Is Marco Rubio
the new darling of
the liberal commentariat?

Power Line, by Paul Mirengoff

Original Article

Posted By:Dreadnought, 2/6/2013 10:27:15 PM

Marco Rubio has been tapped to give the Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union address. Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post takes the occasion to declare Rubio “first-among-equals when it comes to the future leaders of the party.” Thanks, Chris, but I think the Republican rank-and-file will make that determination, not liberal political reporters. To appreciate the weakness of Cillizza’s claim, let’s recall the Republicans who have delivered the previous responses to Obama’s State of the Union address. They are: Mitch Daniels (2012), Paul Ryan

The liberal media always does that with Republicans and gives the Republicans enough rope to hang themselves at the right time.

Rubio appeals to the working latino families... unlike Obama´s radicals.

At this point,I trust Rubio and am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on his immigration plan.Although the concept of forgiveness here sends the wrong message.

I mean obviously, every one in this country illegally should be sent packing and have them apply for visas the way people in other countries have to.People in other countries can´t swim 3000 miles and casually blend in once they get here like mexican border bangers do.

Immigration is just another political football to paint republicans as racists.I think it´s a brilliant idea for Rubio to give the response in Spanish and that´s why someone like Cizilla is freaking out. This is what I mean about republicans becoming more progressive but not in a liberal sense, just keeping up with the times while sticking with principles.

Make no mistake about it,Rubio´s immigration plan completely caught Obama off guard and preempted him on the issue,he´s now flailing around about it.

The funny part about this whole discussion is that illegals would be better off staying illegal. If they became citizens, they might have to start paying taxes like everybody else.

There´s billions of uncollected taxes from these wage earners and that´s why they can work for a lower dollar amount.Employers love it because it´s a lot less paper rwork and they don´t have to pay the FICA tax, workman´s comp, unemployment fund etc.

If they get too cozy trying to set up the next contestant on the 2016 liberal scam, run away!

Count Polly Lower among those who quit their jobs because of the health-care law. It happened in September, when her boss abruptly changed her job description. She went from doing payroll, which she liked, to working on her boss’s schedule, which she loathed. At another time, she might have had to grit her teeth and accept the new position because she needed the health benefits. But with the health-care law soon to take effect, she simply resigned — and hasn’t looked back. “It was wonderful. It was very freeing,” said Lower, 56, of Bourbon, Ind., who is now babysitting her

The emergence of Twitter as a social media goliath has unleashed gossip and speculation as a media force. The long term consequences are unknowable, but in the meantime, with a far left president with a dicey past, it is producing some highly amusing results. Last night, President Obama explained to Bob Costas of NBC Sports why he wasn´t attending the Sochi Olympics, but the substance of what he had to say was lost in the controversy that erupted on Twitter over whether or not he was stoned. Yahoo writer Mike Oz took the high road, as would nearly any journalist, and described the president as looking "sleepy."

CENTENNIAL, Colo. -- The death of the chief of the American Title Co., under investigation by state insurance regulators, was a suicide, the Arapahoe County, Colo., coroner said. Richard Talley, 57, was found dead in the garage of his Centennial, Colo., home, earlier this week, the result of self-inflicted wounds from a nail gun, the Denver Post reported Friday. Talley, and the company he founded and led as chief executive officer, are under investigation by the Colorado Division of Insurance, a part of the state Department of Regulatory Agencies which regulates title companies, an agency spokesman confirmed Thursday. NBC whitewashed Russia´s communist legacy in the lead segment of its Friday broadcast of the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Sochi. Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage narrated the network´s lionization of the largest country by land mass: "Russia overwhelms. Russia mystifies. Russia transcends. Through every stage of its story, it´s resisted any notion of limitation. Through every re-invention, only redoubling its desire to cast a towering presence." However, Dinklage continued with a glorification of the Marxist-Leninist totalitarian state that slaughtered tens of millions of people between 1917 and 1991:

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The warm-up act for President Obama’s speech here Friday featured a four-piece jazz band playing in front of a John Deere tractor. Obama’s quest to bring together two other disparate elements — Democrats and Republicans — was not as successful. The president traveled to this middle-American college town to tout the passage of a $1 trillion farm bill this week, a rare bipartisan achievement by Congress that the president was eager to highlight. Six congressional Democrats flew aboard Air Force One — but none of the two dozen Republicans invited by Obama showed up. House Agriculture

Barack Obama, the first president shaped by the celebratory culture in which every child who plays soccer gets a trophy and the first whose campaign speeches were his qualification for the office, perhaps should not be blamed for thinking that saying things is tantamount to accomplishing things, and that good intentions are good deeds. So, his presidency is useful after all, because it illustrates the perils of government run by believers in magic words and numbers. The last progressive president promised Model Cities, with every child enjoying a Head Start en route to enjoying an Upward Bound into a Great

It should have been a glorious week for AOL chief executive Tim Armstrong. His company’s quarterly earnings, announced Thursday, were the best in a decade. “Olympian,” he declared. Instead, he angered employees, insulted parents with sick babies and shined a light on a practice seeping its way into corporate America that threatens to rob workers of thousands of dollars in 401(k) savings. The strange turn of events began Tuesday, when employees began learning that AOL was switching its 401(k) match to an annual lump sum, rather than distributing the money throughout the year with every paycheck as it had done

Not exactly what you’d expect given the extravagant — and incessant — claims you hear made about the miraculous effects of antioxidants. In fact, they are either useless or harmful, conclude the editors of the prestigious Annals of Internal Medicine: “Beta-carotene, vitamin E and possibly high doses of vitamin A supplements are harmful.” Moreover, “other antioxidants, folic acid and B vitamins, and multivitamin and mineral supplements are ineffective for preventing mortality or morbidity due to major chronic diseases.”

House Republicans believe they can expand the field of battleground seats in the November midterm elections, following the struggled rollout for President Obama’s new health-care law and his own sagging popularity. Despite signs that barely one in 10 House seats are competitive, the National Republican Congressional Committee recently commissioned polls in four Democratic seats that are not currently on any political strategist’s radar, finding Obama deeply unpopular in several districts with a normal tilt toward Democrats. “Republicans have the opportunity to expand the playing field and stay on offense in 2014,” Liesl Hickey, executive director of the NRCC, wrote in

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration’s Iran deal came under pressure on three fronts in Congress today: from the Democratic author of the sanctions bill who vowed to “not yield” under the White House’s veto threats, from Senate Republicans leaning on Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to bring that bill to the floor, and from one lawmaker asking President Obama if he planned to get Congress’ approval to undo existing sanctions law. It is one of the most common - albeit, ineptly used - elements of the English language. Now, an American academic has suggested that the comma could be abolished as a punctuation mark. Professor John McWhorter claims removing commas from most modern U.S. texts would cause ´little loss of clarity´ - meaning they may now be in a state of obsolescence. He adds that internet users are becoming increasingly carefree in their use of the punctuation mark - with some professional writers following suit, according to The Times. ´[You] could take them out of a great deal of modern American

TWENTY-ONE years ago, when I first heard Mia Farrow had accused me of child molestation, I found the idea so ludicrous I didn’t give it a second thought. We were involved in a terribly acrimonious breakup, with great enmity between us and a custody battle slowly gathering energy. The self-serving transparency of her malevolence seemed so obvious I didn’t even hire a lawyer to defend myself. It was my show business attorney who told me she was bringing the accusation to the police and I would need a criminal lawyer. Appearing on MSNBC, former Secretary of State Colin Powell savaged the Republican Party of which he says he is still a member for catering to “elements” that are overtly hostile to people of other races or nationalities. Powell told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell that there are groups within the GOP who “demonize people who don’t look like the way they’d like them to look.” He added that, for this reason, he believes the GOP needs him more than the Democratic Party needs him. Speaking with Mitchell about the need for immigration reform, Powell said that reforming the system was critical. “We are

A private girls´ school in Northern California wanted to incorporate Black History Month into lunch time, so it decided to serve fried chicken, watermelon, and cornbread. As the Associated Press reports, school officials are apologizing because that was a really, really horrible idea. The school´s principal wrote a letter to parents, who were offended, and said the school doesn´t "perpetrate racial stereotypes." Unfortunately, that´s exactly what they did. In honor of Black History Month, we´d like to explain exactly why your fried chicken and watermelon lunch is ill-advised, with the hope that people will find better ways to honor this

Geraldo Rivera took on Bill O’Reilly Friday night over whether O’Reilly was disrespectful to President Obama in their big Super Bowl interview. Rivera gave O’Reilly some benefit of the doubt, but other than that thought O’Reilly was a bit too confrontational and didn’t give Obama the kind of respect a president normally deserves. Rivera argued it was less like an interview and more like a meeting of the minds with the “President of Most of the White Guys of America” (O’Reilly) against the president of the rest of the country, and told O’Reilly that it was out of line for him

But I guess I´m kind of curious: Is there much of a case to be made for anyone other than Paul Ryan? On the substantive side, Ryan sure seems like he´s setting himself up for a run. There´s his steady series of "unheralded" anti-poverty outreach trips that always manage to be just heralded enough to get sympathetic press coverage.
