Tears of a true American hero:
Soldier who fought off brutal

An Army veteran who was today awarded the Medal of Honor for his courageous leadership during a daylong firefight in Afghanistan wept as President Obama named his fallen comrades. Former Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha took a moment to compose himself after Obama read the names of the eight Americans who died in the 2009 firefight. At a White House ceremony attended by the military´s top leaders and former Medal of Honor recipients, Obama recounted the dramatic battle at an outpost in the mountains near the Pakistan border where U.S. troops were far outnumbered.

Comments:
On this somber occasion, the CinC crawfished from his own responsibilites, seeming to blame someone else for asking soldiers to "defend the indefensible," as if he was not in command of the military the last part of 2009. The president should have personally apologized to the SSgt for his indecisiveness and his lacadasical attitude that play a large part in the death of this honorable man´s comrades. I can hardly contain my contempt and disgust at Obama for making such a statement on this occasion and in the presence of such of man as SSgt Romesha

I watched it all because its my way of honoring this magnificent patriot and his fallen comrades. Even Obama failed to stain the ceremony although as OP says, he made several inappropriate statements.

Obama should send his crew out to investigate just who the officers were who came up with the incompetent strategy to locate a combat outpost on low ground, with unsecured high ground (mountains) within small arms range all around the outpost, and run them out of the army.

Once the enemy took positions on that high ground they could look and shoot right down on the US positions and as anyone who ever served in the infantry will tell you that is a recipe for disaster. If it were not for brave soldiers like SSG Romesha probably no US personal would have survived.

My family took part in a fund raising drive to provide airline tickets so that some of Romesha´s fellow troops could attend this ceremony. The fund raiser was developed and run by a woman who lost her son in Afghanistan. Heroes all.

#2 is correct. Who was responsible for putting our boys is such an indefensible position? The ranking brass who made the call have the blood of those dead and wounded soldiers on their hands. God bless those soldiers, their families and all our troops who serve.

Another comment on the visual images from the ceremony: Obama and Michelle were both wearing purple to the ceremony. This is some non-verbal communication to the gay community. Another instance of Obama sticking his thumb in the eye of the military. He just can´t help himself. I´m surprised that Michelle did not decorate the White House in butterflies for the occasion, just to appeal to that leftist radical voting bloc.

If we have the high ground we can "spy" on them.

I know I read stories of cameras and defensive positions being removed because of complaints from "village elders"

The soldier that Obama speaks about in the beginning (whose mother sent Obama a letter about her son) is from our town. Stephan Mace died after having to wait 12 hours to be medevac´d that day. Very proud of Clinton Romesha. Very, very sad for Stephan´s family and for the families of the 7 other fallen men.

In four years more American Soldiers have been killed or injured in Afghanistan under Barack Obama´s "leadership" than were killed or injured during the entire eight years of the Bush presidency.

In fact, 75% of American casualties in Afghanistan have come under Barack Hussein Obama´s watch.

God bless our heroes.

God damn our enemies, both foreign AND domestic.

Barack doesn´t trust the United States Marine Corps.

Makes sense.

Most of America´s enemies don´t.

The Republican assault on Susan Rice is a fabricated scandal, attacking her for repeating CIA talking points, almost verbatim, to explain the Benghazi attacks. The U.N. ambassador’s version, even with its omissions, may turn out to be closer to the truth than some of the inflammatory GOP rhetoric. But just because Rice is being unfairly pilloried, this doesn’t mean she would be a good secretary of state. And it’s a close call on the merits: Given her friendship with President Obama, she would be uniquely able to speak as his emissary. But she would also carry some baggage

In addition to the tragedy of lost lives and injuries, Superstorm Sandy caused many billions of dollars in property damage. The sad truth: disasters occur every year in America. If you’re unlucky enough to suffer a disaster-related casualty, here’s what you need to know about the federal income tax implications. Theoretically, our beloved Internal Revenue Code allows you to claim an itemized deduction — on Schedule A of your Form 1040 — for personal casualty losses to the extent they are not covered by insurance. Exactly what is a casualty loss?

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
