Note to Palin: GOP
Needs More than a Mouth

Commentary Magazine, by Jonathan S. Tobin

Original Article

As expected, Fox News cut its ties with Sarah Palin on Friday. The former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate had worn out her welcome at the network over the last year and her brand had lost a lot of its pizzazz after sitting out the 2012 presidential contest and new conservative voices had come to the fore. Though she remains a cult favorite among some on the right and a convenient punching bag for the left, in a party with a large cast of rising stars like Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal,

Comments:
Lots of compliments for her in this piece, but some friendly advice, too.

Compliments? Friendly advice? I must have read a different article. All I saw was at least one nasty snipe per paragraph.
Snips FTA: "worn out her welcome at the network"
"hard to see how anyone as polarizing as Palin is going to get moderates to listen to anything she has to say."
"lost a lot of her credibility when she resigned her governorship"
"spent the last four years acting like a reality TV show star and alienating many people who once wished her well."
"she’s going to have to something more than talk."
"Palin has taken on the aspect of a celebrity rather than a politician, let alone a political thinker."
"she’s going to have to demonstrate that she’s capable of doing something more than run her mouth."

If I got friendly advice worded like this, I might suspect the authors motives.

Previous articles have framed Sarah´s departure from Fox in a different light altogether, saying it was Sarah who chose to exit. Now this article is saying Fox dumped her. And on top of that, the article is justifying dropping her with snide comments.

The conventional wisdom among the primary posters on this site is that Palin is a liability.
Never mind the fact that the left agrees.

I was very disappointed when Sarah did not get out and campaign with Romney/Ryan. She could have really given them a boost at campaign events and she chose not to. I don´t know why, but she said she wanted to be free to HELP the Republican party take back Washington. This was her big chance and she instead sat it out in Alaska. Since she wasn´t a factor in the election, I guess I can understand why FOX didn´t want to pay her a million dollars a year. I liked her enough that I would have voted for her had she decided to get into the Race. Sadly, she´s now yesterday´s news.

Reply 9 - Posted by: Catherine, 1/28/2013 8:28:42 AM     (No. 9143647)

Oh please, Fox is so eager to be one of the big boy news networks now. It won´t really matter if Palin isn´t there anymore. We know, and so do all the elitists among us, that she will still be able to draw huge crowds and if the GOP were filled with smart men instead of good ole boys, they´d have understood what a gem she is instead of trying to shove her off the cliff. Yessiree - they gave us Dole, McCain and Romney. And I see Rove was re-signed. I turn the channel when he comes on - anywhere.

Reply 10 - Posted by: plumnellie, 1/28/2013 8:32:47 AM     (No. 9143659)

If Palin had campaigned for Romney/Ryan they still would have lost then posters could blame Palin and say she is too polarizing and caused us to lose the election. Am I right? We have posters who are addicted to blaming Palin, like many blame Bush, for anything and everything that goes wrong. Own it. Posters who scapegoat Palin are whiners who aid and abet our enemies on the left. Any strong conservative will be bashed by Republicans who are cino´s. The left need not worry about shooting down our conservatives, our cino´s will do it for them.

How kind of Mr. Tobin to provide all of this "complimentary friendly advice" to Sarah Palin, and for OP to post it here in case Ldotters may have missed it.

The eagerness of goodhearted concern for Sarah Palin´s political future is obvious for all to see.
All Palin "fans" and "true believers" are sure to be uplifted and heartened by the implication of this kind thoughtfulness from Mr. Tobin and OP that they and others like them will be shoulder to shoulder with Palin and her "fans" in every effort to restore Palin´s "lost credibility".
If not shoulder to shoulder, it is certain we can count on them to be out in front of her and at her back with much more similar encouragement and lots of "complimentary, friendly advice".

It´s hard to find words to describe such kindness and generosity, but, when words fail to express the proper appreciation, perhaps knowing that we know that´s just the kind of people they are will suffice.

The "rising stars" just look like RINOs to me, and will not bring me back to the republican party. We need real change that gets i the faces of the enemies of ths country - the domestic kind, and these lilly-livered wimps aren´t interested in engaging the enemy.

Sorry GOP, you´re going down again if you don´t change, and it will be worse each election cycle unti you do. As Baretta said, you can take that to the bank.

It is my understanding that she wasn´t asked to campaign for them. And the fact that she could probably outshine anyone in the GOP by pulling in crowds that they could only dream of. What RINO wants to deal with that? This article is snarky garbage. It is so nice to see that Sarah is still living rent free in the heads of the haters on the left and the right.

Don´t write Sarah off yet. I don´t believe she was invited to the convention nor was she invited to campaign for Romney. She was the energizer for the McCain campaign, more came out to see her than him. She was demonized because the left was afraid of her appeal.

Denver-based CNN journalist Jim Spellman says the total lack of media coverage of the legal travails faced by Fox News reporter Jana Winter for protecting her sources clearly demonstrates an anti-Fox News bias in the press. Spellman claimed in a tweet that if Winter, who faces a subpoena and potential contempt of court charges for protecting her sources, worked for the New York Times instead of Fox News, the case would be garnering far greater exposure. “Observation: If @janawinter, who may go to jail to protect sources, worked for @nytimes instead of @FoxNews the case would be huge,” Spellman tweeted Sunday night.

Obama will release his budget this week, and we already know that he´s going to try to stake out a treacherous "middleground" as he attempts to cast himself as a bold centrist, willing to stand apart from leftist Democrats. He´ll do so by, reportedly, introducing a Chained CPI, which is a way of cutting Social Security by using a different inflation measure that won´t rise as much. Liberals are already livid. While politicians talk about expanding background checks for gun owners, I’m starting to think that what we really need are IQ tests for political officeholders. The only problem is, that might leave us with a lot of vacancies in Congress and America’s statehouses. The debacle over New York’s rushed-through gun bill is one example of what happens when enthusiasm meets stupid. But another is to be found in Rep. Secretary of State John Kerry is worth some $200 million, give or take a yacht. So his decision to slap a 5% pay cut on himself in solidarity with government employees squeezed by sequestration won’t likely hurt him much. But he’s saving taxpayers another way, too — if unintentionally. And it’s downright troubling. How else is Kerry saving money? He’s failing to hire folks to fill key spots at his agency. Terrific. Think about it: With the North Koreans threatening nuclear strikes against America — and Kerry himself preparing to visit South Korea this week — wouldn’t it be a tad helpful

It would take superspin powers to portray the March jobs report as anything other than a huge step in the wrong direction. The US economy added just 88,000 jobs last month, 95,000 in the private sector as public payrolls fell by 7,000. The official unemployment rate ticked down a tenth of a point to 7.6%. 1. That is a paltry number of jobs, more or less matching assumed labor force growth per month. So the economy must add at least that many jobs just to keep the labor market at current depressed levels.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
