes

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 2/14/2013 11:44:54 AM

Boys and girls at a Massachusetts elementary school have been banned from bringing Valentine’s Day candy or cards over cultural equality issues and federal guidelines regulating candy. (Snip) Parents of students at Salemwood Elementary School in Malden, Mass, received a letter informing them of the policy – that impacts not just Valentine’s Day – but all holidays. “We have many different nationalities, cultures and languages spoken,” Principal Carol Keenan told Fox News. “Because of that we don’t honor specific holidays.” Keenan said she did not want some students feeling left out.

Comments:
Oh puhleeze! The political correctness that now permeates our society is outrageous and ridiculous. We certainly wouldn´t want a holiday in the USA to interfere with cultural and language equality would we? s/o Good. Grief.

We have multiple cultures represented in my son´s 2nd grade class and they were all so excited this morning about giving out their valentines to their classmates.

Adults can be so stupid.

If you read between the lines, it is because Valentine´s Day celebrations are banned in most islamic countries, notably Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Syria.

Why not ban other cultures instead. People who come here, many illegally, not only get benefits they shouldn´t be entitled to but also get our traditions trashed.

Adults get "upset" and the kids don´t even know what you are talking about. "Left out"? No one would be left out. They act like they would be herded into the gym and turn the lights out. All students would be having a party. They would get cards and goodies and probably make a small craft. Valentine´s Day is the perfect holiday to chase the mid winter blues away for a while. I have on a candy red sweater and a striped red and pink top. We gave candy to our student helpers and I have had many students tell me Happy VaLentine´s Day. Many of those students were Burmese and two were from India. They were not feeling left out. I can´t wait until St. Patrick´s Day to see what the nut jobs come up with for that holiday.

Times certainly have changes.

In 1968 I was in forth grade. Everyone brought in treats for the last class before Christmas. That would be the day after the night time school Christmas presentations for the parents, which included songs about baby Jesus.

For Valentines day we brought valentines for who we LIKED. I usually gave one to every person, unless they were a real jerk. Some kids would put a chocolate in with theirs, which was really nice to get.

Twice a year, Mrs. Carl, a wonderful fourth grade teacher, would have a picnic IN HER BACKYARD, about two blocks from the school. We all loved going to her shady tree back yard and having a picnic, which she and a class aid worked hard to put on. Then we went back to school.

No one got sick. No one had issues. It was a nice group thing that she put together to show that she loved her kids. She paid for it all out of pocket.

Hardly anything above is allowed now, but it sure made for nice memories, and the kids when back to school charged up and ready for more learning.

But never mind. The only thing schools seem to tolerate now is the intolerant.

A culture that abandons its own traditions and practices lest newcomers from other cultures feel left out is committing a form of cultural suicide. This is taking hospitality and sensitivity to a self-destructive extreme. It is a manifestation of cultural decline.

Do you enjoy specific brands of breakfast cereals? Perhaps all breakfast cereals should be removed.

#7, you almost jumped the gun on my proposal...

All this would be "Okay" (PC) if it were really "multicultural"...

So put the Valentine´s candy into pinatas and let the kiddies assault and beat the
minority ethnic icon (pinata) to obtain the goodies.

Kids need the training and exposure regarding assaults and grabbing stuff
(aka stealing)... this is therefore very educational and instructive regarding
other cultures we must come to appreciate... all part of the socialization process public schools must perform. See?

I am remembering the ´dark´ planet (but I can´t remember its name) in A Wrinkle In Time, where all the children were playing in the driveways of their all alike houses, bouncing balls or skipping rope, all on the same beat. And the mothers opened the doors of the houses all at the same time and the children all ran into their houses and the doors closed at the same time. All except one. And he was appropriately punished.

For what it´s worth, the population of Malden is:
White = 62.94
African-American = 9.67
American Indian/Alaskan = 0.05
Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Viet, Cambodian) = 19.02
Hawaiian/Pacific = 0.09
Hispanic = 6.30
Other = 8.30

Years ago, it was predominantly Italian-American. I don´t think it´s creeping sharia so much as creeping stupidity.

Like No. 8, I remember the grade school Valentine´s party & usually our "room mother" would bring homemade cupcakes or cookies. I think all of the moms & teachers were in agreement that each kid had to give a Valentine to everyone so that nobody was left out of the fun. Later on, my Dad told me a funny story why this was so - it seems that he was such a holy terror in school, that the only Valentine he got was from the teacher! I hate how PC is ruining even these simple, little pleasures for the kids!

Just so you have the background on Malden. Two of the Trade Center planes were flown by terrorists living in Malden. They frequented Gold´s Gym there. The day the towers came down children were dancing in the classroom aisles in my teacher friend´s classroom. They told her they knew about it prior. I bet they gave out candy to their neighbors then as is their custom. Shame on Malden. They have bowed to terrorists and their kids will reap what the school system has sown. My friend retired soon after and teaches out in the sticks now when she feels like it. PC will bring down this country.

I´ve been an Ldotter for a long time, so I hate to contradict, but Valentine´s day is based upon ancient PAGAN rituals that promote atheism and sexual promiscuity.
My children are not allowed to participate in this event. We spend this in prayer and quiet contemplation.

Saint Valentine was a Christian Martyr who died on February 14.

Whatever the pagans were doing that day doesn´t matter.

Why let non-believers dictate what days the Church decides to celebrate. If that is the case there can be no celebrations since every day of the week and month of the year is named after a pagan deity or reference.

#28, that is ghastly (about the students dancing in the aisles on 9-11), but it also happened in some communities in New York and New Jersey, too, so I believe it.

A local school district here doesn´t allow the kids to celebrate ST. Valentine´s Day, because it is a religious holiday. Our school district´s calendar is so devoid of holiday references as to be useless for use as a general calendar.

If this had actually occurred in Malden, I´d have known about it. Think for a minute. #39, somebody has been giving you bad information. Saint Valentine is a widely recognized third century Roman saint commemorated on February 14. Also, pagans do not promote atheism. They believe in gods--not "without god". Additionally, Satan is a Christian symbol--not pagan, not Jewish, not Hindu, not any other religion. Pagans do not believe in Satan or "satanic rituals". Finally, not all pagan religions believe in sexual promiscuity. There are many different pagan beliefs. Some are very close to Christianity.

A Muslim family from Long Island slapped the owners of the Empire State Building Tuesday with a $5 million lawsuit that claims that Islamic prayer is not being accommodated on the observation deck of the Emprie State Building. Liberals can rationalize away anything in the name of discrimination against minorities. Even national sovereignty. The Corruption Chronicles blog of Judicial Watch reports: A Homeland Security initiative to put fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border could discriminate against minorities, according to an Obama-appointed federal judge who’s ruled that the congressionally-approved project may have a “disparate impact on lower-income minority communities.” This of course means that protecting the porous—and increasingly violent—southern border is politically incorrect. At least that’s what the public college professor at the center of the case is working to prove and this month she got help from a sympathetic federal judge.

President Obama pushed back on criticism of his recent appearance with comedian Zach Galifianakis to promote the Affordable Care Act, noting that President Lincoln "loved telling the occasional bawdy joke." The president´s remarks, during an interview with ESPN Radio´s Colin Cowherd that aired Thursday, were an indirect jab at Fox News host Bill O´Reilly, who argued during a segment of his show earlier this month that the 16th president would never have agreed to such an appearance. "First of all, if you read back on Lincoln, he loved telling the occasional bawdy joke and being out among regular folks," Obama

Budget cuts at the Coast Guard are coming at an unfortunate time. As the service, like other branches of the military, makes do with less, drug smugglers are increasingly turning to the high seas -- and challenging the Coast Guard´s already strained resources. Officials tell Fox News that drug smugglers are moving some of their operations away from the U.S.-Mexico land border and out into the ocean where it´s easier to avoid law enforcement. And for U.S. patrollers, that theater is becoming harder and harder to defend. "As the Department of Homeland Security became more effective at stopping smuggling across

The House Ethics Committee is looking into whether Rep. Luis Gutiérrez´s (D-Ill.) violated House rules. The Ethics Committee did not specify the matter on Thursday, but USA Today has reported Gutiérrez continued to employ his former chief of staff Doug Scofield — now an Illinois lobbyist — as a paid contractor since 2003. Scofield had been paid more than $500,000, the newspaper reported, to train staff and write press releases, among other things. Gutiérrez released a statement shortly after the committee made its announcement, saying the referral dealt with a "long-standing contract." The matter was referred to the community by the independent

With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stalled by the “Bridgegate” affair, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has become the establishment´s candidate and top pick to win the 2016 GOP presidential nomination, according to a new analysis of the race. “We now consider Bush the leader of the field if he decides to run,” said the influential “Crystal Ball” from the University of Virginia´s Center for Politics. “In recent months, we’ve noticed an unmistakable and widespread desire among some of the Republicans we talk to, particularly ones who would be classified as members of the establishment on and off Capitol Hill, for a third Bush nominee in less than three decades.

(Video) The Obama ladies are in the house — the house of China, that is. First lady Michelle Obama, her two daughters, Malia and Sasha, and her mother touched down Thursday in China for what’s being touted as a weeklong feel-good tourist event, amid increasing murmurs back home about U.S. taxpayers having to foot the bill. Mrs. Obama is supposed to use her visit for soft diplomacy only, and shy from the more controversial topics that plague U.S.-China relations, namely human rights and economics. No reporters accompanied the family on the trip. “The nature of her visit is really quite

“Obamacare” as shorthand for the Affordcable Care Act was first used mostly by critics of the law, but now everyone’s using the moniker and President Obama has long since embraced it. But apparently no one told Nancy Pelosi, because she’s still ticked off at how much people talk about “Obamacare” instead of the “Affordable Care Act.” In response to a reporter asking a question about Obamacare being a political winner or loser, Pelosi said, “By the way, it’s called the Affordable Care Act. It’s called the Affordable Care Act. I know you didn’t intend any compliment or derogatory––it’s called the

Secretary of State John Kerry called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday morning to protest insults the Israeli defense minister directed at the Obama administration this week, the State Department said. In a speech at Tel Aviv University on Monday, Moshe Ya’alon criticized President Obama for having a weak foreign policy, and said Israel could no longer rely on the United States to lead nuclear negotiations with Iran. “Secretary Kerry spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu this morning. And he protested to him his concerns about these comments,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Wednesday. The U.S., Psaki reaffirmed, maintains an “unshakable

President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he thinks Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick “would make a great president or vice president.” Obama and Patrick, both Democrats, are friends and close political allies. The two men have campaigned for each other, with Patrick acting as a surrogate for Obama nationally during the 2012 presidential race. Patrick has said clearly that he intends to return to the private sector when his second term as governor is up at the end of the year and will not run for president in 2016. But he has not ruled out a run for office in the

First Lady Michelle Obama will be accompanied by her children and her mother on her trip to China, which begins today. But she won´t be accompanied by the press. "Michelle Obama’s trip to China starting on Wednesday will be nonpolitical, the White House says, a ´people-to-people exchange´ emphasizing the importance that both nations place on education. As if to underscore the point, no reporters are traveling with the first lady, and she does not plan to give interviews while there," reports the New York Times. The White House is defending the first lady bringing her family along for the ride by saying

Ellen DeGeneres was a completely slavish toady to President Obama as he appeared on her show to sell Obamacare -- not to young people, but to mothers. The president made his pitch to "especially all the moms out there who may have young people – 26, 27, do not have health insurance, but they think they’re invincible and nothing’s ever going to happen to ‘em – what we’ve said is you never know what life is going to throw at ya."

Michelle Obama arrived in China on Thursday for a weeklong visit that will steer clear of politics and instead focusing on education and community. [Snip] On Friday, she is to spend the day with Peng Liyuan, the wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, something which diplomats hope will build bridges between the two countries. ´I think this is a very good opportunity to improve the China-U.S. relations, as the first lady can represent the soft side of diplomacy,´ said Wang Dong, a political scientist at Peking University´s School of International Studies. ´Michelle Obama herself has been accomplished in areas such as

College basketball can wait. Did you know that March is actually National Nutrition Month? Today, First Lady Michelle Obama urged Americans via her "Let´s Move!" initiative to challenge their family members to eat one new fruit or vegetable per week in March to faithfully observe the occasion. "March is National Nutrition Month and you can celebrate by challenging your family to try a new fruit or vegetable each week," First Lady Michelle Obama said in an e-mail to supporters today. Never mind that there were less than two "each weeks" left in National Nutrition Month when the e-mail challenge was

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. Warm temperatures, colorful wildflowers. What´s not to like, about early signs of spring? Climate scientists at NASA say these early signs could be tied to global warming, and the consequences are troubling. 9NEWS talked to NASA scientist Dr. Compton Tucker at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. He said that on average, the last frost of the year is happening about five days earlier than it did just five decades ago. Tucker said his conclusions are drawn from a fleet of Earth-observing satellites that have been monitoring our planet for more than 40 years. That satellite data combined with
