The White House has released a photograph of President Obama skeet shooting at Camp David -- some proof for critics skeptical about whether Obama, amid efforts to tighten gun control, saying he takes target practice at the presidential retreat and that he has a “profound respect” of the tradition of hunting. The official photo apparently depicts Obama – wearing protective glasses and earmuffs -- firing the shotgun Aug. 4, 2012. It was released Friday on the White House’s Flickr account.
Comments: Photo Shop? or Re-Dated, shades of Birth Certificate
Skeet shooters wear a vest to carry their ammo, their spent shells, and to cushion against the recoil of the shotgun. Skeet shooters typically don´t stand straight up, they lean forward just a little. The President can shoot skeet any way he wants to, as any rich guy with his personal skeet range, but the photo has a staged look. Go to any skeet range and see what I´m talking about.
$10 says he heard the Secret Service detail out there, wandered out, and said, "Hey guys, can I try that?" ... and the response was, well, muted. "Uh... sure, Mr. President... now here´s all you have to do..."
Yes, the big o is left handed. That was made clear to all us serfs when he signed something really important in front of those moving picture boxes. BTW, in addition to the skeet he shoots, he fires at duck decoys too with seldom missing a one.
I could care less if he did or didn´t fire a weapon, if he respects hunting, if he shoots skeet. Gun control isn´t about hunting. It´s about deterring my ability to defend the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness bestowed upon me by my creator, my god. No man has the right to do that.
Very awkward looking photo. Notice how high on his shoulder the butt of the gun sits. This would guarantee you a bruised shoulder.
Something wrong about this. Something staged or not a photo of him shooting skeet. If the WH has faked something here then they are really stupid. Something will come out in spite of the MSM. Ask Dan Rather.
The most interesting part of the photo, for me, is his sighting plane and the location of the butt of the gun. Those of you who know how to shoot a shotgun know what I mean. This is the skeet shooting equivalent of the kenyan klown riding his girlie bike with his helmet on.
A cheesy - and clearly staged - stunt intended for the consumption of low information voters, i.e., stupid people.
Many previous posters on this thread got the phoniness of this just right: dark glasses, standing up too straight, firing downrange, no vest. He probably got off one round for the cameras and called it a day. At least he didn´t ask, in a really butch voice, "Where can I get me a huntin´ license?" like John Fraud Kerry.
Never saw a clay shooter with that kind of stance, gun holding technique, etc. It doesn´t look like that gun fits his shoulder very well, either. It screams FAKE! He probably holds his pistol sideways.
As his wife admitted, he no like shooting so it´s probably staged sometime in the summer unless they are so conceited they did a blue screen shot and photoshopped in the background and the smoke. The shadows seems all wrong...
Look up ´camp david´ in google map satellite mode. The skeet/trap range is at the very bottom left (S/E) corner of the compound.
Obviously photoshopped. But wait, isn´t Bronco Bama now subject to getting a case of the gun cooties, from even LOOKING like he had been firing a gun? Why, that infection may even seep into his finger and up his arm, wouldn´t THAT be a disaster?
First, what editor let this article go to ´press´? He´s not wearing ´ear muffs´. That´s hearing protection. ´Ear muffs´ keep your ears warm during winter.
And then this: "The back-and-fourth about whether the ....." ´Fourth´? Are they all using Dragon Dictation software instead of typing these articles?
Lastly, he had to look manly on guns. He couldn´t choose hunting. Nobody would believe it. Skeet and trap shooting is an Olympic sport and, therefore, manly as well as cosmopolitan. He ´satisfies´ both sides by doing this.
And to think we had a Revolution over an increased tax on tea.
It is time we regain our Republic. My sincere hope is that the tree of liberty isn´t thirsty.
This photo is a good example of the generalized Obama failure to surround himself with informed people.
If he was going to get his picture taken shooting skeet, he should have had a real skeet shooter on hand to get him into the right clothing, hold the gun the right way and in the right direction, and have him shoot 8 or 10 rounds before the picture is taken so he relaxes a bit.
If he had done all that, he would have developed a better understanding and respect for target shooters in general AND he might have realized that skeet shooting can be fun.
Having power is not the same thing as being a real man.
A new wave of veterans were forced to move barricades at the WWII Memorial in Washington Wednesday morning to gain access during the government slimdown, a spokeswoman from Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., told FoxNews.com. The WWII veterans, from Ohio, Kansas and Missouri, arrived at the memorial one day after another group relied on the assistance from elected officials to move the barricades to allow access. Parks police did not prevent the first group from entering, nor did they interfere with Wednesday´s group.
The principal of Concord Carlisle High School in Boston issued an apology Wednesday after a Muslim poem was recited over the intercom on the 12th anniversary of 9/11, and the Pledge of Allegiance was not. According to principal Peter Badalament, a “small number” of people were outraged at the poem, which was meant to promote “cross-cultural understanding,” (Skip) Mohja Kahf’s “My Grandmother Washes Her Feet in the Sink of the Bathroom at Sears,” tells a granddaughter’s account of watching her grandmother adhere to the religious Muslim custom of washing her feet five times a day
Anti-Islam pastor Terry Jones was released from a Florida jail on Thursday after his arrest on a felony charge stemming from his plan to burn more than 2,000 Korans to mark the 12th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. Jones, 61, was arrested on Wednesday along with Marvin Wayne Sapp Jr., an associate pastor at his small evangelical Christian church in Gainesville, on charges that included carrying dangerous material in an improper container, authorities said. The hazardous material charge is a third-degree felony, a spokeswoman for the Polk County Sheriff´s Office said
A lawyer for Army Pvt. Chelsea Manning said in a blog post on Thursday the soldier is doing well as she goes through processing at the military prison at Fort Leavenworth. David Coombs wrote that he spoke on Wednesday with Manning, previously known as Bradley Manning, while she goes through the three-to-four-week period known as indoctrination at the Kansas prison. Coombs, who lives in Rhode Island, also said he plans to travel there in the coming weeks to meet with medical staff and the leadership in the quest to allow Manning to receive hormone therapy and other treatment for her gender
Journalist Michael Hastings, who was killed in a fiery Los Angeles crash in June, died of "traumatic injuries" as a result of the accident and had traces of drugs in his system, Los Angeles coroner´s officials said Tuesday. Hastings, 33, died June 18 in a single-vehicle accident. His car burst into flames and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner´s officials said Hastings had traces of amphetamine in his system, consistent with possible intake of methamphetamine many hours before death, as well as marijuana. Neither were considered a factor in the crash, according to toxicology reports.
Turkish riot police using tear gas and water cannon battled protesters for control of Istanbul´s Taksim Square, hours after Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan demanded an immediate end to 10 days of demonstrations. Istanbul Governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu appeared on television, declaring that police operations would continue day and night until the square, focus of demonstrations against Erdogan, was cleared. Police fired volleys of tear gas canisters into a crowd of thousands - people in office clothes as well as youths in masks who had fought skirmishes throughout the day - scattering them into side streets and nearby hotels.
A Democratic campaign office here usually would be quiet this time of year, a few weeks after the state´s legislature wrapped up work and lawmakers headed off to summer vacations. But even though it´s not an election year, the office is in full campaign mode, with volunteers working the phones and reviewing maps in anticipation of a new front of modern campaigning -- the recall phase. A handful of Democratic state lawmakers in Colorado face recall petition efforts in what looks to be the first wave of fallout over legislative votes to limit gun rights.
President Barack Obama will join New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Tuesday for a tour of the Jersey Shore damaged by Superstorm Sandy, replaying a scene from last year that some observers believe helped Obama win re-election. Christie, a Republican, gave Obama, a Democrat, blunt praise (Snip "I cannot thank the president enough for his personal concern and his compassion," Christie said during an October 31 tour together of the damaged areas. Though Christie supported the Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, in the 2012 race, his compliments to the Democratic incumbent were seen as a boost to Obama.
The farm state of Michoacan is burning. A drug cartel that takes its name from an ancient monastic order has set fire to lumber yards, packing plants and passenger buses in a medieval-like reign of terror. The Knights Templar cartel is extorting protection payments from cattlemen, lime growers and businesses such as butchers, prompting some communities to fight back, taking up arms in vigilante patrols. Lime picker Alejandro Ayala chose to seek help from the law instead. After the cartel forced him out of work by shutting down fruit warehouses, he and several dozen co-workers, escorted by Federal Police
President Obama plans to open a new phase in the nation’s long struggle with terrorism on Thursday by restricting the use of unmanned drone strikes that have been at the heart of his national security strategy and shifting control of them away from the C.I.A. to the military. In his first major speech on counterterrorism of his second term, Mr. Obama hopes to refocus the epic conflict that has defined American priorities since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and even foresees an unspecified day when the so-called war on terror might all but end, according to people briefed
President Obama holds a brief news conference Monday morning with British Prime Minister David Cameron, but he is likely to be asked about pressing domestic issues: Benghazi and the IRS. As Republicans call for a select committee to investigate the administration over the Sept. 11 attack on a diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, Obama and his aides must also deal with reports that the Internal Revenue Service targeted conservative groups. Obama and Cameron are scheduled to face the press at 11:15 a.m. in the White House Rose Garden. Obama has not commented publicly on the IRS (Snip)
An ice wave flowing from Millie Lacs Lake in Minnesota has been captured on amateur video, showing an expanding wave of frozen water engulfing gardens and threatening people´s homes. The video was filmed by Darla Johnson on Saturday morning and shows the wave of ice visibily advancing on her house near Millie Lacs Lake in the northern state of Minnesota. The peculiar phenomenon is caused by high winds pushing ice off the surface of a lake. Over the weekend, a 29ft wall of ice from a lake just over the border in Canada destroyed at least 12 homes
The federal government lost its checkbook at midnight, and it may not find it for days or weeks. As the zero-hour drew closer on Monday, with other avenues exhausted, the White House´s Office of Management and Budget told federal agencies that they ´should now execute plans for an orderly shutdown due to the absence of appropriations.´ House Republican leaders on the Rules Committee had discussed the procedures for both parties to appoint ´conferees´--negotiating representatives--for a joint House-Senate conference committee empowered to hash out a compromise of the budget battle that has consumed Washington for days. The House GOP scrambled all
Get ready for Chelsea Clinton Bump Watch 2014 — the only daughter of the former president and former secretary of State is declaring next year the “Year of the Baby.” In an interview for the November issue of Glamour magazine on her work with the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, Clinton reveals that she and husband Marc Mezvinsky are planning for a bouncing addition to their household. According to the 33-year-old Oxford grad, the pair, who married in 2010, sat down together a year after tying the knot and made a list focused on their future, saying, “We want,
Today, more than three and a half years after the Democrats passed Obamacare into law, the overhaul’s exchanges — its East German–like government marketplaces — will finally, sort of, open for business. The Democrats fully expect their fellow Americans to be so excited about buying government-approved insurance through these government-run exchanges that they’re choosing to shut down the government rather than delay the individual mandate for a year. Better to shut down the government, it would seem, than let Americans freely decide — even for a year — whether or not to buy Obamacare-based insurance. Alas, the individual mandate’s penalties
First lady Michelle Obama tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that her Twitter account will see fewer updates due to the government shutdown. Due to Congress’s failure to pass legislation to fund the government, updates to this account will be limited. #Shutdown 12:55 PM - 1 Oct 2013. In 2009, FactCheck.org found that the first lady had a staff of 24 people. It is unclear whether any of the first lady’s staff have been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown.
The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday. Palazzo helped the veterans commit an act of civil disobedience against the Park Service Tuesday, when the heroes stormed through barricades around the closed memorial. The veterans were visiting the memorial as part of Honor Flight, a non-profit that provides veterans free transport to the nation’s capital to visit the memorials to the wars they fought in. “We got the heads up
“We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” — Barack Obama, October 30, 2008 “We are going to have to change our conversation; we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history; we’re going to have to move into a different place as a nation.” — Michelle Obama, May 14, 2008 There certainly is no question that Barack Obama wants to change the United States. And there clearly is no doubt that such fundamental transformation is difficult, given our tripartite system of government — even though Obama entered office with large Democratic majorities in
Ronan Farrow’s ol’ blue eyes may say it all. Farrow, long described as the only biological child of actress Mia Farrow and New York filmmaker Woody Allen, may actually be the son of Frank Sinatra, his mom acknowledged in a bombshell report Wednesday. While Hollywood has whispered about the prospect for years, it was the first time that Mia publicly admitted the possibility. Asked point-blank by Vanity Fair about Sinatra’s possible parentage of Ronan, Mia coyly replied: “Possibly.” The “Rosemary’s Baby’’ actress was married to Ol’ Blue Eyes from 1966 to 1968 but continued to be his lover on and off afterward — including
New York Magazine writer Jonathan Chait spent his government shutdown day mocking WWII veterans who were shut out by the National Park Service (NPS) when they came to visit the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. On Tuesday morning, Representative Michelle Bachman (R-MN) and several Republican members of Congress helped tear down the barricades shutting the elderly veterans out of the WWII memorial. After the barricades were removed, dozens of veterans flooded in to conduct their often emotional visits. But, thinking he was being funny, Chait took to Twitter to poke fun at the veterans, joking that the NPS should
On Tuesday evening, left-wing Politico ran a headline story encapsulating the theme of the day: “Government closed, Obamacare falters.” That message marked a massive loss for the Obama administration, which has claimed that Obamacare’s implementation could not be delayed, and used that rationale as an excuse to reject the House’s proposal for a one-year delay in favor of a government shutdown. The narrative began to shift early in the morning on Tuesday, when the Drudge Report ran a lead piece on the Obamacare health exchanges coming up with error messages for users across the country. “OBAMACRASH,” Drudge headlined. He followed
If President Obama were really clever, he’d jump at the Republicans’ proposal in the continuing resolution to delay Obamacare for one year. A one-year delay is perhaps the only chance to prevent the Obamacare exchanges from becoming a disaster. Don’t take my word for it. Here’s Kevin Counihan, chief executive of Connecticut’s exchange, Access Health CT: “It is highly complex , it’s unprecedented and it’s not going to be smooth…. This is a two- to three-year implementation we’re doing in 10 months. I wish we had one more year.” The problem is that the test runs have revealed the exchange websites aren’t
President Barack Obama has called off his trip to Malaysia to tackle the US government shutdown, the office of Malaysia´s PM Najib Razak has said. Secretary of State John Kerry will represent him next week instead, the office said. The US government has partially shut down after the two houses of Congress failed to agree a new budget. More than 700,000 federal employees face unpaid leave, and national parks, museums and many buildings are closed. Mr Obama earlier vowed not to allow Republicans to undermine his signature healthcare legislation as a condition to restart the US government. "They demanded ransom," Mr Obama said.
The government shutdown will temporarily slash the staffs and operations of every “nonessential” federal program — which, as you can imagine, adds up to a whole lot of programs. There are the ones you know about, like the national parks and the panda cam. Then there’s everything else. Here’s 21 effects of the shutdown you might not have heard about. 1) No one will oversee the program that makes sure your organic food is actually organic. That’s called the National Organic Standards Program, and its entire staff was furloughed. Also on the Department of Agriculture furlough list: the people who check
