Poor man had no choice: Sen. Marco Rubio had to be deceptive when describing his immigration plans last night–otherwise he’d have little chance of making the sale. Here’s what Rubio said: We need a responsible, permanent solution to the problem of those who are here illegally. But first, we must follow through on the broken promises of the past to secure our borders and enforce our laws. This makes it sound as if Rubio would take action to “secure our borders and enforce our laws” before offering to legalize “those who are here illegally.”
Comments: I´m so sorry to see this about Rubio. I guess it was too much to ask for in thinking he would be any different than a typical politician in Washington. He is one of the most articulate Republicans I have seen, but his coziness with the deceitful, corrupt Democrats will take us down a road this country can´t survive.
Not surprised! He thinks this will elevate him to acquiring the illegals votes--maybe not so much for him on top of the ticket but for Jeb B. to top a ticket with him as VP.
Reading what some of his constituents have said (most certain opposition research has already been done on him and this is why the media and Dems are reacting to him--building up his profile) makes one easily see the "RINO" strain showing on his backside. He has had financial problems---back when Speaker of the House in FL of using issued credit cards (may have reimbursed for charges), personal financial problems among other things. He would fit the Rove model quite well!
Alicia, Marco, or Geraldo .. what´s with some Hispanics (wither Puerto Rican, Cuban, Mexican or other family backgrounds) who place their ethnic concerns over those of the nation? Marco and Alicia are good people, but I reserve the right and will exercise my right to disagree with them on this subject and to point out their obvious conflict of interest.
We have a proper immigration path. If it needs fixing - fix it. If the borders need securing - secure them. This is especially true for a nation that is (or was) an island of liberty in a sea of 7-billion or so, most of whom are "subjects".
"A nation without borders is not a nation" - Ronald Reagan
And he continues to carry the lie that it is an immigration and border busting problem. It´s an illegal employment problem. Dry up the illegal employment, you dry up the illegal immigration problem. The only solution is to issue work grant cards- 30 days, you get in, as a registered illegal worker, find an employer to sign the card, you get to stay and pay taxes on your earnings like everyone else, and get workmens comp protections like everyone else. I have no problems with that. I´d even allow them to take Driver´s license testing and get a DL- with "Foreign Worker" stamped across it, so they can be on the highway legally and get insurance.
But, the sad fact is, employers love these little low paid slaves from Mexico. The working peasant class is a beautiful thing when most Americans would rather sit at home and collect unemployment wages.
Oh brother. here we go. Calling Alicia and Rubio down for putting their ethnic background before country is an idiotic comment. If you paid attention to what they are saying you´d know that they are trying to save America and return it to what it was before. They are born and bred Americans who may look different than you but are just as patriotic as you think you are. They both want border security First and are not at all like Geraldo.
There are three levels of amnesty that the Republicans could cave on to allow the liberal Democrats to loudly claim that they passed comprehensive immigration reform.
The Republicans could go along with giving longtime illegal aliens an indefinite conditional or probationary immigration status that would allow them to stay, work, and to travel internationally. Once in that status the aliens would have to qualify for an immigrant visa, as all legal immigrants must do, to be granted Permanent resident status. That´s what going to the back of the line should mean.
The Republicans could go along with immediately granting most illegal aliens permanent resident (green card) status. They could then bring their close foreign family members to the USA and in five years apply for US citizenship.
Or the Republicans could just go along to get along with the liberal Democrats and grant most illegal aliens US citizenship and US voting rights.
The Republicans should go with the conditional or probationary immigration status option, and make sure that the only way that those legalized aliens can become permanent residents is that they first qualify for an immigrant visa. That would stop most legalized aliens from being granted US voting rights all at the same time.
If the Republicans did that, most illegal aliens being given conditional or probationary immigration status would be happy as they could stay here and work legally. However the Democrats would not be happy, as they are looking forward to a mass of 10 million or so new Democrat voters coming on line quickly as the result of 11-20 million illegal aliens being granted US voting rights.
What this article describes is the truth about Rubio, the gang of 8, amnesty... ALL of it.
The amnesty would immediately take effect, save for obfuscation through semantics, and if you are naive enough to think that Rubio himself is naive, and being led against his will by the rest of the gang of 8, you need to wise up and think.
The ones here, pushing, pushing, pushing for amnesty, (their name-calling and attempts at bullying and isolating what has OBVIOUSLY become the majority notwithstanding), have a very difficult, no, IMPOSSIBLE time of pulling enlightened voters back under their lying party´s umbrella, and are beside themselves with ire, while they try to convince right-minded people that they are wrong.
Attempting to present Rubio´s, and therefore, the gang of 8´s amnesty (remember who the gang of 8 is), as a plan that will require securing the borders PRIOR to amnesty being granted, are lying through their teeth, and they know it.
Now they think they have a new weapon to use against the right-minded among us - Alicia Colon´s article today.
Sorry guys, but I believe we´ve already shot down that foolishness.
#3, the constitution bars a veep pick from the same state as the prez nominee. Jebster and Rubio are both from Florida.
Remember how Cheney went back to Wyoming and re-established his legal residency there in order to be Dubya´s veep pick? That´s because as an oil exec Cheney was living in Texas. He and Dubya could not be officially from the same state. Recall that Cheney started out as a Wyoming congressman, so his move back was legit.
Jebster and Rubester are both elected officials statewide in Florida and cannot pretend to be from some other state. (Jebster the ex-gov, of course.) So there is no getting around it if someone is honest and not a con artist.
Rubio is good at PR up to a point. But he has already been tainted by being co-opted by Schumer and McCain and aligning for amnesty. Amnesty and Rubio may both already be... DOA. Besides, is Rubio a natural born citizen? Apparently not.
#8 it is not possible to reason with one issue voters. The problem is their very easily manipulated by the the other side and the press. The problem is our side has one issue voters on many different issues, therefore we never get behind any candidate.#3 it´s nice you believe everything Charlie Crist says. We are not called the stupid party for nothing.
President Obama has recalled John Podesta to work at the White House as a “counselor.” Podesta is the Clinton hand who founded the far-left Center for American Progress (home of the clownish Think Progress blog). Podesta’s appointment, which needs no congressional approval, comes at a time when Obama is already making moves to do without Congress. He has used executive actions to re-write Obamacare, and to recalibrate immigration law, both in ways that just happen to favor either himself or the Democrats. The New York Times reports that Podesta will work on executive actions when he returns to the White
On CNN’s “Reliable Sources” on Sunday, new host Brian Stelter turned to President Obama the press critic. At the end of his cakewalk “Hardball” interview last week, Obama called out the media for being divisive. “The American people are good and they are decent. And yes, we get very divided partly because our politics and our media specifically tries to divide them and splinter them.” Stelter asked a decent question about whether that was an odd statement to make on divisive MSNBC. NPR television critic Eric Deggans shot that down, insisting MSNBC was a “great place” to attack cable news
Former CIA Director Leon Panetta revealed classified information at a 2011 awards ceremony attended by Zero Dark Thirty filmmaker Mark Boal, according to documents obtained by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch. The CIA allowed Boal, the screenwriter of Zero Dark Thirty, to attend a June 24, 2011 award ceremony celebrating the successful raid on Osama bin Laden’s hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan that May. A transcript of Panetta’s speech that night obtained by Judicial Watch is labeled “top secret,” and significant portions of it are redacted. At the conclusion his speech, Panetta told the audience, “You have made me proud
UPDATE: Rep. Paul Ryan and Sen. Patty Murray unveiled a budget proposal Tuesday night. The proposal, which has yet to be voted on, busts through sequester caps, setting FY 2014 spending at $1.014 trillion — billions beyond the levels mandated by sequester. The proposal contains no mention of pension reform. Conservatives had better start paying attention to the budget battle raging in Washington: If things go south — and they are poised to do just that — the tea party’s single greatest policy victory, the sequester, could be destroyed. And worse yet, it could be destroyed in exchange for nothing. The sequester
Approval of ObamaCare in the United States has risen eight percentage points in the last month, according to a new poll. Thirty-nine percent of people now approve of the law, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll released Tuesday evening. Half of the public, by contrast, disapproves of ObamaCare, the poll found. Nearly 60 percent say they don’t think the sign-up process for ObamaCare is going well, but more than one-third say it’s improving. These figures come in just ten days after the administration touted the repaired federal portal for the insurance, HealthCare.gov. Obama’s general job approval rating has increased to 42 percent,
Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), in an appearance on MSNBC´s "PoliticsNation" on Friday, condemned former Sen. Rick Santorum´s comments comparing Nelson Mandela´s fight against apartheid to the fight against Obamacare as "shameful." "And actually if I was going to make a comparison, I would make the opposite comparison, because I think the struggle for justice, which Nelson Mandela led for so many years is similar as the struggle for the health care as a right for people in the richest country in the world, and so the idea that they would make that comparison in the opposite way is just tragic,"
According to a new Rasmussen Report, the majority of Americans do not believe the deportation of illegal immigrants living in the United States is aggressive enough. More than 20 House Democrats last week urged President Obama to halt the deportation of illegal immigrants until Congress passes a comprehensive immigration reform plan, but voters by a two-to-one margin oppose that idea. Most already think the federal government is not vigilant enough in deporting those who are in this country illegally. Only 29% of Likely U.S. Voters think the government should stop deporting illegal immigrants until Congress passes an immigration reform plan.
Twitchy, the conservative Twitter aggregation site, has been sold for an undisclosed amount to Salem Communications, the Christian radio conglomerate and owners of Hotair.com and Townhall.com. Jonathan Garthwaite, general manager and editor-in-chief of Townhall.com, confirmed the news to BuzzFeed Tuesday, saying he was “excited” to be folding Twitchy into existing Salem news properties. “Media Matters types would like to paint conservatives as boring, old white guys,” Garthwaite said. “Twitchy adds more fun and humor to our platform, which will appeal to totally different generation and break that stereotype.” Launched in March 2012, Twitchy was the brainchild of conservative author and
In a visit to NR’s New York office, Senator Ron Johnson said the fight against Obamacare is entering a new phase: “We’ve got to start talking about transitioning.” Johnson won his Senate seat in 2010 based in large part on his fierce opposition to Obamacare, which he still adamantly opposes as an assault on Americans’ liberty and criticizes in the harshest terms (look no further than his recent weekly radio address). But simple repeal is no longer enough, he believes. He says that Republicans have to acknowledge that the law now exists. “How do you repeal?” he asks. “Yeah, you
President Obama´s appointment of Democratic adviser John Podesta, an opponent of the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline, to the White House could foretell a rejection of the controversial Canada-to-Texas pipeline, environmental groups said Tuesday. Podesta, former President Bill Clinton´s chief of staff and the man who headed Obama´s transition team, is leaving the top post of the Center for American Progress, a left-leaning think tank, for a new White House role focusing on climate change. Obama has vowed to lead an active White House on the issue — the president said in June he would rely on his executive authority to
President Obama is still holding back on firing anyone for the disastrous first two months of the Obamacare roll-out and instead is adding key staff to help steer a smoother course next year. While critics are still calling for heads to roll, some Republicans say Obama´s decision to bring in two well-known Washington players to help right the ship shows he´s serious about shaking up his second-term strategy and execution. Senators on both sides of the aisle are praising the prospect of Obama tapping veteran Democratic strategist John Podesta, a former chief of staff for President Bill Clinton. This week,
MSNBC anchor and NBC News political director and chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd lashed out at Fox News for what he described as "pandering to an audience" over their coverage of President Obama´s enthusiastic handshake with Cuban dictator Raul Castro at Tuesday´s memorial service for Nelson Mandela. Chuck Todd ? @chucktodd Follow Really? An entire segment on a handshake? Good grief; pandering to an audience 10:37 AM - 10 Dec 2013 The irony of an MSNBC anchor accusing another network of pandering to their audience requires no explanation. Todd joins CNN, Politico´s Dylan Byers, and a number of other
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
President Obama’s job approval among American voters has dropped to negative territory with just 38 percent voicing their approval versus the 58 who says they disapprove, according to a national poll released Tuesday by the independent Quinnipiac University. That is one percent less than the 39% who said they approved of him in last month’s poll. The majority of the 2,692 registered voters the University in early December said that the president is not honest and trustworthy. When asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?,” respondents gave Obama lackluster ratings
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. Barack Obama has arrived in South Africa to lead the American delegation at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. The sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela´s memorial yesterday "made up his own signs," according to South Africa´s deaf federation. "He´s a complete fraud," Cara Loening, director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town, said according to ITV News. "He wasn´t even doing anything, There was not one sign there. Nothing. He was literally flapping his arms around." Delphin Hlungwane, an official South African sign language interpreter at DeafSA, told Reuters:
