Zero sympathy for residents of NY, NJ, IL, or MA, as they voted Democrats into office. Of course, there isn´t much alternative, because GOPs in those states are practically indistinguishable from Dems.

Good to see CBS Chicago actually noticing how bad the situation is.
However I see no way out except bankruptcies for many local governments and other agencies such as sanitation districts. And every state handles those differently.
Every possible bail-out scheme will be proposed first. Getting money from others is a popular lifestyle.

I like the way article is written, you´d think the various agencies had mysteriously some how overspent on paperclips and bottled water, but by the way, there´s those pesky unfunded pension liabilities, they might by a factor but we´re unsure and we´re so confused.

The whole issue of taxes is in a weird situation right now.Obama started this ridiculous redistribution theme to reel in a huge block of voters and it sure as hell paid off for him in both the elections.Obviously it hasn´t worked with more people in poverty,wage gap getting bigger and millions of un and underemployed people,not to mention $6 trillion in new debt. The left uses debt as an excuse to raise taxes after they go on spending sprees.
There´s institutional liberal debt due to overly generous government unions benefits.
But there´s also a subterranean angle on taxes which is leading to population shifts to lower tax states like Fl. and Texas.We know cal. is the best example of a people and business exodus.
Blue state liberals are so addicted to tax and spend policies,they can´t see the self destruction going on right before their eyes.
You have to love the hilarity of Obama supporters getting tax increases while rich people barely got slapped and you have to make $400,000 to even qualify for that.I can see people in this income area asking for pay cuts rather than see Obama get their extra taxes.
The disconnect I don´t get is there´s a lot of outrage going on across the country on taxes but republicans are still scorned by the public even though they´re against taxes up until the cliff cave in.My guess is the government will see less than half of what their projections will supposedly bring in from the cliff deal.
The other disconnect I don´t get is Obama is the head snake on tax increases but still has a 50% approval and the media calls him a popular president.

It’s a dubious distinction for the new class of Illinois lawmakers being sworn in Wednesday in Springfield. It’s the first time in years that three sitting lawmakers simultaneously face criminal charges. Representatives Derrick Smith and LaShawn Ford and state Sen. Donne Trotter, all Chicago Democrats, face varying charges. Smith is under federal indictment in a bribery case. Ford is accused of bank fraud. Trotter is charged with trying to bring a gun onto a plane.

Bank robbers had a busy year in 2012. The FBI said robbers have hit 218 banks in the Chicago area as of Dec. 31, compared to 115 in 2011. “Close to double what we had in the prior year,” said FBI Special Agent Joan Hyde. WBBM Newsradio’s Brandis Friedman reports, while people often look for a way to explain a spike in bank robberies, Hyde said it’s not often tied to a greater issue, like the economy. “That just doesn’t play out. Typically the bank robbers are motivated by their need for money for a drug habit, or gambling debts,” she said.

West Virginia Democratic Sen. In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
