I´ll vouch for that. Had to fill my oil tank with Diesel because I let it run dry on a Saturday. Absolutely ruined a pair of winter gloves. Stink like Diesel to high heaven. And I definitely got a headache. But I WAS WARM in my house, so what the heck is staying alive compared to a head ache and a pair of gloves?!?

Interesting "finding". Now, if they just had some credibility....

There´s no question about this to me. I have an extreme chemical sensitivity and nothing obliterates my brain like diesel fumes,bleach and dryer sheets.Thank God,I don´t have to live in the city and get stuck behind transit buses in 90 degree weather.

Over the years, I have read credible studies that conclude just the opposite. I don´t take any of them at face value anymore.

Well, duh. Just the smell of diesel should tell you that.

30,000 deaths attributable to air pollution? What? Sole reason for pushing diesel is the CO2 output??

Has anyone seen the coverage of the ´airpocalypse´ in China? When asked why the Chinese put up with it... they point out that health problems and longevity have improved with industrialization... they´re better off with air pollution than they were with a backward, semi-agrarian society where they starved and were deprived of technological living improvements even though the numbers were literally off the charts (new classification: "Scary bad". Seriously.)

The real cause of lung cancer, according to another Oxford research scientist, Dr. Kitty Little, is diesel fumes. And the evidence here is much more persuasive. It includes the facts that:
? tobacco smoke contains no carcinogens, while diesel fumes contain four known carcinogens;
? that lung cancer is rare in rural areas, but common in towns;
? that cancers are more prevalent along the routes of motorways;
? that the incidence of lung cancer has doubled in non-smokers over past decades;
? and that there was less lung cancer when we, as a nation, smoked more.
Pointing out that there has been evidence for over 40 years that smoking does not cause lung cancer, Dr Little says:
"Since the effect of the anti-smoking campaign has been to prevent the genuine cause from being publicly acknowledged, there is a very real sense in which we could say that the main reason for those 30,000 deaths a year from lung cancer is the anti-smoking campaign itself".

of course all this data is based on older Diesel engines, and the old higher sulphur fuel...

It is often reported that sensitivity to petroleum-type fumes increases with exposure. In my case that appears correct because now, after decades of sucking it up, I can smell a SGD [stinky german diesel] on the freeway if one is closer than about a half-mile in front. My sinuses go crazy. No problem with American or Japanese diesels unless they have been perormance-modified or the injection pump is worn out.
