An Alabama man holding a terrified young boy hostage in an underground bunker might not be giving up any time soon, authorities said. Police were negotiating through a 4-inch ventilation pipe with the man, believed to be Jimmy Lee Dykes, 65,a Vietnam veteran and retired truck driver with a wicked temper and a history of threatening neighbors. Authorities were tight lipped about the conversation with Dykes but said the hostage situation, which entered its fifth day on Saturday, might stretch on for a while. Dykes is holding a 5-year-old boy identified as Ethan

I do not think that talking to a reporter is really what the old killer wants, I think he wants to kill the child and then blame it on the media and he should be shot the minute he comes out - what a despicable creature it is and I shudder to think that there are probably more of them all over the USA.

They´re not in a house, #3 - they´re in a very small (approx. 6´x8´) underground bunker.
"Sleeping gas" as you call it would likely kill both the boy and the nutbag, as that sleeping gas would eventually (soon) cause suffocation.

Do any of our "hostage experts" remember the Chechen schoolhouse situation. The Russians pumped narcotic gas into the school. It killed half of the hostages. Some people watch too many "Mission Impossible" movies.

#8: that was actually the theater in Moscow. The Chechens took over a theater and held it for ... two days, IIRC. The Russians eventually pumped in gas and over two hundred hostages were killed by it. And those were adults.

The amount of gas needed to put the man to sleep would kill the child.

Keep praying.

Texas governor Rick Perry told late-night host Jimmy Kimmel that "America is a great place for second chances" when asked about running for president in 2016. Perry, appearing on Kimmel´s show Tuesday night while on location in Austin, teased the idea of running again after his failed 2012 bid. "Are you going to run for president again?" Kimmel asked, adding, "Obviously, maybe this isn´t the place you want to announce it." "It´s probably not the place I want to announce," said Perry. A Chinese satellite looking into the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 "observed a suspected crash area at sea," a Chinese government agency said -- a potentially pivotal lead into what has been a frustrating search for the Boeing 777. China´s State Administration for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense announced the discovery, including images of what it said were "three suspected floating objects and their sizes." The objects aren´t small at 13 by 18 meters (43 by 59 feet), 14 by 19 meters and 24 by 22 meters. The images were captured on March 9 -- which

To read about the Duke University freshman turned adult-film star is to feel nostalgic for the bygone age of dormitory parietals that barred the opposite sex from visiting the rooms of well-brought-up young ladies. Of course, such rules are an outmoded relic. Yet their demise exposes a truth about college students. They may no longer be minors but they remain more chrysalis than butterfly, not yet fully formed adults. No matter how smart, no matter how elite their college, their judgment is impaired — and not just when they’re drinking. They try on identities like so many discarded outfits before

The committee will meet for the third time on Friday, and though the group has not yet released an agenda, past meetings have heavily focused on climate change. You have probably seen all of the ridiculous speculating about the GOP nomination in 2016. This is still speculating, but my sincere hope is you don’t think it’s ridiculous too. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is laying the foundation for his presidential bid in concrete and steel. First, forget about Jeb Bush unless you want to hand Hillary eight years in the White House. The latest Rasmussen poll shows her leading Jeb in a general election 47 percent to 33. His name is Bush and to the general public the specifics of how smart he is doesn’t matter one iota.
