After nearly 81 years together,
Connecticut couple recognized
as ‘longest married’ in U.S.

One Fairfield, Conn., couple is receiving an early Valentine´s Day gift: recognition as the “longest-married” couple in the United States. John and Ann Betar have been married since Nov. 25, 1932, and this year will mark their 81st wedding anniversary. The award does not mean the couple is the longest married in the country; it means they have been together longer than all others nominated in the past year. John is 101 years old, and Ann is 97. The couple have five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Hearty congratulations to John and Ann and take a look at the little lesson they provide in the evolution in American demographics. John and Ann had five children; their children averaged almost three children each; and their children´s children averaged just above one child each.

G-d bless them.

I just hope the media leaves them to live in peace instead of schlepping them to every talk show on TV or constantly showing up to interview these old people.

HONOLULU- President Barack Obama, hopeful of some rest and relaxation after a bruising year in politics, wasted little time getting his golf game in gear on the first full day of a two-week end-of-year family vacation to his home state of Hawaii. The first golfer hit the links early Saturday afternoon at a Marine Base course on the Mokapu Peninsula, a golf-club shaped piece of land jutting into the Pacific Ocean not far from the Obamas´ rented holiday house. Onlookers lined up along the road to catch a glimpse of the president´s motorcade en route to the links. A smiling

Federal intelligence officials are declassifying eight documents about the origins of controversial surveillance systems created under former President George W. Bush. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) announced on Saturday that it had declassified the court documents dating from 2007 to this year, which the federal government had used to justify keeping the surveillance program secret. Details about the data collection unveiled by former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden have raised alarms about the practice. The new disclosures are part of a long-running lawsuit from a civil liberties group, the Electronic Frontier Foundation. They were ordered

As the final maneuver in that plan, the President is releasing several reports on how Obamacare will affect the states. His message: repealing Obamacare will just be too expensive. "These state reports mark the culmination of a multi-week effort by the White House and supporters of reform to bring a renewed refocus on each of these benefits and what the cost of repealing them would mean," a White House official told reporters at The Hill. Obamacare supporters crafted these reports to

The wrecking ball swung again toward the crumbling Obamacare edifice yesterday. Ironically, it continues to be the Obama administration that is operating the heavy machinery. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced, in the form of a letter to Democratic senators, that Obamacare’s individual mandate tax will be waived in 2014 for persons who had their policies canceled in 2013 due to Obamacare. At this point, after months of on-the-fly pronouncements, delays, and exemptions (often announced, not coincidentally, in the days just before a major national holiday), perhaps nothing should surprise us anymore about Obamacare’s disastrous rollout. But yesterday’s announcement

The Robertson family of "Duck Dynasty" fame has rallied around its patriarch, saying his controversial comments on homosexuality are "grounded in the teachings of the Bible." But Scripture is fiercely contested ground, and some experts say Phil Robertson misinterprets a key Bible verse. A&E, the network that broadcasts the hugely popular "Duck Dynasty" show, suspended Robertson for a now infamous interview with GQ magazine. In the article, Robertson, who became a born-again Christian in the 1970s after a prodigal youth, is asked to define "sin." The A&E Network’s suspension of Phil Robertson, star of the most popular reality show in the history of television, for espousing views on homosexuality identical to those found in the New Testament may not be the first PC lynching in the history of our country, but it is certainly now the most prominent. It is also a singular example of how political correctness, via cultural relativism, is used to undermine democracy and freedom of speech and is, at its core, fascistic. Yes, I just used the f-word and quite deliberately. PC and cultural relativism are the godchildren of Martin Heidegger
