Heck, I was probably one of the more naive kids of my generation, and even I knew Jim Nabors was gay. (we didn´t call it that back then, what we did call it is left as an exercise for the student).

He and his friend ate at my family´s restaurant on St Thomas one day years ago. They were on a cruise and stopped in for lunch. My mom swooped in and made his acquaintance. He was wonderfully gracious and they would exchange Christmas cards every year. I still have a pic of him there. It was a huge deal for the family. He´s a great guy.

Everyone always knew it, and honestly no one cared. He didn´t rub your face in it, just lived his life. I think the overwhelming majority don´t care if someone is gay or not, they just don´t like having it rubbed in their faces constantly be overthetop activists.

I´m w/ 14 and 15. Nabors is no activist demanding special treatment, or anything else, he´s just living his life, and I respect that. I´m sure the "marriage" was strictly for financial purposes- blame the tax man. BTW, I believe there is no such thing as gay marriage. Marriage is between one man and one woman.

But, #16, if the purpose of such a so-called "marriage" is so that homosexual partners can leave their estates to one another, it is not true that they needed to force a change in the very meaning of the word "marriage" to accomplish that goal.

In a way this is a perfect example of why the GOP/RNC is losing ground. For the most part the gay marriage issue should be way down on the "To Do" list of conservatives. Its has been, and rightly so shifted to the states. Add to this the fact that it seems many conservatives like me see it for what it is, a needless distraction. The churches are responsible for allowing government to pry its nose into marriage issue in the first place. The proverbial deal with the devil.
These "issues" are allowing our elected officials distract us from the real issues we all face; the size of government, its run away spending, and its intrusion into our lives.
Until these issues are dealt with, nothing else really matters.

Everyone who watched was made aware by the show´s writers that, ´´Gomer,´´ was a little different in his thinking but he was loved for his kind & gentle spirit and the contributions he made to the happiness & unity of the town of, ´´Mayberry.´´ Andy, Barney & the good townspeople, -each of whom certainly had their own, er, ...´uniqueness´, reached out to help & encourage each other. Each one respected the others.
At this late date, 82 year old Nabors now would seem to be using Gomer´s scripted innocent personna to further his own personal political agenda. ...shameless

The public meeting in Manchester, Tenn., about 70 miles from Nashville, was supposed to address and tamp down discrimination toward Muslims there. But instead it turned into a shouting match. Bill Killian, the local U.S. attorney who organized the meeting, told the people in attendance that hate speech was not protected by the First Amendment. Over the last few years, there have been tensions between Muslims and many Christians in Tennessee. A Coffee County commissioner recently posted a picture on Facebook of a man with one eye looking down the sights of a shotgun, with the caption:

With a key Senate vote scheduled Tuesday, President Barack Obama sought to gain momentum for his top second-term legislative priority by urging Congress to pass a comprehensive immigration reform measure before the end of the summer, warning those who would oppose the bill that there is “no good reason to play procedural games or engage in obstruction.” “If you’re serious about actually fixing the system, then this is the vehicle to do it,” he said of the bipartisan bill, which the Senate is expected to take up formally today. As the Supreme Court prepares to once again weigh in on the issue of affirmative action, a record-low number of Americans support such programs, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. Just 45 percent of respondents said they believe affirmative action programs are still needed to counteract the effects of discrimination against minorities, while an equal 45 percent feel the programs have gone too far and should be ended because they unfairly discriminate against whites. (The poll was conducted May 30-June 2 and it has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.1 percentage points.)

Hong Kong -- U.S. authorities are preparing charges against Edward Snowden, the man who outed himself as the source of secret documents detailing government surveillance of telephone and Internet communications, a law enforcement source told CNN on Tuesday. The filing of charges is not imminent, however, the source said. Snowden, 29, is a former computer security contractor who acknowledged in a Guardian newspaper interview published Sunday that he gave classified documents about the programs to journalists. The FBI has been investigating the leaks, but it was unclear Tuesday how far along the agency was.

This is one of those “read the whole thing” stories. You have to, to get what Ed Bott at ZDNet is saying. The gist is that the Washington Post has quietly made major edits to its initial story about the NSA’s PRISM program, without acknowledging that any changes have been made at all. Many of the changes are stylistic, but many are factual. Such as, the allegation that nine major US tech firms have knowingly cooperated with NSA to the point of giving the agency direct access to their servers. The original story said:

Immigration wasn´t the main issue in the 2010 New Hampshire Senate race. But it was a topic of great interest for many Republican voters, and GOP candidate Kelly Ayotte took a pretty hard line. Rather than calling for comprehensive immigration reform, Ayotte stressed tightening border security and enforcing existing laws. "In the Senate, Kelly´s top immigration priority will be to secure our borders -- no excuses," said her campaign website. "Simultaneously, she will work to ensure that existing immigration laws are enforced, and is against amnesty."

The move reunites Tebow with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who was the Broncos' head coach when Denver traded into the first round to draft the Heisman Trophy winner in 2010. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick often has spoken with admiration for Tebow's versatility, intelligence and character. That didn’t take long. The official who leaked top-secret information about the National Security Agency’s surveillance programs to fight terrorism has now come forward in the pages of the Guardian to revel in his role “as one of America’s most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning.” Edward Snowden is described as a 29-year-old high school dropout who worked (ironically) on computer security for the CIA before becoming a highly paid contractor at Booz Allen, making a reported $200,000 a year working for the National Security Agency in Hawaii. The Guardian story presents him as a martyr

There is the man who claims to be a nonideological problem-solver, keen on working with anybody to fix things. And there is The One: the partisan, left-leaning progressive-redeemer. Mickey Kaus has produced an excellent, easy-to-use “pocket guide” to the reasons why the Schumer-Rubio immigration reform bill (S.744) is fraudulent. Kaus catalogues the provisions of the bill that promise tough future enforcement, etc. but don’t do what they pretend to do: “Multiple triggers” — Legalization is immediate. DHS just has to write border “plan.” The most any “triggers” can possibly do is delay green cards and citizenship. “90% effectiveness” — If not reached, triggers only toothless commission “Pay back taxes” — Only if already “assessed” by IRS (unlikely). Newly legalized may instead get refunds. “Learn English” — Only need to sign up

Edward Snowden burst in public view when the 29-year-old identified himself as the source of leaks about the National Security Agency’s surveillance of Americans. Here are 10 things to know about Snowden. 1. Doesn’t have a high school diploma. According to The Guardian, which published the first story about the NSA surveillance, Snowden never finished his high school coursework, taking classes at a community college in Maryland but not completing those, either. The paper reported he did obtain a GED later. 2. Donated to Ron Paul. Zeke Miller of Time reported that Snowden made two

Edward Snowden should go to jail, as quickly and for as long as possible. This is a leak case that should be difficult for even Eric Holder to bungle. Snowden has already confessed in public to the crime of leaking classified information. He has said in public how he did it, that he did it with intent, and that he knowingly harmed our national security. Holder will finally find a leaker that he can prosecute. But given the Holder Justice Department’s record on the other leak cases, who wants to take a bet
