The Feinstein “Assault Weapons”
Ban: What’s It All About?

Power Line, by John Hinderaker

Today Senator Dianne Feinstein unveiled her long-promised legislation to ban “assault weapons.” Since there is no such thing as an assault weapon, we will have to read the text of the law to see what it actually does. So far, I haven’t seen the text anywhere, but Feinstein’s web site has a fairly detailed description of the bill, including a list of the 157 weapons that are specifically banned. News coverage of Feinstein’s proposal has been laughably bad. Feinstein’s bill purports to toughen the 1994 assault weapons ban by reducing the number of “military style” features that make a firearm

I just figured it was a way to sell more AR-15´s because that´s exactly what it´s doing. While I was waiting for a lane to open up, I saw ten of them jump off the shelf in a little more than an hour this afternoon at $1,600 to $2,300 a piece.

If we are going to pass a law to keep Sandy Hook from happening again, shouldn´t we pass a law that would have saved a single victim had it been enacted at the time of the shooting rather than a law that wouldn´t have saved a single life had it been enacted before the shooting?

Feinstein hates military styled weapons, mental illness on her part. She is psychotic, totally illogical.

ALL these bills are OBVIOUSLY infringement on our right to keep and bear arms and are clearly unconstitutional. We need to stop this in the Senate AND in the House, BOTH.

Remember - the "no private sales" push, being sold as the ´gun show loophole´ is equally fictional, but the push is intended to result in registering all guns. Confiscation to follow.

Of course it is grandstanding, and look at the attention it has gotten her. But then gun bands are not about preventing violence, it is all about wanting to project the fantasy that all is well in lala land.
Needing a gun for self defense or protection against tyranny exposes the truth and they simply can´t handle the truth. They so want to control all the pieces because they want reality to conform to their beliefs. They are scared and can´t handle the truth so we must sacrifice our liberties so they can live in their pretend world.

I have seen the supposed list. It specifically bans the Ruger Mini 14 tactical rifle. The only difference between the tactical version and a run of the mill ranch rifle is the stock. Period. All of the important stuff is exactly the same.

You can buy a ranch rifle and make into a tactical by buying an after market folding and adjustable length stock. So I suppose that such stocks should be made illegal so that you cannot do that.

As hildabeast would say, what does it matter? The ranch rifle fires the same rounds, in the same manner, and at the same rate. The only difference is how they look.

Feinstein is obviously driven by some kind of mental aberration against the way a rifle looks. Or to put it another way; she´s a loon.

The only thing most of these people know about weapons is what they see on tv and at the movies and Toys R Us. They have no idea how weapons work or why they are designed the way they are or what the real descriptive terms mean. They reveal their ignorance everytime they talk about weapons. The scary thing is they know about the same amount on everything they talk about.

"Could Diane Feinstein´s assault on our civil rights actually be a smoke screen to divert attention from this? On the day the
new Congress convened this year she introduced legislation to route $25 billion in tax payer money to a government agency that had just awarded her husband´s real estate firm a lucrative contract to sell foreclosed properties at compensation rates higher than the industry norms. Her intervention on behalf of the FDIC is unusual since she isn´t a member of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban affairs with jurisdiction over FDIC; and the committee is supposed to operate from money it raises from bank-paid insurance payments- not direct federal dollars." In other words, she´s a crook.

The liberal Democrats can´t stop criminals and crazy people from getting their hands on guns because there are too many guns out there for the liberals to ever effectively control. Banning guns and ammunition magazines will only create new black markets for those items throughout the USA.

What the liberals really want to do is wipe out most of the US small arms and related industries that the liberals consider to be conservative oriented enterprises. Once just about all modern firearms produced and sold in the USA, both rifles and handguns, are banned, there is no way that those industries could survive by bidding on ever diminishing military contracts alone. With those industries gone, all the tens of thousands of well paying American jobs and the technical know how connected to them would also be gone.

The liberal mission there is clear, and at the same time the liberals refer to the mentally ill, a few of who perpetrate the mass shootings, as being victims who they want to help. The liberals also are silent on the movie, TV, and addictive violent video game industries those entertainment products give vulnerable young people with mental disorders, who grow up in places like peaceful small Connecticut towns, ideas completely foreign to those places, like that to gain media attention to themselves the thing to do is to commit criminally insane acts while setting out on their own individual suicide missions. Of course the mental health industry and the makers of violent movie, TV, and video games are all liberal Democrat constituency groups.

In a quick response to the author, yes, there are, or have been, rifle launched grenades. The old M1 Garand of WWII fame had the capable of firing them. I fired on during basic training the Ft. Polk, La. 1963.

And, if I came up and beat you to a pulp with a wooden club or any other blunt object, whould that also be classified as an assult weapon? After all, I "assulted" you with one.

And in response to poster #12, Obozo won´t turn the military on Americian citizens en mass. He will act piece meal by sending federal agents to individuals or small groups and threaten them with prison if they don´t turn it their guns. Or do what the Russians did in 1917-1918. Just round them up and shoot them.

We need to have this conversation once and for all. If they want to modify the 2nd Amendment then they can make their case. There´s a mechanism for amending the Constitution. The founders couldn´t envision the day that the citizens would be so unequally outgunned. It began with the National Firearms Act in 1934 and now this. Let´s get it out in the open. Either we have a right to "bear" arms or we don´t.

Have you noticed that these so called gun safety laws exempt Congress? This proposed assault weapons bill exempts them.

ObamaCare exempts them. Congress has their own health care. They make laws for the citizens, but these laws don´t apply to them, the ruling class. That´s the definition of an elitist. And the definition of evil.

It´s about taking time trying to control something (guns) that congress and the white house have no constitutional authority to do.

It´s about not taking time to control something(federal government spending) that congress and the white house are constitutionally mandated to do.

It´s about transforming the United States Federal government into a tyrannical government.

As a an avid gun owner, the current "debate" is maddening: the misinformation in the press is staggering, and the public is being manipulated like putty by the liberals. Even John Elway - bless his heart - was duped last night by Piers Morgan, who asked him if he could see any reason why a citizen should own a rifle that can spew out "hundreds of rounds" at a time? Poor John´s reply: I don´t personally own a MACHINE GUN and I can´t see why anybody should." There´s a reason, John: except for holders of expensive and hard to get Class III firearm licenses, these weapons have been strictly controlled/registered in the US since 1934. Why can´t the press at least acknowledge that it doesn´t have a clue what it´s talking about when it comes to "assault weapons" (rhetorical question - sorry)? The job to fix this lack of knowledge and our inability to understand the true facts about gun murders in the US is almost too overwhelming to address. We have a long, hard fight ahead of us.

The White House and congressional Democrats tried to limit the fallout Wednesday from the politically damaging conclusion in a Congressional Budget Office report that the Obamacare entitlement creates a major incentive for some people not to work. While some critics focused on a finding by the CBO that Obamacare will result in 2.5 million fewer workers over a decade, conservatives said the bigger fundamental issue highlighted in the report is one familiar to the welfare state — that taxpayer-funded government subsidies provide disincentives for full-time work. “People used to be stuck in jobs because they needed the health insurance,” said

The Virginia legislature years ago banned governors from donating excess inauguration funds to political causes, but that hasn’t stopped Gov. Mr. McAuliffe’s aides say the two $78,000 checks his inaugural committee sent to his campaign committee along with a $55,000 check to the state Democratic Party were expenditures for the rental of email lists. But campaign finance analysts told The Washington Times that the costs of the email rentals appeared to be exorbitant, and

Between 1 million and 2 million Americans signed up for Medicaid last year because of the health-care law, according to a new report suggesting that many of the people who have joined the program since the initiative’s rollout in October would have done so absent the law. The Obama administration has said that 6.3 million people were determined to be eligible for Medicaid between October and December. But the study, from health-care industry consulting firm Avalere Health, suggests that only a fraction of the enrollments are strictly the result of the health-care law. Obamacare will push the equivalent of about 2 million workers out of the labor market by 2017 as employees decide either to work fewer hours or drop out of the job market altogether, according to estimates released Tuesday by the Congressional Budget Office. The analysis set off a furious debate in Washington. The White House argued that the reduction is positive because it means Americans will forgo jobs or extra work to stay home with their children or strike out on their own as entrepreneurs. New momentum in Congress for a broad overhaul of border-control laws has prompted White House allies to demand that President Obama halt deportations of millions of illegal immigrants, many of whom would be allowed to remain in the country under a legislative deal. The advocates, including the AFL-CIO and pro-immigration groups, argue that Obama should use his executive authority to expand a 2012 decision that halted deportations of young people brought to the United States illegally by their parents. The administration’s aggressive approach to enforcement — which has resulted in nearly 2 million deportations during Obama’s tenure — makes little

Washington – President Barack Obama´s approval rating has edged up a bit since the end of last year, according to a new national poll. But a CNN/ORC International survey also indicates the number of Americans who hope that his policies will succeed has dropped 12 points since last year and a majority now predicts that his policies will fail. According to the survey, which was released Monday, 45% of the public gives Obama a thumbs-up on the job he´s doing as President. That's up from 41% in November and December, when the President was at or near all-time lows in polls from CNN and other organizations.

For a candidate who owes her name recognition to a friendly media, Wendy Davis is having trouble not riling up the local press. Dave Mann of the Texas Observer writes that the extent to which her team is botching media relations is "the worst ... I´ve ever seen," an embarrassment weakening her candidacy. Mann initially admits that he is not a media relations specialist, but has covered a large number of political campaigns. Davis´s, he says, holds the record for absolute worst, and it threatens to sink her entire campaign. Attributing the follies to inexperienced, young media flacks, Mann nonetheless

The Congressional Budget Office estimated on Tuesday that the Affordable Care Act will reduce the number of full-time workers by 2.5 million over the next decade. That is mostly a good thing, a liberating result of the law. Of course, Republicans immediately tried to brand the findings as “devastating” and stark evidence of President Obama’s health care reform as a failure and a job killer. It is no such thing. (SNIP) The new law will free people, young and old, to pursue careers or retirement without having to worry about health coverage.

Just days away from the administration’s deadline to extend the nation’s borrowing authority, Speaker John A. Boehner told House Republicans he sees no reason to pick a fight they cannot win on the issue. “There’s no sense picking a fight we can’t win,” the Ohio Republican told members in a private conference meeting, according to sources in the room. Leadership has been looking for a plan that could draw Republican support for a debt limit increase, and Boehner urged his members to coalesce around a plan. If they do not, he warned, the Senate could move first and tack a provision to

The Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare, became law almost four years ago. It became operational last Oct. 1. Yesterday, Feb. 4, 2014, the ACA may well have been dealt its death blow. The Congressional Budget Office released a major study of the government’s budget and its effect on the overall economy over the next 10 years. In dull bureaucratic language, it delivers a devastating analysis of the inefficiencies, ineffectualities and problematic social costs of ObamaCare. The one-two punch: Virtually as many Americans will lack health coverage in 10 years as before the law was passed — but 2 million fewer

President Obama, outlining his push Tuesday to bring high-speed Internet access to more U.S. schools, said Americans should demand the same level of technology in learning facilities as they do in coffee shops. “In a country where we expect free Wi-Fi with our coffee, we should definitely demand it in our schools,” Obama said in Adelphi, Md., highlighting $750 million in new commitments from private companies to put digital learning labs in schools. Under his plan, the Federal Communications Commission will also spend $2 billion to connect 20 million students to wireless technologies.

Seven seconds of total silence. The nation´s top intelligence officials have answered the question countless times over the past year and a half, but they seemed stumped during a House hearing Tuesday when a Florida congressman asked them one more time: "Can anybody at the table tell us when somebody will be held responsible for the murders in Benghazi?" For seven seconds, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, CIA director John Brennan, Defense Intelligence Agency director Michael Flynn, National Counterterrorism Center director Matt Olsen and FBI director James Comey sat quietly – each one seemingly waiting for one of the others to

House committees are still digging into the IRS political targeting scandal, and based on a hearing Wednesday there´s more to learn. The day produced more evidence blowing apart President Obama´s claims that there was "not even a smidgen of corruption" or political motivation in the IRS handling of groups applying for tax-exempt status. Mr. Obama wants Americans to believe that the targeting resulted from the confusing tax law governing nonprofits, which he says was "difficult" to interpret and resulted in mere "bureaucratic" mistakes. This is also the Administration´s justification for issuing new regulations governing

The image below was sent to me by a reader who went for a visit to a physician, and was told that she could not be seen unless she filled out this race and ethnicity questionnaire, and put her name on the form. She initially refused, but they insisted that it was required or she could not see the doctor. The form does indicate that it is mandatory under Section 4302 of Obamacare. Section 4302 is explained by HHS as follows: Overview of Section 4302 of the Affordable Care Act The Affordable Care Act (ACA) includes several provisions aimed at eliminating health disparities in

AUSTIN, Texas — The Wild West tradition of openly carrying your six-shooter on the street has long been banned in Texas under state law. But the next governor could change that. Rising Democratic star and gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis has joined her top Republican rival in supporting a proposed "open carry" law. It would allow people with concealed handgun licenses to wear a pistol on their hip, in full view, while in public. Davis has said she supports expanding gun rights in Texas. In a statement to The Associated Press, she said that includes open-carry — a position that puts her at

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said the Congressional Budget Office report that shows Obamacare will make the labor force lose 2.3 million full-time workers by 2021 is positive because it lets Americans be “free agents.” “We have the CBO report, which rightfully says, that people shouldn’t have job lock. If they — we live in a country where there should be free agency. People can do what they want,” Reid told reporters outside of a close policy luncheon. “And what they’re saying here is — and the fact checkers have already done this — the Republicans talk about losing
