| In January, the New York State Legislature passed the Orwellian-sounding "SAFE" (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement) Act. The act was debated in closed session without committee hearings, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed it into law within an hour of its passage(snip)The statute criminalizes, potentially criminalizes, or places under state surveillance even the most innocuous, banal, and pedestrian forms of gun ownership, and it restricts the right of self-defense.

Two can play this game. Everyone should "lose" a round of ammo somewhere, somehow. We all must report such losses, correct? Then have 500,000 law abiding SAFE Act followers obey! He he he!

This thing would have started a revolution back any time during the 1800´s. It would have had folks marching on Albany any time before 1950, and even in the 1960´s would have gotten folks out into the streets.
Now, we shake our heads...
It needs to be legally challenged. It should fold like a sheet of wet newspaper.

It pains me to say this, but if Cuomo and Law Enforcement follow through and start arresting folks and confiscating their firearms, there will be blood.

These are folks who were given less than one day´s notice about a dog and pony show run by the New York State Police and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice in the middle of the day, in the middle of the work week, to "answer" questions about the so-called "SAFE Act".
That said, the meeting hall (a library in Erie County, just outside of Buffalo) was packed to the gills. Cuomo´s lackeys had no answers for the questions. Further, if you watch the longer video, you will see a representative explain that ammunition purchases were to be registered and tracked so as to "prevent another Newton." In other words, you purchase a couple thousands of rounds of ammo - it sets off bells in Albany and you will be getting a visit from Law Enforcement. To which the citizens asked, "Ever carry 6,000 rounds of ammunition? You can´t." Then a target shooter stated he fired over 500 rounds per weekend (which is hardly an extreme number to any shooter), and, as per the law, he will be viewed with suspicion for simply purchasing ammunition.
Again, I beg you all to watch this video. I also hope the gun grabbers watch this video, this way they will understand that trying to unlawfully repeal the Second Amendment in the dead of night, and deeming law abiding citizens felons will not come without a very high cost.

It´s one thing for President Obama to be cocky and overstate his prowess at governing. People are used to politicians grabbing credit, and besides, you can always rationalize when it comes to explaining why things didn´t quite work out as you claimed they would - "the sequester ate my recovery" being the latest successful-enough example. But sports is something else. The basketball either goes through the hoop or it doesn´t. That´s why President Obama´s history of braggadocio regarding his prowess at hoops is having a potent effect on his overall public image, especially with those who are favorably inclined to him.

Over at Salon, Chris Stedman, the Assistant Humanist Chaplain and the Values in Action Coordinator for the Humanist Community at Harvard, has published a vicious piece attacking me for calling attention to the persecution of gays under Islamic law. This comes just days after San Francisco´s Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution condemning my ads standing up for gays. During his two day flurry of fundraising in Northern California, the President of the United States took it upon himself (and allow to be released to the public - not all of his fundraising comments make it to the masses) to praise the attractiveness of Kamala Harris, California Attorney General (snip) The remark, predictably, generated a little of what Allahpundit called a ´Blue on blue food fight." I suspect that was the intention. The president´s image as a manly man took a beating when he missed 20 of 22 basketball shots, all recorded on video.

The CEO of Starbucks basically told a shareholder that if the shareholder believes in traditional marriage he should dump his Starbucks stock. Historically the job of the CEO has been to make money and increase shareholder value. It would seem telling people who don´t share the CEO´s personal beliefs, whether it´s gay marriage or abortion, to dump the companies stock is not a pro-shareholder action. This is another example of the liberal belief that everything belongs to liberals because they´re just so darn much smarter than the rest of us

The Great State of Indiana is about to test statewide school choice on a meaningful scale. In the girl section of the Wall Street Journal last weekend Matt Ridley had an article on nice vs. nasty, cooperation vs. competition. Researchers have found, he writes, that families that stay together cooperate better than families that are far apart. This is not the first work to find mathematical evidence that there are conditions under which cooperative behavior drives out selfish behavior... So long as there is little geographic mobility, clusters of networked kin and friends develop, putting an advantage on being nice. Who knew?

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs.
