Instead of a romantic wedding at sea, one Texan couple´s nuptials has descended into hell because they are currently stranded on the Carnival Triumph cruise ship in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.Rob Mowlam, 37 and Stephanie Stevenson, 27 of Nederland, Texas were married by the captain of the now stricken vessel on Saturday night, but the next day an engine fire disabled the 900-foot vessel leaving it a bobbing cork in the ocean. Instead of a champagne breakfast, the newly married couple are now stranded along with 4,200 other passengers surrounded by cabin carpets soaked in urine,

I know it´s not the honeymoon the planned for (and they´ll get free tickets for a do-over) but it´s excellent training for marriage and children.

The no food and no toilet mantra just doesn´t make sense. Pee and poo overboard for goodness sakes, and what were they going to eat originally? It can´t all go bad in 3 - 4 days.

Typical sensationalism by the media. Food was delivered by two other cruise ships and they report having plenty of food. Also, maybe not every toilet is working, but there are working toilets and running water.

I suspect that there are lawyers aboard who are trying to set the stage for a big lawsuit.

While A-stan is dangerous, American contractors have done an outstanding job of keeping our troops comfortable, clean, well fed and even entertained (MWR) in the zone.

Even the tiny COPS (Combat Outposts) are well served.

I too, speak from experience. (Actually, I believe me and you were in the same neck O´ the woods in 2011?)

I don´t understand why there are no emergency generators on board to keep water and lights on. Couldn´t they have Porta Potties on board that could be put on deck and flush them with sea water. There must be some kind of solution to these problems. Was there another cruise ship that the passengers could have been transferred to by lifeboats mid ocean? Is this too simple?

A federal court has ruled that an American school student has a right to free expression -- unless that American might be threatened for that expression by others, in which case state officials have the right to quash the offending expression to appease potential aggressors. Which, ipso facto, means Americans have no right to free expression at all. For if it’s not the government’s role to protect expression that is thought to be offensive by a vicious mob, what purpose does the First Amendment have? “Safe” expression needs no protection, after all. WASHINGTON — The recovery appeared to be reaching escape velocity at the end of December, but it turns out the economy wasn´t expanding quite as fast as initially thought — and that doesn´t bode well for hopes of a breakout this year. The Commerce Department sharply reduced its estimate of fourth-quarter growth to a moderate 2.4% annual rate. Friday´s revision downsized big gains in consumer spending and exports from its initial estimate of 3.2% in January. The updated figures on total economic output, known as gross domestic product, indicated the economy entered this year with less momentum than analysts had

The Walt Disney Company has given notice to the Boy Scouts of America that it will pull all funding to the group starting in 2015 because of a BSA membership policy that bans gay leaders, the entertainment company said Friday. Disney does not give money directly to the national organization or local BSA councils. However, through its VoluntEARS program, Disney allows employees to do volunteer work in exchange for cash donations to the charities of their choice. Employees taking part in the VoluntEARS program will no longer be able to submit the funds to the Boy Scouts, the organization said.

On Thursday night, the best assessment from the U.S. intelligence community—and for that matter most experts observing events in Ukraine—was that Vladimir Putin’s military would not invade Ukraine. Less than 24 hours later, however, there are reports from the ground of Russian troops pushing into the Ukrainian province of Crimea. It’s hardly a full-blown invasion. But it’s not quite the picture U.S. analysts were painting just a day before. There was good reason to think Putin wouldn’t do it. Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov told Secretary of State John Kerry that Russia respected the territorial integrity of the Ukraine. U.S.

Finding a trove of 19th century gold coins was an unexpected windfall for a California couple, but what comes next is one of life´s great certainties: taxes. The couple is likely to lose about half the coins´ value in taxes to the U.S. government, thanks to a 1969 tax case called Cesarini v. United States. In the 45-year-old case, a husband and wife bought a used piano for $15 but found about $4,500 stashed inside. Although they argued that the money shouldn´t be taxed, the court found in favor of the IRS. That means that the unnamed California couple who

A treaty signed in 1994 by the US and Britain could pull both countries into a war to protect Ukraine if President Putin´s troops cross into the country. Bill Clinton, John Major, Boris Yeltsin and Leonid Kuchma – the then-rulers of the USA, UK, Russia and Ukraine - agreed to the The Budapest Memorandum as part of the denuclearization of former Soviet republics after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Technically it means that if Russia has invaded Ukraine then it would be difficult for the US and Britain to avoid going to war. The revelation comes as reports suggest the

Minutes after issuing a stern warning to Russia and saying there will be a price to pay if it interferes militarily in Ukraine, President Obama headed to a “happy hour” with fellow Democrats. Speaking at a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee, Mr. Obama struck a very different tone than he had less than 30 minutes earlier, when he appeared with little warning in the White House press briefing room and issued a vague threat to Moscow. “Well, it’s Friday. It’s after 5 o’clock. So, this is now officially happy hour with the Democratic party,” the president told his cohorts.
