For decades, orthodox Catholics were trying to expose Mahony for what he was: a rabidly liberal prelate who was in bed with Hollywood and was promoting manyt leftist agendas, especially through "Catholic education". We got nowhere.

#2, I am in my right mind and I will continue to contribute to the Catholic Church. As a critically thinking person, I can differentiate between the immoral behavior of a few that happened many years ago--devastating, nonetheless--and the overall intention and history of the institution. While she is not perfect, the Catholic Church has done an immense amount of good in the world, and will continue to do so. Pedophiles and their enablers can be found in all walks of life. Late in the game to be sure, but the Church has finally begun to struggle with this issue and its response to it. That´s more than I can say about a lot of other institutions.

For those who remember the Baltimore Catechism:
The matter is seriously wrong,
The sinner knows it is seriously wrong,
The sinner gives full consent (cannot transfer that much money for which he had a fiduciary duty without knowing what he was doing).

For those who do not believe in Purgatory, look at Psalm 99 which speaks of a God who forgives yet punishes all offenses.

He should be defrocked and in jail.

He enable continued child abuse .......... protected the offenders .......... stole from the faithful and deceased ........... with impunity.

The good cardinal must have learned fiscal manipulation at the feet of both houses of the U.S. Congress, you know, like Social Security funds. I am sure he feels remorse for his deeds, wink wink, but probably only remorse for being caught. He should be stripped of his red cape and hat and reduced to janitoring at the poorest of churches in his diocese.

#4, 10 years ago my devout sister told me that in her parish, St. Mary´s of Foxboro MA -diocese Boston - that people in her parish, motivated "right-thinking" Catholic couples, were "visiting" older parishioners in their homes and pressuring them to sign contracts to agree to donate hundreds of dollars - or as much as they could squeeze -per month to the Diocese. This was during the time Bernard Cardinal Law was in the news for the molestation scandals and the Church was paying out big money.

#4, to clarify, I was not talking in either of my 2 posts above about "the immoral behavior of a few that happened many years ago", I was talking about financial malfeasance on a massive scale against the Faithful by senior Catholic Church leaders now.
