Consumer confidence
plunges on higher taxes

Associated Press, by Martin Crutsinger

Original Article

Posted By:Scottyboy, 1/29/2013 1:36:52 PM

U.S. consumer confidence plunged in January to its lowest level in more than a year, reflecting higher Social Security taxes that left Americans with less take-home pay. The Conference Board said Tuesday that its consumer confidence index dropped 8.1 points in January from December to a reading of 58.6, the lowest since November 2011. The index has declined for three straight months since hitting a nearly five-year high of 73.1 in October 2012. It´s still above the post-recession low of 40.9 reached in October 2011. Conference Board economist Lynn Franco said the tax increase was the key reason confidence tumbled in January

In a related matter, the Erie, Pa Times News had a headline this morning - jobless rate up slightly...County unemployment mark remains lower than nation´s.

They have been relentless promoters of the current president, often with almost mythical expressions of hope that things are about to get better.

Consumer confidence peaked the month before the election. The media and the government lies converged to reelect the worst President in 50 years.

And, now, confidence is sliding down into the valley of truth.

Rep. ATLANTIC CITY — New Jersey energy regulators took the air out of a $188 million plan to build a wind power farm off the coast of Atlantic City on Wednesday, rejecting the plan as too financially risky. The state Board of Public Utilities rejected a proposal by Fishermen’s Energy to build a windmill farm three miles off the state’s southern coast, deciding it placed too much potential risk of soaring electric bills for ratepayers. The proposal’s five turbines would have generated about 25 megawatts of electricity, but depended on a mixture of subsidies and federal grants to make sure ratepayers didn’t get

A bill before Iraq´s parliament that opponents say legalises child marriage and marital rape has sparked controversy ahead of elections as secular activists face off against the draft law´s backers. The bill, the Jaafari Personal Status Law, sets out rules to do with inheritance, marriage and divorce. Supporters of the draft, named after a Shiite Muslim school of jurisprudence, say it simply regulates practices already existing in day-to-day life. Opponents say the bill represents a step back for women´s rights in Iraq, and worry that it could further fray already fragile sectarian ties between the country´s various communities amid heightened violence ahead of

Is Barack Obama simply too busy to be Chief Executive of the United States? Apparently. One of the primary functions of the president is to keep the nation safe, to preserve it from its enemies. To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. Black students are more likely to be suspended from U.S. public schools — even as tiny preschoolers. The suspensions — and disparities — begin at the earliest grades. Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said.
