Americans are losing trust
in government

USA Today, by Glenn Harlan Reynolds

Original Article

Posted By:PageTurner, 2/12/2013 1:09:21 PM

A government limited to few things can probably do those things well, and thus it´s likely to be trusted. A government that tries to do many things, might do them badly, and be less highly regarded. Last week, I noted that Americans are losing confidence in their government: According to a new Pew poll, more than half see it as a threat to their freedom. That´s a troubling number. But why have things gotten so bad? Well, perhaps it´s because government actually has become a bigger threat to freedom. There´s plenty of support for that notion,

Comments:
Yep. Reynolds makes good points.

How can you trust a government who has not passed a budget in four years and continues to spend at an unsustainable rate? Other countries have stopped buying our debt, as they no longer believe we can pay them back, so 0bama and company just keep printing $83 Billion Dollars a month to buy our own securities. This massive printing of dollars drives up the price of everything, and it also makes your savings worth much less. This administration lies about the unemployment which is over 15%, and massive increases are seen in people getting disability, welfare, food stamps and every other government freebie programs. The people getting all the free stuff are happy, but the rest of us have lost trust in our government.

Libs blame "guns" for violence, rather than the people doing the shooting. But conservatives make the mistake of blaming "government" for our problems. It´s not the government; we have the best form of government in history. The problem is that our government has been taken over by a gang of corrupt fools. That´s who we don´t trust.

Increasingly we are hearing about armed government SWAT teams invading peoples homes to enforce some regulation, not to mention the Feds at many agencies stockpiling weapons and ammunition.

Millions of Americans have also lost trust in a government that took over the healthcare system, gave auto companies to the UAW, and through regulation is engaged in an effort to destroy the oil industry. What´s more, the government (democrats) are coming after the 2nd Amendment, and obama and his lefty agents hagel and brennen pursue disarmament policies at a time when rogue countries such as iran and nk are going nuke. Not to mention, our mortal enemy, china, which is rapidly expanding its military power.

Actually, government limited to the principles of the U.S. Constitution & Bill of Rights is a very good thing. -´´The proof is in the pudding,´´ throughout American history. The trouble currently is that radical statist polititians & THEIR media do not respect the principles which have undeniably secured the very Life, Liberty, Justice and Pursuit of Happiness of American citizens EQUALLY, and so these statist pols are trying to ignore the USA´s Constitutional Rule of Law, which is suppose to keep our ship of state on its course of freedom.

As evidence of beltway corruption, notice how many pols break existing Federal Immigration Law at 0bama´s speech tonight by bringing as, ´guests,´ ILLEGAL aliens. It is against the law to transport/traffic ILLEGAL aliens but the pols who legislate laws apparently no longer think that they themselves must obey them?!! mmm mmm mmm

Venezuela: An Election

Latin America: Venezuela´s election on Sunday, which saw bus driver Nicolas Maduro declared the winner by a razor-thin margin, reeked of electoral fraud. Kudos to challenger Henrique Capriles for calling it out. Fraud is a strong word but, yes, it´s the clearest conclusion from Venezuela´s election Sunday to pick a successor to the late socialist dictator Hugo Chavez. Chavez´s hand-picked successor "won" Venezuela´s election Sunday, with what Chavez´s anything-but impartial CNE electoral body declaring he´d gotten 50.6% of the vote, while his challenger, Miranda state governor Henrique Capriles Radonski garnered 49.07% — a gap of just 235,000 votes.

icolas Maduro, political heir to the late Hugo Chavez, was declared the winner of Venezuela’s presidential election yesterday in a result that was immediately challenged by the opposition. The 50-year-old former bus driver received 50.7 percent of the votes, the national electoral council said after about 99 percent of ballots were counted. Henrique Capriles Radonski, who temporarily stepped down as governor of Miranda state to run, had 49.1 percent and vowed to contest the results. “We had a fair and constitutional victory,” Maduro said after the results were announced. “This is another victory, a homage to our comandante Hugo Chavez.”

CARACAS - Ruling party candidate Nicolas Maduro won Venezuela´s presidential election on Sunday with 51 percent of votes, the electoral authority said, allowing him to carry forward the socialist policies of the late Hugo Chavez. Maduro´s young challenger, Miranda state Governor Henrique Capriles, took 49 percent of the ballots, the authority said, in a tighter-than-expected vote.

How Thatcher Changed Hearts

It wasn’t just Margaret Thatcher’s steadfast economic and foreign policies that helped to defeat the Evil Empire and to bring down the Iron Curtain. She also changed hearts and minds — and this PJ Media author, who grew up on the other side of the Iron Curtain, has a personal story to tell. As many Soviet kids did in the 1970s and 1980s, I occasionally tuned my shortwave radio to Voice of America or the BBC Russian Service, hoping to hear their alternative take on world events and, if I was lucky, get the latest rock-music updates.

LONDON - Police were on standby for street violence after protesters pledged to "celebrate" the death of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher with a party at the scene of a 1990 riot against one of her most unpopular policies. Senior police officers have already launched an operation to prevent disorder surrounding her televised funeral at St Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday, which is due to be attended by Britain’s queen and world leaders. Every living former U.S. president is invited. With tight security around the official event, protest groups have threatened to gather on Saturday in London’s Trafalgar Square,

Ashley Baldwin, who began working at the cash-only Women’s Medical Society clinic in west Philadelphia when she was just 15, said that she routinely assisted Gosnell with abortions and, on five different occasions, saw babies moving following the procedure. In one case, Baldwin, who is now 22 and the mother of her own toddler, testified that she witnessed an aborted baby “screeching,” the Philadelphia

As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.
