Pulitzer Prize-winning
playwright David Mamet:
Obama’s gun control policy

Daily Caller [Washington DC], by Patrick Howley

In a recent column, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet suggested President Barack Obama is a Marxist who seeks to determine the “needs” of the citizenry. “All of us have had dealings with the State, and have found, to our chagrin, or, indeed, terror, that we were not dealing with well-meaning public servants or even with ideologues but with overworked, harried bureaucrats. These, as all bureaucrats, obtain and hold their jobs by complying with directions and suppressing the desire to employ initiative, compassion, or indeed, common sense. They are paid to follow orders,” Mamet wrote. “Rule by bureaucrats and functionaries

David Mamet is a profile in courage. That he´s an entertainment industry icon and he dares to speak up for sensible principles is more brave than most can understand. They -- who loved him before -- are ripping him to shreds and shunning him. I doubt he was surprised, but it still stinks to see it.

I know some Democrats, all too well. For more than half my life, I was one (but with serious caveats). Believe me, one of their deepest frustrations is not being able to come out and say, in clear and honest terms, what they really feel. Because if they did, their adulation of Marx´s "theories" of class warfare and oppression by capitalism would send them into the political desert. So they have to disguise it with evasive "compassion" and "fairness" rhetoric. Obama is a master at this, but they all know the code words for what the real intentions are, underneath.

But I´ve been wondering whether a 2nd Obama term might just give them enough courage to start coming out of the closet and, like the Warren Beatty movie "Bulworth", start using the word Socialism out loud more and more until it becomes acceptable and mainstream. When demonizing achievers ("the rich"), maybe a few prominent Democrats might begin to add things like "Well, you know, Chris, Marx did have a point when he said..."

Apostates like Mamet are their worst nightmare, because an apostate knows both sides from the inside, and can expose the real intentions behind the rhetoric - the very, very last thing the Left ever wants done.

Obama and the left aren´t going to win the gun control argument. They´ll flap their jaws and pass some superficial laws but it won´t matter that much. Background checks should be where the real effort should go,this is a human behavior problem not a gun one.

You have to wonder sometimes if one of the multitude of “special advisors” to Barack Obama has a George Orwell fetish. All of us have read hundreds of blog articles and thousands of comments made in passing by co-workers, family, friends and the occasional total stranger that allude to the Obama administration and it’s resemblance to George Orwell’s seminal work, 1984. There have even been references to Orwell’s 1984 in columns published in the normally slavishly supportive main stream media, which are always easy to identify since the White House normally describes them as “hit pieces.” Orwellian descriptions of totalitarianism

This week the indictment and arrests of leading San Francisco and California Democrat politicians follows a long string of corruption cases involving prominent Democrats. It brings to mind the ridiculous charges by Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (echoing Howard Dean) that the Republicans were responsible for a “culture of corruption” and that she, a woman, was going to sweep the Congress clean of it. Included in her litany of things charged as corrupt was the Medicare Prescription Drug Bill which she attacked in a press release and privileged resolution on December 8, 2005: Across the country, seniors are trying to navigate the

The transition from college to adult life is treacherous, and this is nowhere more visible than among new college graduates in their first real jobs. A few years ago, I took it upon myself to start writing tips for the young staff where I work about how to avoid doing things that would make their supervisors write them off. It began as a lark as I wrote tips with titles such as, "Excise the word ´like´ from your spoken English." But eventually, I found myself getting into the deeper waters of how to go about living a good life. At that point, I had to deal with a reality: When it comes to a life filled with deep and lasting satisfactions, most of the clichés are

Obama hosts a roundtable—I am told keyed towards business executives—at the Chicago Cut Steakhouse downtown where about 25 folks are expected; the tab is up to $32,400. The Obama roundtable is hosted by Mesirow Financial Chairman and CEO Richard Price. Later, Obama is the headliner at a dinner for about 55—donating up to $10,000--at the Lincoln Park home of Craig Freedman and Grace Tsao-Wu, who is an Obama major donor and fund-raiser. Here is a seeming paradox of American life. One the one hand, there is a broad social-science correlation between religious faith and various social goods — health and happiness, upward mobility, social trust, charitable work and civic participation. Yet at the same time, some of the most religious areas of the country — the Bible Belt, the deepest South — struggle mightily with poverty, poor health, political corruption and social disarray. Part of this paradox can be resolved by looking at nonreligious variables like race. But part of it reflects an important fact about religion in America: The social goods

After a disastrous presidential campaign in 2012, can Texas Governor Rick Perry mount a credible bid for the White House in 2016? Texas Governor Rick Perry is currently on a media tour touting the theme that America is a great place for second chances, specifically second chances for Texas governors with national ambitions. Perry is trying to erase the memory of his disastrous 2012 GOP presidential campaign which included “brain-farts” and “oops” debate moments with his folksy, charming, and uniquely American manner. Curious about Perry’s comeback strategy, I asked Texan and GOP presidential media guru, Mark McKinnon and he said,

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. A startling rift appeared Tuesday on the Supreme Court as the three female Justices came out swinging like Brunnhildes — women warriors — for what they erroneously labeled an “entitlement” to employer-provided contraceptives and morning-after pills. The Justices were hearing oral arguments in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a case hyped by the Democratic Party as a test for women’s rights. Justices Kagan, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor sprang on Hobby Lobby’s attorney , interrupting his every sentence and pummeling him with questions taken right out of the Democratic Party’s “war on women” playbook.
