Up to two feet of snow predicted
this weekend in East Coast as
region braces for potentially
historic powerful Nor´easter

Daily Mail [UK], by Staff

Original Article

A potentially historic Nor’easter is churning its way toward the Northeast with potential hurricane force wind gusts and blizzard conditions dumping as much as two feet of snow in some places on Friday and Saturday. While the actual trajectory for the storm is still unknown, New York City could get around 10 inches and Boston could get slammed with as much as two feet with winds gusts up to 55 mph. A blizzard watch is now in effect starting Friday morning for much of Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island with travel not recommended amid fears of dangerous white out conditions

Comments:
Weather graphic aficionados rejoice. There are enough to satisfy your withdrawal symptoms--and a contest between the NWS and the Euro forecasts too! Plenty to keep you going after you´ve prepared for any eventualities and brought in enough wood for the stove. After you´ve reassured yourself on the whereabouts of your children, please check on your pets. Yeah, I know, most of you do that first but it can be easy to get busy and overlook some things while you´re awaiting a "potentially historic, powerful Nor´easter."

Are ALL storms going to be historic now? And is it just me or has the Weather Channel jumped the shark by naming non-tropical winter storms. I guess I´ll have to stop watching them now too.

Potentially, this potentially historic storm has hte potential to be historic.

That being said, historically, all potentially historic storms generate historic pre-storm comments as to the possibility of historic-ness and
potential-ness.

Or as we say in the Midwest: Jeez, you´d think it had never snowed out east before this...........´

Let´s see, in Mass. in 2011, we had about six feet of snow feet of snow in January and February; a flood in April; a tornado on June 1 that killed four people, injured several hundred, and destroyed four towns; an earthquake (no damage); Hurricane Irene; and the Halloween snowstorm (several deaths, considerable damage, no power for two weeks in some places. We coped. Nobody whined. But thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement.

I think the storm they are comparing this potential one to happened Feb 5-7 1978. It had hurricane force winds accompanying the 2 or more feet of snow. So I wouldn´t get so cocky folks, since there are still areas struggling to recoup from the Sandy storm.

Some Sandy victims are still living in tents. They have been pretty much ignored by the MSM and FEMA. A couple feet of snow is the icing on the cake.

Snow in New England. What a concept! I´d take some snow right now in NW Arkansas. Beaver Lake/White River is so low there are points you can walk across in just mud.
Hope it´s not bad up there with power outages and such. Will keep you Yanks in my prayers.

Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Larry Page of Google both strongly denied giving unfettered access to user data to U.S. officials, but it turns out both companies have, in fact, cooperated with governments requests. Zuckerberg denied his company´s link to secret government data-sharing scheme PRISM on Friday in a blustery posted message that described allegations that Facebook gave ´US or any other government direct access to our servers´ as ´outrageous.´ Now, sources tell the New York Times that both Facebook and Google discussed plans to create secure portals for the government ´like a digital version of the secure physical rooms

Barack Obama has ordered senior intelligence officials to compile an overseas target list for U.S. cyber attacks. An unpublished presidential directive obtained by the Guardian reveals America plans to step up its cyber offensive capability in a bid to ´advance US national objectives around the world´. The news comes as Obama prepares to tackle the contentious issue of cybersecurity with China President Xi Jinping at day two of a summit in California today. The top secret Presidential Policy Directive 20, issued in October, outlines Offensive Cyber Effects Operations (OCEO) which can have ´subtle to severely damaging´ impacts on adversaries.

Over the piercing blasts of gunfire in the shooting range, Strain´s instructor, Dan Blackford, patiently directed her on how to use her thumb to shove a shell all the way inside the barrel and feel it click. "Now we got a round in the chamber ready to go," Blackford said as he positioned her body on the right way to hold the shotgun. Canadian researchers have found that high-fructose corn syrup can cause behavioral reactions in rats ´similar to those produced by drugs of abuse, such as cocaine´. Professor Francesco Leri of the University of Guelph, who carried out the research, said it suggested there was an addictive quality to foods that contain high levels of high-fructose corn syrup which could explain, at least partly, the current global obesity epidemic. During the experiment, rats were fed foods containing varying levels of high-fructose corn syrup. They were then given access to a lever which controlled how much syrup they received. TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— The courtyard outside the Bradford County Courthouse in north Florida will soon become home to a monument to atheism. This small county has reached a deal to let a national organization install a 1,500-pound granite bench near an existing Ten Commandments monument that prompted a lawsuit after it was installed last year. The bench will include quotes from Thomas Jefferson, as well as Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Madalyn Murray O´Hair, the founder of American Atheists. It will also include a list of Old Testament punishments for violating the Ten Commandments, including death and stoning.
