Jose Antonio Vargas, an illegal immigrant and former reporter, scolded a congressional panel on Wednesday, saying that he should not be called illegal, and saying it is an insult to his family who brought him here. “When you inaccurately call me illegal, you not only dehumanize me, you’re offending them,” he said. “No human being is illegal.” Mr. Vargas testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee alongside Chris Crane — a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent and president of the ICE agents’ union — who is unable to arrest him under the administration’s new non-deportation policies.
Why do these people get special treatment. Über elites treat them like house trained pets. Sorry, but the rest of us out here in real America pay our taxes, comply with the law. We have no representation in DC.
He is right. It would be simpler and more precise to call him a criminal. People who break the law are called lawbreakers, criminals, outlaws, felons etc.
Coming into the country illegally is actually a form of breaking and entering. If the same person broke into and entered a residence or business establishment and were apprehended, they would be arrested and charged with a crime.
This man claims it is an insult to his family to remind people that they broke the law by sneaking into the United States. But since they did break the law by sneaking into the United States, they can, and should, be called criminals. He should count his blessings. Illegal immigrant is actually a euphemism for criminal.
Mr. vargas, just shut up. Then consider what happens in mexico to someone who cannot provide adequate documentation. The answer is, they get kicked around first then sent to jail, then summarily deported, as mexico has the toughest immigration laws in this hemisphere.
This arrogant fugitive from justice should have been cuffed and lead away on the spot! America is still a Constitutional Republic based on the rule of law, not a Third World Banana Republic based on "The Divine Right Of King Zero." May God Save The Republic!
The most of putting aspect of this spectacle is the absolute GALL of an ILLEGAL ALIEN to LECTURE our CONGRESS about the proper way to address HIM !!!
The arrogance with which they flaunt our laws is breathtaking !
But then again, the men and women who occupy their respective congressional seats are spineless, feckless cowards and free loaders for the mos part and not really deserving of any respectt. So I guess it´s a wash.
The illegal with a grievance complex is from the Philippines. Not surprised, given the wretchedness of that country. Why should anyone listen to him about what he wants to be called? Does he really think we owe it to him to not describe his immigration status as illegal if it is illegal. If he doesn´t like it, let him go back to Philippines, preferably the Manila dump, and make his complaints.
Every post I´ve read so far is missing a very important point. These libs keep saying it´s not a big "crime" to enter the country illegally, or overstay a visa. The point I´d like to make is the guy admitted to working, while here as an illegal, and therefore is guilty of either tax evasion, or identity theft, or both. Both are "criminal" offenses, and not just being here illegally. He is an identity thief. Charge him and put him in jail. Will anyone in the media try to find out whose SSN he has been using?
That one of these impotent, cowardly Congress wimps had had the nerve to get up in his face and preach the fear of God into this criminal´s face!!!!
This nation died on 11-6-2012. We are just going through our death moans and overall rot and decay now.
Those of us that know this are getting prepared. But those that voted to kill this nation on November 6th are actually going to be shocked when the corpse rots away and they have nothing, and nobody to give them ´´free stuff´´ any more!!!!
As #24 above said, just about every illegal alien who now has a US job, and who before getting that job did not have specific permission from the immigration authorities, has most likely committed a federal criminal felony by either falsifying the federal employee verification Form I-9 by using a false identity, some by even falsely claiming to be a US citizen, by listing on that federal form some sort of bogus, counterfeit, or fraudulent US identification documents. If any legitimate US citizen ever did that on any federal form, and was found out, you can safely bet that they would be criminally prosecuted and convicted of a crime.
Today the country is being run by educated idiots (Democrats) who have been able to fool over half of the American public who then voted for them, so what do you expect to happen?
this does show what should happen....the guy should be called a crimminal and thrown in jail..and everyone of those people who hold a congressional office, should be kicked out for even listening to this guy. They are helping a crimminal...
Ergo, ...breaking U.S. Law by sneaking across this country´s sovereign border is no longer to be, ´´ILLEGAL?!´´ Every country on the planet has Immigration Law protecting their borders, ...but apparently the U.S.A. is now not expected to enforce our´s?!!! ...By the very ILLEGAL aliens themselves?!! What nerve!
As Yakov would say, ´´What a country!´´ (´´Border,´´ STILL mean things!)
When I was much younger and my son was still a child, I found out the "state" would help me collect my past-due child support---if I applied for AFDC. So I went to the county office to apply. The little twit reading my application said, "It says here you aren´t receiving the child support from his adoptive father, who is his real father?"
I said I had court ordered payments from the adoptive father, she said "We need the real father´s name."
I started to say, "He is illegitimate, I was raped and don´t know the man´s name."
She interrupted at the comma and said, "He is a real child, no child is illegitimate!"
Semantics don´t change the facts, my son was born without a known father and criminal alien invaders are illegal migrants without government permission--in the form of an immigrant visa received before entry--to be in this country.
The State Department has issued a worldwide travel alert because of the threat of terrorist attacks from al-Qaida and affiliated organizations, it said Friday. The State Department cited the potential for terrorist attacks in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. "Current information suggests that al-Qaida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks both in the region and beyond, and that they may focus efforts to conduct attacks in the period
We just heard from President Obama that the middle class is struggling. We also heard that he is taking another those vacations that will cost a fortune: "The Massachusetts island of Martha´s Vineyard, the exclusive playground for presidents and their families, is about to get its annual summer infusion of cash and attention as President Obama and his family prepare to arrive August 10 for an eight-day vacation. Local reports indicate that the first family will likely be staying at a
On November 25, 1970, writer Yukio Mishima and four of his friends paid a visit to the commandant of the Tokyo camp of Japan´s eastern army. After the commandant poured tea, things turned weird. The visitors tied the officer to his chair, took him hostage and demanded that entire camp gather beneath his balcony. When the soldiers were assembled, Mishima extolled them to hold a coup to restore the authority of the emperor. The audience laughed. Realising that he was getting nowhere, Mishima knelt down on the floor and committed ritual suicide
Nice Fallback Position You’ve Got There: Both pro- and anti-legalization forces in the immigration fight will be trying to make their cases to House members–especially Republican members–during the August recess. But here’s the fundamental asymmetry in this debate–the pro-legalization forces don’t really need to show up. The anti-legalizers do. Pro-side Democrats can be distracted (by the need to defend Obamacare, for example) or they can just be lazy and unmotivated. As long as the antis are also unmotivated, legalization will win. Tie goes to the border-jumper.
Starting in 2014, members of Congress and their staffs will have to get their health insurance through Obamacare’s insurance marketplaces. But according to a regulation that the Obama administration’s Office of Personnel Management plans to announce on Friday and release next week, the federal government can continue to contribute toward the cost of their health plans. The regulation comes after months of worry on Capitol Hill. The Affordable Care Act includes a provision, first proposed by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), forcing members of Congress and their staffs
These "phony" scandals keep rudely refusing to go away. New findings from the House Judiciary Committee appear to stop short of accusing the Attorney General of bona fide perjury, but make clear that they view his testimony as grossly misleading. Via National Review: The House Judiciary Committee has just released a report declaring that Attorney General Eric Holder misled House members during sworn testimony about the Justice Department’s investigation of Fox News reporter James Rosen. “The Committee finds that Mr. Holder’s sworn testimony in the Rosen matter was deceptive and misleading,” the report reads.
These days there are sophisticated and scientific solutions to the dismal problem of unwanted childlessness — there are IVF, Viagra and well-established egg and sperm donor services. We think of these as recent advantages and give thanks for the modern age. But what only very few people are aware of is that long before sperm donation was practically or ethically possible, in the early 20th century, a secret sperm donation service existed for those women most in need. Helena Wright was a renowned doctor, bestselling author, campaigner and educator who overcame the establishment
Confession: You’re paying my phone bill. In the past month, I have received three shiny new cell phones, courtesy of American taxpayers, that should never have fallen into my hands. The Federal Communications Commission oversees the so-called Lifeline program, created in 1984 to make sure impoverished Americans had telephone service available to call their moms, bosses, and 911. In 2008, the FCC expanded the program to offer subsidized cell-phone service, and since then, the expenses of running the program have soared. In 2012, the program’s costs had risen to $2.189 billion, up from $822
Eliot Spitzer refused today to deny that he has a girlfriend. The candidate for city comptroller was asked three times at a campaign stop this morning in Brooklyn about persistent rumors he is having an "extra-marital affair." "I am so tired of the personal attacks and I´ve answered all those questions," Spitzer said outside the Borough Hall subway station, where he was shaking hands with voters and received an overwhelmingly positive response. "The public cares about what I did in government. That´s what I´m going to be talking about and that´s what the public is going to be voting on --
During his first presidential race, Barack Obama pledged to "expand and fund AmeriCorps from 75,000 slots today to 250,000" volunteers, putting service-minded millennials to work on the nation´s toughest problems. After just three months in office, he signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act authorizing the expansion of the Clinton-era program to the goal of 250,000. He had kept his promise, Obama boasted, and he declared 2009 the dawn of a "new era of service." But the dawn never broke. Congress never funded the quarter-million hires, not even when Democrats controlled both chambers in 2009-10.
“We have learned that the sequestration already has cut 1.6 million jobs. So we need job creation. We need to help the middle class by creating jobs.” — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), floor speech, July 31, 2013 Reid’s comment jumped out at us — 1.6 million jobs have already been lost because of the sequester? That seemed rather large. The sequester, of course, are the automatic across-the-board spending cuts that were imposed March 1 when Republicans and Democrats could not reach agreement on a budget plan.
The rapid evolution of attitudes toward gay marriage is a wonder to behold. On few issues has public opinion moved as quickly or decisively. Many who are against the formal recognition of homosexual unions are now resigned to the reality they will eventually become commonplace. The main drivers of this transformation are obvious. Most Americans now know that people they care about are gay men or lesbians, and empathy can do wonderful things. Partly because of this, younger Americans overwhelmingly favor same-sex marriage. They will dominate the electorates of the future.
Colin Powell has admitted to exchanging ´very personal´ emails with a Romanian diplomat but denies having an affair with the much younger woman after a hacker threatened to release their intimate messages. The 76-year-old retired general told the Smoking Gun that he met Corina Cretu, 45, roughly 10 years ago when she was working as an assistant to the president of Romania. She is now a member of the European Parliament. ´After I left the Department of State in January 2005 we stayed in touch via email,´ he told TSG.
Mark Levin, who hosts one of America´s top radio talk shows and is considered by supporters to be the people´s pundit on the Constitution, is rallying his 8.5 million-strong audience to demand an historic convention of state governments to halt the "oppressive power" of the federal government. The author of two New York Times bestsellers on the threats to the Constitution, Levin hopes his latest, "The Liberty Amendments," out mid-August, will spark the state lawmakers to tap a rarely used Constitutional provision to institute measures that would brake President Obama´s use of executive orders, bar thousand-page laws and
CNN has uncovered exclusive new information about what is allegedly happening at the CIA, in the wake of the deadly Benghazi terror attack. Four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the assault by armed militants last September 11 in eastern Libya. Sources now tell CNN dozens of people working for the CIA were on the ground that night, and that the agency is going to great lengths to make sure whatever it was doing, remains a secret. CNN has learned the CIA is involved in what one source calls an unprecedented attempt to keep the spy
The former commander of special operations in Northern Africa told a closed-door briefing today that he was largely detached from events the night of the Benghazi attack as he was traveling at the time. The testimony of Col. George H. Bristol, USMC, Former Commander, Joint Special Operations Task Force-Trans Sahara, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command Africa, had been eagerly anticipated by members of Congress. Originally, lawmakers had been told by the Defense Department that he had retired — the actual date is Aug. 1, an “administrative error” according to the Pentagon — and that they didn’t have
Serial sexter Anthony Weiner’s wife partly blamed herself last year when her horndog husband confessed to her that he was at it again. Friends and family told People magazine that Huma Abedin was kicking herself at the time for bailing out of couples counseling and focusing more on their newborn baby boy. But, thanks to a new round of joint therapy that continues even now, the couple was able to put the relapse behind them. “They really became a unit, and she feels much closer to Anthony now,” a relative told the magazine. That’s a long way from how Abedin
The United States will temporarily shut down its embassies and consulates around the world Sunday, including those in Iraq, Afghanistan and Egypt, as a precautionary measure, the State Department said Thursday. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf did not say how long the international installations would stay closed -- only that the decision was taken “out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting.” Sunday is a normal workday in many Arab and Middle Eastern countries. Embassies in Europe and Latin America would be shuttered that day anyway.
In preparation for the release of Oscar-bait film The Butler, Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, and director Lee Daniels (Precious) sat down with Parade magazine. The film chronicles a butler (Whitaker) who works in the White House through seven administrations. Winfrey plays the butler’s wife. In the interview, Winfrey explained her sadness that so few Americans know about the history of the civil rights movement: “They don’t know diddly-squat. Diddly-squat.” She then said of the historic use of the n-word, “I always think of the millions of people who heard that as their last
If we learned anything about Barack Obama in his first term it is that when he starts repeating the same idea over and over, what´s on his mind is something else. The first term´s over-and-over subject was "the wealthiest 1%." Past some point, people wondered why he kept beating these half-dead horses. After the election, we knew. It was to propagandize the targeted voting base that would provide his 4% popular-vote margin of victory—very young voters and minorities. They believed. He won. The second-term over-and-over, elevated in his summer speech tour, is the shafting of the middle class. But
American scientists claim the planet is undergoing one of the largest changes in climate in the past 65 million years. Climatologists at Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment have warned the likely rate of change over the next century will be at least 10 times quicker than any climate shift since the dinosaurs became extinct. If the trend continues at its current rapid pace, it will place significant stress on terrestrial ecosystems around the world, and many species will need to make behavioral, evolutionary or geographic adaptations to survive, they said.
[Video] Ouch. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie turned down an offer by Sen. Rand Paul to join him for a beer and bury the hatchet in their ongoing -- and very public -- feud. "I´m running for re-election in New Jersey. I don´t really have time for that at the moment," Christie said in an interview on a local radio station. The New Jersey governor said if he finds himself in Washington, "I´ll certainly look him up." But he added: "I don´t suspect I´ll be there anytime soon. I´ve got work to do here."
Oprah Winfrey said Americans by and large know “diddly-squat” about the history of the civil rights movement. The talk show queen and media mogul made her comments during the promotion of her new film, “The Butler,” about a black man who serves in that capacity through seven administrations at the White House. “They don’t know diddly-squat,” she said in a recent interview with Parade magazine. “Diddly-squat.” Ms. Winfrey also said that when she hears the N-word, she thinks of the “millions of people who heard that as their last word as they were hanging from a tree.”
The administration has popped the bubble of hope some small business had that switching to part-time staff would let them escape the high costs of Obamacare. The Small Business Administration on Thursday created a website to explain to businesses that the government will simply tally up the number of part-time employees firms have to determine if enough hours have been worked to essentially create a "full-time equivalent." Some smaller businesses had thought that if they could get under the 50 full-time employee cap that activates Obamacare by cutting full-time workers and hiring more part-time workers they would escape
