| With record numbers of college graduates underemployed in jobs that don’t actually require degrees, economists are joking that even aspiring janitors may soon have to get master’s degrees to compete for jobs. A study released Monday by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity found that 37 percent of employed graduates didn’t need to attend college at all to successfully perform their current jobs. For years, the economy has been sufficiently robust to sustain the employment of college graduates with no marketable skills (the result of gender and racial studies programs, as well as an excess of graduates with liberal arts vs technical degrees). But this is no longer true, and the days of a lib arts major finding a decent job right out of school may be gone forever. Because of this, it is pure folly for students and their parents to attend expensive schools unless they are certain their education will pay off in the long run. Likewise, it´s folly for the federal government to continue to provide education loans to students who will likely not be able to pay them back.

I haven´t worked in my degree field since 1996. Everything I´ve learned to do my current job, I learned on my own as I went along. We need corporate apprenticeships instead of 4-5 years of liberal BS that teaches you next to nothing.

What ticks me off is that working people pay for these "over educated crumbs" with our high taxes and lower standard of living.

Man: Johnny, what do you want to be when you grow up? Johnny:I wanna work for the government. Man: Why? Johnny: Cuz, you get paid big bucks, full health care and a big pension. Plus, if I screw up I get promoted. Man: Wouldn`t that make you feel guilty? You know, taking so much for doing so little? Johnny: Oh heck no. Guilt was the first thing they took from us in Bureaucrat School.

Separate the colleges into financially independent institutions - Engineering, Medicine, Education, Law, and Liberal Arts.
If they can´t make it financially on their own then they need to change or shut down.

I went to college after I had been working many years in office administration.
I never expected it to be helpful in my career. (Actually, I never wanted a "career" ... just a job that paid me enough to live decently.) I went to college because I enjoyed it, and paid for it myself. I got my B.A. a couple of weeks before my 50th birthday!

A degree merely shows potential employers that you have the perseverance to get through a relatively long and tough study program. Most graduates I know are trained on the job after they´re hired.

Many here seem to think the problem is that people got the wrong degrees. No, the problem is that Obama has created the longest recession ever. I don´t care what the stock market is doing. It doesn´t help my kids get jobs. My oldest is one of those who is working below his potential. So far, his education has helped him stay employed and now he was their first choice to get a promotion. The problem is our weak economy. His employer is cutting most people´s hours. It is increasing his since he is a much more productive worker than his co-workers, most of whom have not gone to any college. So yes, while he makes the same hourly wage now, in less than a year he has already inched ahead of his fellow employees. He is moving into a tangential job that if he stays, will be making more than the managers in a few years. If the economy ever improves, he will get an even better job. But for right now, we are grateful he makes enough to live very frugally alone and has enough to pay his bills.

My son is in his 2nd semester at the local JC, working on his general credits to transfer to a state university. No reason to spend his college fund irresponsibly. He wants to fly drones but I´m not so hot on the military under the current king, if you know what I mean. Don´t know what direction he needs to pursue! I tell him he needs to love his career so choose wisely and make it work.

Free golf, y´all. The 2013 Masters are headed to a sudden-death playoff between Angel Cabrera and Adam Scott after a phenomenally dramatic 18th hole that saw them end 72 holes of action in Augusta at 8-under each. And we get to see the 18th again, immediately. Per the Masters playoff rules, all the participants in the sudden-death playoff will go back to the 18th and play it again. If Cabrera and Scott post the same score on 18 again, they´ll go to the 10th hole and play it again. Should the two players tie on 10, they´ll return

One of the more bizarre memes propagated by the proabort left about the trial of Kermit Gosnell, who "faces 43 criminal counts, including eight counts of murder in the death of one patient, Karnamaya Monger, and seven newborn infants," is that Fox News has been almost as negligent in covering the story and the trial as the Big Three broadcast networks, and that conservative media in general have also mostly ignored the story. Through Monday evening, April 8, the Media Research Center´s Matt Philbin noted that Gosnell´s trial "has received exactly zero seconds of airtime on the broadcast networks."

JEFFERSON CITY — Republican lawmakers´ concerns about new driver´s license procedures are being exacerbated by the state´s unique system for marking concealed weapons endorsements. Missouri appears to be the only state whose license bureaus also issue concealed weapons endorsements in conjunction with driver´s licenses. In Missouri the endorsements are doled out by the sheriff´s office but the permits are printed by the Department of Revenue. Permit holders can choose whether they want to have the endorsement printed on their driver´s license or on a separate non-driving identification card. Of the roughly 178,000 concealed weapon permit holders, 174,450 Missourians choose

MIAMI— Duna Lopez started school in Miami last fall not knowing a single word of English. The 8-year-old girl from Barcelona, Spain, with dark blond hair was placed in the Coral Way Bilingual K-8 Center, the nation´s oldest bilingual school. For half the day, she receives classes in Spanish; it´s English for the rest. During language arts, she gets pulled out with three other new arrivals for extra help on grammar and phonics. After seven months, she´s one of the most active participants in class. "In five months, like that, I learned it," she said. Duna´s success is exceptional, but

Some of Manhattan’s wealthiest neighborhoods are exploding in a wave of violent crime that hearkens back to the bad old days when people feared going out at night, according to NYPD data obtained by The Post. Chelsea, Gramercy Park, TriBeCa, SoHo and Midtown South all posted a frightening rise in rapes in the first three months of 2013 compared with the same period in 2012. Felony assaults in the usually peaceful West Village nearly tripled, the new crime statistics show. Greenwich Village’s 6th Precinct tied the Rockaways’ grimy 100th Precinct for the city’s biggest year-to-date overall

A career criminal who stole a truck containing President Obama´s audio equipment was sentenced Thursday to seven years in federal prison. Sentencing guidelines called for a term of about three years, but Eric Brown of Richmond, Va., agreed to the longer sentence to avoid prosecution for 14 similar truck thefts in three localities. However, he could still face charges in Stafford County, which did not join Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties in the agreement. Brown pleaded guilty in January to theft of government property. "The theft of government property is a serious offense,"

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Golf people are not happy about it. They say that the new rule is B.S. (or it´s at least being misinterpreted), and Tiger should DQ himself to save the integrity of the game.

Few Americans can not answer this question: who is the worst domestic mass murderer in United States’ history? Due to the United States media, most are aware that Timothy McVeigh slaughtered 168 people with a bomb in 1995. Most Americans also know the names of our three most monstrous serial killers: “The Green River Killer” Gary Ridgeway, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy. The U.S. media is again responsible for the general awareness of these men; these stories deserved — and received — national attention due to our common interest in personal safety, the rule of law

In Philadelphia, at a human abattoir on Lancaster Avenue, is where it ends, not where it starts. It starts with the perversion of language. It starts when the icons of a dissipated culture reduce a baby to a “fetus.” From there, Yeats’s blood-dimmed tide rolls rapidly in. Before long, a baby is not a person but a punishment, as President Barack Obama framed the matter in his familiar off-the-cuff iciness. Of course, to describe newborn children in their boundless possibilities and wonder would be to acknowledge, foremost, their humanity. That is why, instead, abortion enthusiasts must grope for words

Here is something I don’t understand: liberals are often revealed as vile, vulgar hatemongers–not all of them, of course, but far too many–yet they never seem to pay a penalty at the polls. Why is that? Margaret Thatcher’s death has been the latest occasion for the Left to show its true stripes. All across the U.K., there have been demonstrations–vulgar at best, and violent at worst. In Bristol, lefties celebrating a Thatcher “death street party” started fires, destroyed property and battled police: This evening in Trafalgar Square, liberals have turned out for a long-planned celebration of Thatcher’s death:

With President Obama, there’s always a catch. In the 2014 budget he announced last week, Obama proposed a more accurate way of calculating the inflation rate for annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. It’s a technical change in pursuit of honesty and good government. And if adopted, it would cause benefits to grow more slowly, though almost imperceptibly so. Republican leaders in Congress ought to be delighted since they had “championed”—Obama’s word—the idea in the first place. Then came the catch. The president’s price for adopting this gentle reform was hundreds of billions in new tax increases.

President Obama and I were college classmate at Columbia University, class of ’83. I know all too well how mindlessly liberal the students and faculty of that institution can be, and Barack Obama is certainly no exception. My time at Columbia made it crystal clear: liberals always believe they are morally superior. [Snip] It is in this cesspool of intolerance that Obama and his Marxist cronies hatched a secret plan to destroy our country. There are two things you need to know about Obama at Columbia University. First, he was Pre Law and a Political Science major- just like me.
