| WORCESTER - The Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester has rescinded an invitation to a speaker at a men´s conference after Muslims objected to what they call the speaker´s anti-Islamic views. The diocese on Wednesday withdrew an invitation for Robert Spencer to speak at the March conference. Spencer, a Catholic, runs blogs and has written books that some consider anti-Muslim. A spokesman for the diocese says Spencer´s appearance at the conference "is being seen as harmful to Catholic-Islamic relations." A spokesman for the Islamic Council of New England called Spencer a "hatemonger" and lauded the diocese´s decision.

The Muslims and the pusillanimous Catholics are right, but for the wrong reason.
Robert Spencer´s books are indeed harmful to Catholic-Islamic relations - but not because he is a hatemonger.
It is because he tells the truth about Islam. Islam is irreconcilably at odds with everything that is not Islam, beginning with the Catholic faith. I don´t think Spencer makes this claim. He simply reports the documented facts about Islam. Anyone acquainted with the facts knows that it is dangerous self-deluding nonsense to fantasize about a community of faith or anything else with the all-encompassing religio-political system called Islam.
The kind of denial and timidity displayed by these Catholics is becoming all too familiar in the West. It seems that in some quarters the West has lost the will to survive. These Catholics and others are descending a very slippery slope bit by bit. They do not seem to recognize that for Islam, there is no stopping point, no place of balance, compromise, or stable agreement about differences. The more the West gives, the more Muslims will demand.

There are few real Christians left in the north east. Every time I see a headline like this (regardless of the denomination), I know it is in the northeast (Massachusettes, Vermont, Delaware, etc, etc).
The only time I am wrong is when it turns out to be on the west coast (especially Cubafornia).
Secular lie-beralism is the only real religion in the north east part of our country any more...

The article is very short, but confusing. It´s a "men´s conference". Did I miss that it´s "interfaith"? Because if it´s not then the Islamic Council should have no say in whom they choose to speak.
Will the Catholic church or the ADL keep a watch on guest speakers for the ICofNE? They darn will should and they should make a huge stink if there´s a single controversial one invited.

It´s MA. The people here cater to the muslims. Our politicians, kerry being one of them, assisted the muslims in buying, dirt cheap, land in boston to build their mega mosque. Other benefits were also given. The saudis just about own harvard and remember the bin laden clan were evacuated from boston after 9/11. Does that explain some of this?

A Brooklyn federal judge has ordered the Food and Drug Administration to make the morning-after pill available to females of all ages without a prescription. Judge Edward Korman on Friday reversed the FDA´s 2011 decision limiting the over-the-counter availability of the emergency contraceptive known as Plan B to women 17 and older. He gave the agency 30 days to decide only whether the pills’ package should include additional labeling. The standards for determining whether a consumer can understand how to use an over-the-counter drug safely and effectively is the same for aspirin as it is for contraceptives, Korman noted.

PITTSBURGH - The U.S. Federal Reserve´s latest survey of regional economic trends is mentioning the Marcellus Shale natural gas boom. The Fed´s latest Beige Book issued Wednesday mentions that Pennsylvania banks see customers paying down loans with natural gas royalty money. In neighboring Ohio the Fed says shale gas activity is expanding at a robust pace, but some auto dealers are worried they´re lose technicians to energy companies. Economists say it´s interesting that bankers and other businesses in the northeast are mentioning shale gas.

Friday’s decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has major implications, because polar bears were the first species to be listed solely on the basis of threats to their survival from global warming. The D.C. appeals court affirmed a lower court ruling supporting the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s decision to put polar bears on the federal threatened list.

In the first attack, a car bomb targeted a building belonging to National Directorate of Security, near the city of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province, a government spokesman said. Assembly members voted 7-4 to allow the proposal to proceed to a public hearing on Feb. 26. North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
