State of the Union
Reaction:Media Gives
Obama Thumbs Up

Politico, by Mackenzie Weinger

Original Article

Posted By:Fiesta del sol, 2/13/2013 6:26:42 AM

President Barack Obama delivered an “effective” State of the Union address that took an emotional turn at the end with the emphasis on gun violence, members of the media said after his speech on Tuesday. CBS’s Bob Schieffer called the speech much “better” than Obama’s inaugural address, which he said had come across as a “partisan lecture.” “I mean, the president’s inaugural address had sort of a partisan lecture tone about it,” Schieffer said after Obama wrapped. “This was a political speech, but it was well-written, it had a beginning, a middle and an end.”

Hacks at the politico wake up everyday and put their underwear on backwards for Obama. You have to live in fantasy land to think Obama´s speech was effective.Of course the gun grabbers are happy because they think it will lead to the end of gun loving rednecks.

Once the constitution is destroyed,it needs a replacement, right?

Who knew a speech would have a beginning, a middle, and an end??? (Yes, journalists are this stupid!)

No, it was likely drafted yesterday morning, with spaces left to insert a few real-time observations and reactions, so they could post it almost immediately.

The leftmedia had already decided yesterday morning that last night´s SOU was yet another Lincolnesque performance, comparable to the Gettysburg Address.

W.H. Holds off-the-

Politico, by Dylan Byers    Original Article

The White House held an off-the-record briefing with reporters on Friday afternoon to discuss recent revelations about the Benghazi investigation, sources familiar with the meeting tell POLITICO. The meeting began around 12:45 p.m. and postponed the daily, on-the-record White House press briefing to 1:45 p.m. White House press secretary Jay Carney did not respond to a request for confirmation of the meeting. The off-the-record session was announced to reporters in the wake of an ABC News report showing that White House and State Dept. officials were involved in revising the now-discredited CIA talking points about the attack on Benghazi.

President Obama has ordered his Cabinet officials to praise Obamacare when giving speeches at college commencement ceremonies, even as the president’s aides fear that poor implementation of the law will tarnish his legacy. “To counter the criticism, the White House has told all Cabinet members and senior officials to use commencement speeches to drive home for graduating college students and their parents the benefits they gain from a provision of the law that allows young adults to stay on their family’s insurance plans until they turn 26,” Bloomberg reports. John McCain is going to release a bill that would dismantle cable as it´s currently constructed, Brenden Sasso at The Hill reports. The legislation would force cable companies and satellite TV providers to give consumers an option to pick and choose which channels they get. This is called "à la carte programming," and it´s long been a dream of consumers who only want a handful of channels. McCain tried to introduce similar legislation in 2006 and it went nowhere.

Benghazi: Incompetence,

National Journal, by Michael Hirsh    Original Article

There was tragic incompetence, plainly, in the Obama administration’s handling of the Benghazi attacks, and even possibly some political calculation. It is a record that may well come to haunt Hillary Clinton, the first Secretary of State to lose an ambassador in the field in more than three decades, if she runs for president in 2016. But the obvious Republican effort to turn this inquiry into the Democratic (Obama) version of the Iraq intelligence scandal that has tarred the GOP since the George W. Bush years -- led by that least-credible of champions, the almost-always-wrong Darrell Issa --

The Republicans, apparently with nothing better to do, are still chasing their tails over the tragic events in Benghazi on September 11.Actually, no. That’s not true. They’re chasing their tails over what happened after the tragic events of September 11. They’re mostly concerned that the Obama Administration tried to cover up the fact that this was a terrorist attack by a local militia (translation: local street gang) which aspired toward bad-butt Al Qaeda status. This is a pretty hard sell since, the day after the attack, the President called it an “act of terror.”

Does Marco Rubio really

You’ve heard the false choice thousands of times from pro-amnesty Republicans: We must either give the 11 million illegal immigrants currently in the country today citizenship, or we must round them up for mass deportations. This is, of course, ridiculous. There are plenty of other ways to deal with the 11 million illegal immigrants currently in the country. Granting them permanent resident status is just one non-deportation-or-citizenship option. But as bad as rounding up 11 million people sounds, the Schumer-Rubio bill actually envisions a similar mass deportation but on a slightly smaller scale.

Rubio: Illegals will pay fines or be deported! Ambassador of Amnesty Marco Rubio argues on Powerline–or rather, “Marco Rubio” argues, since the words are attributed only to his “office”**–that critics overstate the number of new immigrants who would be added by his legalization bill: There are approximately 11 million illegals currently in the US, and many of them won’t be eligible for legalization (because they haven’t been here long enough, don’t pass background checks, can’t afford the fines, etc.) and will have to be deported.

The news today that the great country singer George Jones had died at age 81 left me flooded with memories of my visit with him in 2010. I went to his sprawling estate in Franklin, Tenn., to interview Jones for our "50 Great Voices" series. After our interview, he took me on a tour of his basement "museum." (Snip)There on the wall, I spotted a fascinating oddity: a framed letter to George Jones from none other than Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Despite the many differences I had with former President George W. Bush on a range of public policy issues, or as he called them, "decision points," I found common ground with him in one area, simply because we decided to put aside partisanship and do something good. Hurricane Katrina´s devastation and the bungled rescue efforts are seared in the national memory. Bush´s "heckuva job" remark turned into a byword for government incompetence and public distrust. The shallowness of it coming at such a terrible and low point left deep wounds that are still healing. That was what it was.

In a move that would capitalize on provisions under President Barack Obama´s health care law but could cost the federal government millions of dollars, Washington state lawmakers have found a creative way to pass a large chunk of their health care expenses along to Washington, D.C. — and analysts say others are likely to follow suit. The plan threatens to affect the federal budget and the pocketbooks of some part-time workers, as it would push a group of employees out of their current health care plans and into an exchange developed under the Affordable Care Act.

As a presidential speech writer for the first Bush White House, I am always very interested in what presidents say in their formal speeches. They know, of course, that their remarks will be widely covered by the press, studied by analysts, and influential in contemporary political debates. For that reason, presidents rarely speak off-the-cuff, and their every word is carefully chosen for exactly the message the White House wants to convey to the public. Their graduation speeches, like all presidential addresses, go through many drafts and are reviewed by high-level administration officials

The most notable takeaway from Jay Carney’s incomprehensible Friday appearance had little to do with his Klingon grammar. Carney does not represent the historical value of the event – you should be wise to forget his performance, and instead take note that he was flanked by the entire room, without exception. Do not underestimate the significance: the Obama administration has not faced such an onslaught of truth-seeking since he took office in 2008, and further, no Democratic administration has been charged from all sides like this in recent memory. That press conference was unthinkable just days ago

Northwestern University continued to stumble over diversity issues this week as Mexican students voiced disagreement with a campuswide letter that advised students not to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by engaging in racially-offensive activities, such as eating tacos and drinking tequila. The letter was sent to students via e-mail, and published in The Daily Northwestern last week. Leaders of Alianza, a Latino student group, and the Associated Student Government called on students to remember that Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla. It is not a day to throw a sombrero-themed party, they said.

When it became clear last fall that the CIA’s now discredited Benghazi talking points were flawed, the White House said repeatedly the document were put together almost entirely by the intelligence community, but White House documents reviewed by Congress suggest a different story. ABC News has obtained 12 different versions of the talking points that show they were extensive edited as they evolved from the drafts first written entirely by the CIA to the final version distributed to Congress and to U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice before she appeared on five talk shows the Sunday after that attack.

The Clinton political machine is in full campaign mode already, preparing for 2016 and hoping voters forget by then that she had a key role in the Obama administration’s handling of the terror attack. But that’s becoming more difficult as the GOP appears to be laying the groundwork for tying Clinton to Benghazi and making sure it stays front and center in the next campaign. Some of the testimony from State Department whistleblowers
