Clearly, the writer is wrong in his assumption of the "detailed legislation" being such a difficult part, as they can make it as detailed as they want, but no one has to read it before it´s voted on, right? And then I also believe that he gives Marco Rubio a little too much credit in his "courage" to not buy into Obama´s plan if it doesn´t meet his principles. I don´t believe that for one second.

The initial step, or even the second step, must not be a legal permission, whether it be by green card or legal resident or whatever. Once that label has been applied, no one in authority is ever going to go back to follow up with them. We have to do a two-pronged set of first steps. One to make the border leak-proof (along with enforcement of detention and deportation laws already in existence); the second to get all who are here into a computer database. This one cannot be done quickly, but will take at least three years. There probably should be a grace period of six months or so. Until an illegally immigrated person is in the database, that person isn´t entitled to any benefits or even a job. Of course children born in the US to an illegal are citizens and entitled to anything any other citizen might be.

Reestablishing the old Guest Worker program could be implemented more quickly, thus putting names into the database.

The compromises on immigration and gun control are being worked out behind the scenes in Washington. It is going to happen, just a matter of time.

first step should be to amend the 14th so anchor babies are not citizens. At least one parent should have to be a US citizen.

The problem isn´t immigration law that needs reform, the problem is immigration anarchy. Enforcement, not reform, is needed.
