Georgia Senate Race to Test GOP
Roll Call, by Joshua Miller

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 2/7/2013 5:48:03 AM

Conservative Rep. Paul Broun once called evolution, embryology and the big-bang theory “lies straight from the pit of Hell.” For Republicans yearning for Senate candidates who can appeal to moderate voters and win general elections, that’s exactly where Broun has come from. On Wednesday, the Georgian became the first member of the GOP to launch a bid to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss in 2014. His announcement kicks off what could be the longest, bloodiest, most ideological Senate primary this cycle — just as the party grapples with how to nominate candidates with broader electoral appeal.

Comments:
This will be another lost seat for our side if we can´t come up with a better candidate. Broun´s entitled to run, but he cannot win.

So if the Democrats come up with a moderate candidate, this clown loses 80% of the independent vote and the election. That is, assuming that he has foot-in-mouth disease like the Missouri and Indiana clowns who lose their senate races.

I can see it now - "even if an 11-year old is raped..."

Dems who believe in the teachings of John Maynard Keynes are more dangerous to our country than those Reps with fundamentalist religious views.

We must shape the narrative or continue to lose.

While I tend to agree with #2, I´d be a lot happier if the hokey beliefs of our ´fundamentalist´ candidates were significantly closer to what the bible actually says. It is one thing to be slandered for believing in Christ. It is something altogether different to invite slander due to screwball beliefs, drawn from medieval culture and philosophy, that have nothing to do with what the bible actually says.

Price will be the nominee and then senator. Probably come down to him or Casey Cagle. Cagle is popular, but as LT Gov he really has very little to do & Price can exploit that. Broun is a joke and cannot win statewide in the primary or general election. The only endearing thing about the guy is that his district covers Athens & it drives the lib students CRAZY that he is their rep.

Broun is a medical doctor. He ought to know that the science of embryology has enabled the lives of many babies to be saved in utero.

But no matter. If Broun ends up being the candidate, it´ll be another rerun of Akin-McAskill and Mourdock-O´Donnell. All his Democratic opponent has to do is play the video of Broun carrying on about demons spawning embryology in the pit of hell.

I´m not going to actually go to Roll Call to read this article as I´m a Republican and I do not believe that Paul Broun, nor his candidacy are from the Pit of Hell. Actually, I agree with Brown on evolution, embryology and the big-bang theory insofar as they all require a lot more "faith" than believing in intelligent design.

WITH THAT SAID, there are going to be at least a half a dozen people in this race and I expect that Dr. Tom Price, (GA-6) will end up topping the list and have the most likely chance to win the primary. At least, as of right now, he´s my choice. Additionally, rumor has it that if he runs, Karen Handel will run for his open seat. I´d love to see her as a contributing Member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Georgians seem to nominate moderately conservative Republicans for Senate. The last few have hardly been right-wingers. I´m guessing that Broun will lose the primary handily.

Dems can´t run on Obamacare

Some Democrats hope to minimize the importance of Obamacare as a political issue by focusing on other topics in this November´s midterm elections. Some hope to win by promising to fix the flawed national health care plan they passed in 2010. And others hope to turn the issue on Republicans by appealing to voters who have been helped by the law. The problem is, none of that will work. The importance of Obamacare as an issue in November 2014 cannot be controlled by either political party. It will be determined by just one thing, and that is the performance of Obamacare

The news that CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson is leaving the network does not come as any great surprise to those who have followed her career. Last year, at a time when we learned that the Obama Justice Department was spying on Fox News’ James Rosen as well as a group of reporters at the Associated Press, Attkisson reported that her computer had been hacked. But, as Dylan Byers wrote in Politico, Attkisson had an even bigger problem: most of her colleagues at CBS didn’t like the fact that she had spent the last few years reporting aggressively about

Viewers tuning in to C-SPAN 2 on Monday night and going into the wee hours of Tuesday morning might have thought they had stumbled into a sci-fi channel. The apocalyptic language from the Senate Democrats’ all-night chat about global warming was the stuff familiar to fans of B-movies and science fiction. Two dozen Democrats signed up to keep the Senate lights on and the cameras rolling through the night — dramatically increasing the Senate’s usual titanic carbon footprint — to rally support for legislation to tax carbon dioxide. With the incorporation of Crimea into Russia by force of arms about to become a fait accompli next week, speculation is increasingly turning to the longer-term implications of Vladimir Putin’s audacious land grab. Historical parallels like Hitler’s Sudetenland thrust or the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 are useful up to a point but ultimately irrelevant. There is however, a historical precedent of uncanny similarity and predictive power that has remained largely unmentioned in the ocean of ink already spilled on the Ukrainian crisis. It’s also a precedent that is about to prove philosopher George Santayana right when he said

The Pentagon may be spending hundreds of thousands of dollars studying Vladimir Putin’s body language in order to “better predict [his] actions,” but Putin does not need a study to read President Obama’s body language. While more Russian forces were pouring into Crimea this past weekend, and Russian legislators announced their readiness to annex the Ukrainian province, where was our commander in chief? Monitoring events in the Situation Room? Meeting with the Joint Chiefs at the Pentagon? Holding an emergency meeting of NATO leaders? Nope. President Obama talks, talks, talks about jobs. The first 20 minutes of his State of the Union address in January was all about jobs. Immigration reform would “create jobs for everybody,” he said. His energy policy “is creating jobs.” Obama said he’s assigned Vice President Biden to make sure training programs match workers with “good jobs that need to be filled right now.” Last week he described his new budget as “a road map for creating jobs.” Yet for all the talk, his record on jobs is pathetic. It raises this question: Does the president have a clue about what

It took zero-point-zero seconds for that quote to become precisely the sort of rallying point that Republican incumbents would probably rather their opponents not have. The Tea Party-versus-establishment war has rarely been articulated as plainly as in McConnell´s comments.
