| Below is a statement from the office of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel who sent letters to a number of mutual funds urging them to blacklist gun manufacturers who don’t support reform to gun laws. Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced that he is asking several mutual funds to divest and blacklist any gun manufacturers that oppose commonsense gun reforms. The Mayor’s letters sent to the mutual funds today come on the heels of his request last week to commercial banks asking them to stop providing financial services to gun companies that stand in the

Mayor Tutu needs to address the gun violence issues in his own city before strong-arming legitimate businesses. He gets a pass on, what was it, 400 murders in Chicago last year? It´s despicable.

Actually what people ought to do is do the exact same thing that Rahm Emanuel is recommending but to tell their mutual funds to divest themselves of any bonds they hold from the City of Chicago. That would stop this foolishness. Of course, to the extent that anybody actually still OWNS any bonds from the City of Chicago.

Maybe ol´ Rahm and his buddies are playing the market in these companies ... figuring they can buy up these shares cheap or profit off the clearance selling by mutual funds.
Kinda reminds me of when Texas counties would have elections to determine if liquor could be sold in the county. You could count on the local preachers to oppose the ratification on moral grounds. But often, their campaign would be financed by donations from the liquor store owners in adjacent counties, worried about the loss of profits from their neighbors in the dry county.

Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) said that the 14 Republican senators who have vowed to filibuster upcoming gun-control legislation “don’t care about protecting people in America from people who would do them harm with a gun.” “It’s disgusting and unconscionable,” Wasserman Schultz said on Piers Morgan Live last night, also calling it “immoral” and “cowardly.” Wasserman Schultz told Piers Morgan that “we have background checks in our grasp,” adding that such a big step seemed unthinkable to her after Gabby Giffords was shot in 2011. President Obama’s 2014 budget calls for a trillion dollars in new taxes, almost twice as much as previously thought, The Washington Examiner has learned. “Of the more than $1 trillion in new taxes, about $800 billion is raised through the individual income tax system, about $125 billion comes from new excise taxes — including new taxes on tobacco and financial companies,” a source familiar with the president’s budget explained. “The remainder comes from reverting back to the 2009 estate tax parameters and other miscellaneous tax increases.” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., described the budget as a

The most ominous trend in America´s employment data is not the number of people who have left the labor force, but the number who are now working either for the government or in the as-yet-still-private sector of the health care industry. Health care has boomed under Obama, according to data published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. When Obama was inaugurated in January 2009, there were 13,436,700 jobs in the private health care industry; by this March, there were 14,516,600. Over the past four years, America has created 1,079,900 new jobs in the private-sector health care industry.

Just over a week after sequestration took effect, the State Department allotted more than $700,000 for gardening at a U.S. Ambassador’s residence in Brussels, Belgium. On March 11, State awarded a contract to provide gardening services at an “official residence” of the U.S. Mission in Belgium. A State Department spokesperson confirmed to CNSNews.com that the contract is for Truman Hall, a historic property that serves at the residence of the Ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The current U.S. ambassador to NATO is Ivo H. Daalder, who was appointed by President Barack Obama in May 2009.

With the passing of Margaret Thatcher, we’ve lost not only one of conservatism’s heroes. We’ve lost one of the greatest figures of modern times, a woman who battled incredible odds to become prime minister, and then turned her country around after decades of decline. I had the honor of working for Lady Thatcher in her private office from 2000 to 2002. Like anyone who has had that privilege, I had the opportunity to observe firsthand how fully she dedicated her life to serving her country. She was a true leader in every sense of the word, and

Anti-Muslim views have often been promoted by Republican law-makers and GOP political operatives. In a recent survey by the Arab American Institute, Republican views toward Arab and Muslim-Americans were viewed with the greatest negativity by an overwhelming majority of those surveyed. In return, Muslims expressed unfavorable views towards evangelicals, neo-conservatives and the Republican Party. Sadly, only a small percentage of Muslims polled had favorable opinions of Republicans following the Bush Presidency. As expected, Democrats were viewed more positively by the Muslim community than Republicans, which highlights some significant parallels between the GOP’s questionable approach

The first lady will return to her hometown of Chicago on Wednesday for an event with Mayor Rahm Emanuel to speak about gun control, casting her in a leading role to push one of her husband’s top priorities. Since the “controversial” promo first appeared this past weekend, conservatives have been apoplectic over its content. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
