Menendez is about to
find out who his friends
in Washington really are

New York Post, by Michael Goodwin

Original Article

If Sen. Robert Menendez is half as smart as he thinks he is, he’ll follow Harry Truman’s advice that, “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.” Menendez stands accused of going to the Dominican Republic to bed prostitutes, some underage. He got there via a contributor’s private jet, and he seems to have used his Senate position to help that contributor in a business deal. Although he belatedly coughed up nearly $60,000 for the flights when the FBI started nosing around, the Jersey Democrat insists he’s as pure as the driven snow.

The annual State of the Union pageant is a hideous, dispiriting, ugly, monotonous, un-American, un-republican, anti-democratic, dreary, backward, monarchical, retch-inducing, depressing, shameful, crypto-imperial display of official self-aggrandizement and piteous toadying, a black Mass during which every unholy order of teacup totalitarian and cringing courtier gathers under the towering dome of a faux-Roman temple to listen to a speech with no content given by a man with no content, to rise and to be seated as is called for by the order of worship — it is a wonder they have not started genuflecting — with one wretched representative of their

There was a distinct impression in the Philadelphia office of the Census Bureau that someone wanted the unemployment rate to drop in the months before the 2012 presidential election, according to a source who has already been interviewed by Congress. And this was a first. “It’s never come up prior to this administration,” said my source, who has worked through both the Bush and Clinton presidencies. This source, whom I have not identified, was questioned two weeks ago by the House Oversight Committee headed by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.). Forbes, by Avik Roy    Original Article

“Repealing and replacing” Obamacare with market-oriented reforms has been the Republican mantra for years now. If you’re a long-time follower of this space, you know that we’re skeptical that Obamacare will ever be repealed, GOP slogans to the contrary. Today, however, a trio of experienced Senate Republicans—Tom Coburn (Okla.), Richard Burr (N.C.), and Orrin Hatch (Utah)—have put forth the most thoughtful and constructive plan yet developed to repeal and replace Obamacare. The plan seeks to ensure that as many Americans have health coverage as Obamacare does. It’s a proposal grounded in the real-world tradeoffs that all serious reformers must make.

It also makes it inevitable that America’s going to refight this old battle, replete with enlightened progressives — many of them women — grasping for ways on television to dismiss presidential intern-shtupping with variations of “she was good to go.” In fairness, Marcus gets points for degree of difficulty here, framing this defense of the Clenis as a knock on the GOP for allegedly viewing women through some sort of virgin/whore lens. We’ve heard rumor that she’s slated for international duty in Canada. She started the security officer training last week, much to the dismay of many within the State Department. WICHITA FALLS — With five weeks to go before the primary, tea partiers are still grumbling about Sen. John Cornyn. But grumbling isn’t the same as spitting mad. After a dozen years in the Senate and his climb to become the party’s deputy leader, he’s the definition of the “establishment” many of them despise. He’s not aggressive enough, they say. Stephen Hawking has produced a "mind-bending" new theory that argues black holes do not actually exist - at least not in the way we currently perceive them. Instead, in his paper, Information Preservation and Weather Forecasting for Black Holes, Hawking proposes that black holes can exist without 'event horizons', the invisible cover believed to surround every black hole.During a previous lecture, 'Into the Black Hole', Hawkins described an event horizon as the boundary of a black hole, "where gravity is just strong enough to drag light back, and prevent it escaping".
“Falling through the event horizon, is a bit like going over Niagara Falls in a canoe", he said. "If you are above the falls, you can get away if you paddle fast enough, but once you are over the edge, you are lost. There's no way back.

Stockman, who submitted a last-minute longshot primary challenge to Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), has missed fifteen roll call votes since January 9, and has held nary a campaign event, despite drastically trailing Cornyn in the polls for an election in early March. Reporters trying to track Stockman down have been met with unresponsive campaign and congressional offices, though he appeared to have been located last week in Cairo, Egypt. The number of people enrolled in private health insurance under Obamacare has soared by more than one-third in recent weeks to around 3 million, according to government data released on Friday. Marilyn Tavenner, administrator of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), announced the preliminary tally in a blog posting. She forecast that enrollment through new federal and state health insurance marketplaces would continue to grow in coming weeks as a public outreach campaign accelerates. The new data adds to evidence that President Barack Obama´s administration has turned the corner on enrollment after a botched October 1 launch.
