Washington -President Barack Obama says gun-control advocates should be better listeners in the debate over firearms in America. In an interview with The New Republic, Obama says he has "a profound respect" for the tradition of hunting that dates back for generations. "And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake. Part of being able to move this forward is understanding the reality of guns in urban areas are very different from the realities of guns in rural areas," he says. (Snip) The president says it´s understandable that people are protective of their family traditions

I think gun grabbers need to think more and use emotional reactions less. They need to re-examine their policies which have made gun free cities some of the most dangerous out there...like Barry´s adopted home town of Chicago.

Memo to Obama: This isn´t about hunting. It´s about self-defense. And Sandy Hook wasn´t in an urban area, it was in the leafy suburbs, and the gun-owner mom was a country-hunter type from New Hampshire. One teacher with a pistol could have stopped that mentally ill maggot with a pop.

Right off the bat, Obama demonstrates he has no intention of listening even as he talks of listening. I think he´s getting it from Clinton, who took a drubbing in his midterm elections over an assault rifle ban. I hope it means he´s worried about 2014.

Guns obviously have a variety of legitimate uses, self protection and hunting among them. All of the pro gun arguments that center on those uses, however, are of secondary importance because the constitution´s authors made no mention of them. Their only rationale was that citizens right to arms was to afford protection from a tyrannical government. When we rely on hunting, self defense, etc, that only leads to arguments about what is a reasonable magazine capacity, a reasonable rate of fire, a less scary appearance, etc. Emphasizing the core constitutional rationale makes those arguments moot.

Yeah - Obama is the leading authority on why gun owners own guns - tradition and hunting. Of course, all he is trying to do is begin "new" traditions inside America.

These people really do believe their own insanity. 1st they tell us that we are being paranoid and that nobody wants to take our guns. Next up - gun control legislation - yeah real unreal fears!

They told us during the Odumbocare debacle that there were no death panels (which we all knew there were) - and today they are just boldly putting the ´known´ truth out that if you don´t abide by their standards of "clean living" you will be left to die - probably won´t even give you a pain pill.

Of course, abortion is considered a very healthy lifestyle and will probably be rewarded.

I am so sick of that POS DICTATING to us day in and day out - WHERE IS OUR REPRESENTATION? Are we seriously going to have to take to the streets because I don´t see anyone on the Hill with the cajones to stop this.

Also, I am getting tired of republicans who I think are on our side slowly bending over. Saw a picture of Pete King from NY snapping a photo of JayZ and B at the Inauguaration. I understand the "star" factor and that he may have been taking the pic for a family member, but when I see something like that I begin to feel they are all in on it together to some degree. Big deal an ex-crack dealer and a lip syncher - maybe you could be investigating Obama´s tyranny in your spare time.

It is not about hunting. It is about the Constitution and the right to bear arms. Trying to reframe the debate to make it about hunting is either stupid or dishonest. It is often hard to tell with Obama which is the case.

When one views the gun control debate from the perspective of hunting, it is immediately obvious that semi-automatic weapons are superfluous and are therefore logically and easily outlawed. The same applies to many other firearms and accessories.

Does Obama know what he is doing? I have no idea. Sometimes he seems so completely clueless about the Constitution, American politics, the nature of representative government etc. that one wonders if he skipped the basic classes in school. Yet other times he comes across as manipulative, cunning and sinister. Perhaps it does not matter which is the case, so long as we do not fall for his rap.

The controversy over government control of firearms has nothing whatever to do with the tradition of hunting. It is about the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms, and the relation of the citizens to their government.

In urban areas you need the appropriate gun to shoot two-legged varmints and in rural reas you need the appropriate gun to shoot four-legged varmints. If you travel a lot between the two venues, it´s probably best to have a variety of firearms.

As I commented elsewhere, 0bama is deliberately manipulating the meaning of the Second Amendment by telling an obvious lie, because he is a serial liar and knows he can get away with misinforming a good percentage of our population. The Second Amendment is not about hunting, and he knows it. A tyrannical government is now baring its teeth and coming after YOU, Mr. and Mrs. Citizen.

This does not say the government, Constitution or this Amendment gives you the right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment, just like others, does not bestow a right upon the people, but prohibits the government from infringing on your rights. Your “right” to keep and bear arms, to free speech, etc.; “shall not be infringed”!

The First Amendment begins “Congress shall make no law ...” This Amendment does not give the right to free speech, it prohibits the government from interfering in the rights we already had.

Neither the Constitution nor the government gave us these rights. Our rights preceded both the document and the government. The Constitution was written to establish a general government for a very few, specific reasons. The Bill of Rights was added making it clear the government did not have the power to restrict “rights.”

if our rights did not come from the government or the Bill of Rights, where did we get them? “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights ...” (Declaration of Independence) Our “rights” come from God. They predate the Constitution and the government.

God gave us “unalienable” rights. This means that no one can take them; they are yours unless you relinquish them!
