Lugar bemoans depth
of US political rancor

Journal Gazette [Fort Wayne, IN], by Brian Francisco

Political partisanship “is out of control,” largely the fault “of a massive industry that makes money off of political discord,” former Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., said in his first public speech since leaving office in early January. Many cable news networks, talk radio, think tanks, websites and fundraisers “have a deep economic stake in perpetuating political conflict. They are successfully marketing and monetizing partisan outrage,” Lugar said in remarks prepared for his Tuesday address at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University in Durham, N.C. He said some commentators “are true

Comments:
The old RINO rears his ugly head. Republican opposition (to Hagel) is another example of the politicization of national security policy?? Really? All he does it criticize Republicans and conservatives and not the corrupt 0bama or Democrats. It really is pathetic that he is running around the country spewing forth this delusional rhetoric. The leftists at the universities will lap it up.

There are morons on both sides of the aisle as Lugar reminds us. This man has lived so far outside reality for so many years that he is utterly incapable of rational thought.

He and Arlen Specter must be great friends.

There surely must be a place in Hades for this type of back-stabbing, self-centered sumbidge.

No Richard. The rancor is over the fact that more and more Americans no longer believe in this country and the direction it is heading. Instead, they vote to change the direction. There is never unanimity in change. And the slowly awaking giant that is the American people are moving towards change. Of course those that most benefit from the current status quo will bemoan the ´rancor´ that is really change. We will change this country or form a new one if needed. The Rebublicans and other politicos ignore us at their peril. Fear of change generates the ‘rancor’ opinion. But change is not bad and in this case far past needed.

"Bemoaning the depth of US political rancor" is like bemoaning the height of a fever. Blaming partisanship on "outside agitators" is false and insulting nonsense. (Though attributing at least some of it to a president who thinks his job description is to be a community agitator may not be far off base.)

It is amazing that Richard Lugar could spend his entire life in politics and still not grasp the basics. There are lots more like him on both sides of the aisle and, of course, in the media.

Loud, strong and rancorous political rhetoric and action signifies deep and therefore important disagreements. People like Lugar simply do not understand, or perhaps do not want to admit this. They think the disagreements are not all that serious or important, and that they would be easy to smooth out if there were not so much. . . disagreement!

Barack Obama has proclaimed his intent "to fundamentally transform the United States of America," and the entire Democratic party seems to be in line with his plan. Quite a few Americans, however, do not wish their country to be fundamentally transformed and do not see this as the the role of the president. Even if they did, they would not choose someone like Barack Obama to do the job for them.

We don´t need less political rancor. We need more of it. It is precisely the go along to get along mentality that has allowed our government to engage in institutionalized theft on a scale never before seen. It has reached the point where our government is placing a debt burden on people who haven´t even been born. If that doesn´t deserve rancor, then nothing does.

There has been far to little rancor for far too long.
Lugar should have been sent packing years ago.
The notorious Member from Indiana has a penchant for supporting his friends (Democrats) and his enemies (Republicans).
An honest press would have hounded him years ago, had there been such a thing as an honest press.
Lugar is a true RINO, willing to take party money and forget the party.
No wonder Dems have a majority. They own the RINOs. And Rove wants the Tea Party put to death.

The Washington Post has an outrageous story about how the Treasury Department is going after thousands of Americans to collect on debts — which may not have ever been real debts — it says deceased family members owed the government. A few weeks ago, with no notice, the U.S. government intercepted Mary Grice’s tax refunds from both the IRS and the state of Maryland. Grice had no idea that Uncle Sam had seized her money until some days later, when she got a letter saying that her refund had gone to satisfy an old debt to the government — a very old debt. When Grice was 4, back in 1960, her father died,
