Report: USAID probed
for alleged bid-rigging

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Julian Pecquet

Criminal investigators are looking into allegations that the top lawyer for the State Department´s aid agency rigged a bid and that top officials tried to cover it up, according to The Associated Press. The AP reported Thursday that the Justice Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development´s inspector general are investigating whether USAID general counsel Lisa Gomer interfered last year to guarantee that a now-canceled bid for a “senior government-to-government assistance adviser” would be won by the agency´s retiring chief financial officer, David Ostermeyer.

Wonder how Hillary and Bill are paying for their new digs in the Hampton´s? Isn´t it expensive to keep up mansions in Chappaqua (sp) and Washington DC. What is so amazing is that when they left Arkansas they didn´t have a pot to do #1 in. Now look at them? Who knew that government paid so well?

No way. Install a king and before you know it he’ll be issuing royal edicts changing the law willy nilly to suit his daily whims. What would be left of America then? In parliamentary systems around the globe, the head of state is separate from the head of government. In some countries, like Russia and France, the president (as head of state) is more powerful than the prime minister (who is head of government). In others, like Israel, the president serves simply as a symbol of the nation, while the prime minister runs the country. Europe’s constitutional monarchies limit their heads of

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Here is why the history is crucial. The reason that al-Maliki does not listen to Obama -- no matter what he says about reconciling with the Sunnis -- is because America has no leverage. America evacuated. Obama decided we were going to liquidate our presence. We were supposed to negotiate a Status of Forces Agreement and to leave a residual element in Iraq that would train the air force, that would train the army, that would also have special forces on the ground that would go on operations, and that perhaps most important, would mediate between the Sunnis

Everyone´s a critic. A Canadian musician claims that U.S. Customs officials seized and destroyed 11 rare flutes as he passed through New York´s John F. Kennedy International Airport last week. The reason? Concerns they were an ecological threat. The charge from Boujemaa Razgui, who is based in the U.S., has drawn widespread attention -- in the U.S., in Canada, and particularly in the music community. U.S. Customs and Border Protection, though, is disputing the claim that the agency destroyed instruments. Rather, a spokesman told FoxNews.com they only destroyed a handful of fresh bamboo stalks, "per USDA regulations," out of concern that they could

It’s a new year and you know what that means — new regulations. The Obama administration has wasted no time in writing them. The website Regulations.gov lists 141 regulations that have been posted by federal agencies in the last three days alone. Of these regulations, 119 are “rulemaking,” meaning they establish a new rule. Twenty-three are “non-rulemaking,” meaning the regulations does not establish a new rule. The largest group of regulations have to do with energy and environmental issues, many of them issued by the Environmental Protection Agency. The Justice Department on Friday urged Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to stop blocking the Obamacare mandate forcing organizations to provide insurance plans that include contraceptives, arguing that a religious group contesting the law did not have a complaint. Just before Jan. 1, Sotomayor issued an injunction on behalf of Catholic nuns in Colorado who objected to the birth control mandate in the Affordable Care Act, claiming it violates their religious beliefs. Her decision at least temporarily exempts the Colorado group from the mandate in lieu of a more far-reaching Supreme Court decision on the contraception rules. The Justice Department,

When the president has an important meeting behind closed doors, the White House sometimes issues a readout — general summary of what was discussed, with administration spin. After President Obama golfed for five hours with New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, the White House tried to dress it up as a meeting of sorts by releasing a readout: Today, President Obama invited Prime Minister John Key to play a round of golf in Hawaii. The two leaders have long discussed their shared interest in the sport, and they enjoyed the opportunity to spend several hours together on the golf course.

According to a detailed report, Kim Jong Un fed his Uncle Jang Song Thaek to a pack of hungry dogs, a deviation from the traditional method of execution by firing squad. "Jang was stripped naked and thrown into a cage, along with his five closest aides. Then 120 hounds, starved for three days, were allowed to prey on them until they were completely eaten up. This is called "quan jue", or execution by dogs." The report, appearing in a Chinese controlled newspaper, stated that the "execution" lasted for one hour and was supervised by Kim Jong Un and "300 senior officials."

Despite conventional wisdom, Republicans and Democrats can agree on important issues. As a lifelong Republican, I agree with Democrat Warren Buffett: Obamacare should be scrapped. I also agree with Hollywood liberals that NSA spying on millions of innocent Americans is a violation of our collective right to privacy. And I agree with feminist Camille Paglia that Hillary Clinton disqualified herself as a presidential candidate with her handling of Benghazi. Here’s why: The most important duty of the commander in chief is to keep Americans safe. Before the deadly Sept 11, 2012, attack resulting in the brutal murders of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens,

Bitter cold. Below-zero. Blizzard conditions. Sorry, Northeast. But those are phrases you´ll be using a lot Friday amid a monster storm. And not just the Northeast, forecasters said. About one-third of the nation -- approximately 100 million people in 22 states -- is in the path this storm. But the Northeast will be hardest-hit, the National Weather Service said. "Heaviest snow will fall from central New York to the Massachusetts coast. Blizzard conditions are possible for eastern Long Island and the Massachusetts coast.
