Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said it was “unacceptable” for the Defense Department to leak news about lifting the ban on women serving in direct combat positions prior to briefing Congress. News reports on Wednesday citing “senior defense officials” said that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta was lifting the ban, put in place in 1994. Specific details were not provided but it was reported that Panetta would make an official announcement on Thursday. In a May 9, 2012 photo, Capt. Sara Rodriguez, 26, of the 101st Airborne Division, carries
Comments: It doesn´t matter with these criminals, they make up their own rules. Since when have they followed rules or the Constitution?
~~“I do not believe this will be a broad opening of combat roles for women, because as the 2012 report indicated, there are ‘serious practical barriers which must be resolved so that the department can maximize the safety and privacy of all military members while maintaining military readiness,’” said Inhofe.~~
Thank you, Senator Inhofe...Imagine, just imagine, if President Bush did anything like this? The press would be in an uproar....Un-Believable!
The Propaganda Machine/MSM needed a story, to avoid covering any mention of Benghazi.
Although women in combat is a small %, it fits nicely into agenda 21... to destroy the family unit.
I´m waiting to see if they´ll advertise the Free Sterilization part of ObieCare or just implement it covertly, like in Africa & India... in our milk... Or maybe Sensa.

Ok, I hate to suggest this, but let´s take this to the logical extreme. Let´s revise the UCMJ and eliminate those silly old ideas concerning sodomy and adultery. Revise the Selective Service Registration to require the registry of all. Oh phooey, lets just institute a mandatory four years military service for everyone. Then maybe some of the Lofo,s will wake up and realize that this stuff has consequences.
What´s the weight of their field packs? 110 pounds? What are the requirements for physical preparation for front-line warriors? How much will our forces be degraded (i.e., someone else will either have to carry more in their field packs, a man, or carry the "woman soldier´s" pack, and the physical preparation will be minor compared to what the men have to go through and the result will be crippling to our military´s ability to fight wars)? This country has truly gone insane. But as hillary clinton screams when our people are slaughtered...who cares, what does it matter?
Having been in combat all I will say is as long as they don´t lower the standards for PT, etc and the requirements for the elite forces OK. That being said when the first woman is KIA from this the press will have a field day. That is a slap in the face to all the men who have died for their country. You wanted it ladies now deal with the dangers.
The Hill´s article on this topic mentions that this could have "outside implications" on issues such as the current law requiring adult males to register for Selective Service. What they don´t say, and maybe Panetta hasn´t addressed it, is whether or not women will be required to register too.

The only mitigant I can see has to do with the current nature of warfare. The distance between the front and the rear areas is now so compressed that everybody in the theater of operation is effectively in a combat zone. To that end it is appropriate to recognize that all are at risk.
But I still see bad karma coming down over this decision.
I understand that it does not include infantry, but there are plenty of other positions that are in harms way. 139 women have died in the two wars. This does open up more opportunities for women and it is on a volunteer basis.
P.S. A pack does not weigh 110 pounds. (Don´t volunteer to carry the motor plate!)
The vast majority of the women who think that women serving in ground combat units is cool are not about to join the military in any capacity, not alone become an infantry person and subject themselves to the extreme hardships that have always been associated with sustained ground combat.
Oh boo hoo. Women wanted Equal Opportunity. They wanted everything men had. Now they have it. Pull up your big girl panties and step up. Or shut up. Your whining over the last few decades has done nothing but create chaos.
Another female Navy vet here: most women in the services don´t want to be in combat (except perhaps those in the Marines), just a few of more crazy ones. It´s always the loud minority who get heard. Another example would be putting women on subs: most of us think it´s a bad idea, but there are those few. And for those who say it could be an all-female command, are you kidding me?! That´s a horrible idea.
Sorry, hit submit too soon. These women who are pushing this need to watch some documentaries on some of what the men had to deal with in France circa WWII. It was beyond ugly.
Feminists getting orgasmic about the so-called equal opportunity aspects of front line duty had better get a grip. In our PC culture today I foresee a lot of friendly fire incidents when the women get too cranky and the men don´t want to put up with the nagging anymore.
Having women on the front line is made to order for the 24-7, if-it-bleeds-it-leads, femininized, overwrought news media. When Whitney Houston OD´d, all you could find on TV for three days was gnashing and wailing! Talk about slouching to Gomorra. Now picture the death of a female infantry soldier and the multiple days of showing her precious children mourning their Mom.
I thought Obama said (re Sandy Hook) "If we can save even ONE live...."
There are many roles in the military suitable for women, even if not at the tip of the spear. Unfortunately for women, unless a commander has experience at the tip of the spear, those who are presently there may not have confidence in him/her. That won’t change, and it limits women’s ability to be promoted to the highest levels of leadership.
And when do women start registering for the draft? Unbelievable that so many women will be sacrificed in combat just to satisfy the ambitions of a comparatively small number of women in the officer corps who hanker to be "real" generals. When does the Betty Friedan Brigade get suited up and ready to march to the front lines?
This is not some affirmative action/equal rights policy. Unless you´ve been on the front lines facing death every day, you can´t make the smart decision on this issue. Panetta made the politically correct decision (as the obama regime defines it) but not the right one.
For tens of thousands of years of history, the men fought wars while women took care of home. Only in dire circumstances, when the army was destroyed and enemy was invading the home did women fight, therefore they should be trained to fight but not on the offensive.
And when the soldiers are captured and the females are tortured or raped, what are the men going to do? Won´t they give up more quickly? Doesn´t this just make the man´s natural role as the warrior so much harder??? What are they trying to do to our civilizatoin.
The lefty/LIEberal pols have betrayed femininity through their legislated policies since they bared all decades ago back in the ´60s. American families have been fractured by the lefty/LIEberals´ horrid policy manipulations and men haven´t been done any favors either by such incredibally destructive social experimentation.
Apparently the dem party is now ALL about breaking everything in order to rebuild the entire world from square one according to their flaky template. ...This will NOT work out well.
Just another way the Dumbocrats is taking away family values. Third world countries use women in combat. The obama administration has no respect for women. We are headed for bad times under the rule of these possible dictators.
FACT: Physical standards will have to be lowered. FACT: Women need to squat to pee. How will they manage that when in a hole with men? In a fantasy world they will just take a leak whenever and whereever they need with no fear for their safety since all their fellow soldiers will "respect" their need for privacy - in a pigs eye. FACT: Women will be a detriment when heavy lifting is required. FACT: Women get pregnant and will be removed from the unit leaving a hole. FACT: Women who want out of combat will get pregnant. FACT: Can a woman carrying a rifle and backpack drag a 200 pound soldier across an open space or through rocks? Of course not, so accomodations will be required to have a woman in a small unit in close combat. FACT: Bayonets are not a thing of the past. Finally, the generals will tell the colonels to make it work. The colonels will order the majors and captains to make it work. The majors and captains will tell the Lts and NCOs do whatever it takes to make it look like it´s working and all the reports up the chain will be fudged (lied)to make it appear everything is a success. the politicians will say - see, we knew it would work, knowing they were being lied to by the generals who were lied to by the colonels who were lied to by the majors and captains who were lied to by the Lts and NCOs and they will lie up the chain because they would rather fail at some future date whan fired for not making it work.
THIS DECISION BY SECY. PANCETTA, AND THE REGIME, IS JUST WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS, IT BOGGLES THE MIND. WOMEN IN THE MILITARY SERVICE ARE NEEDED IN SO MANY JOBS. BUT NOT (AS A PREVIOUS POSTER SAID) THEY DO NOT BELONG ´ON THE TIP OF THE SPEAR´.
COMBAT IS HARD AND BAD ENOUGH ON MEN,PUTTING WOMEN OUT THERE WITH THEM CREATES ANOTHER SET OF PROBLEMS, AND PUTS ALL THE COMBATANTS AT RISK. But then this rule is being pushed by a bunch of people (men and women who will never have to face the results of their selfish push to create what is deemed as currently a Politically Correct Policy. [I know I put most of it in caps, but this needs to be screamed at those dufus civilians in Washington whose agenda makes no sense to those who will live and die because of it.)
James, I respect you a lot. But you Pubs let Hillary off the hook yesterday and Benghazi is now a dead issue. Please return your attention to this.......women in combat can wait a zillion more years as far as I am concerned. Very sad the Republican party has zero backbone.......
this wholethin of women inthe army front lines is a fund-raising letter. They leftys a re jusdt checking off creepy points in their donk commandment list. There is no money to implement this. I think the ranks at the front will look like my independent grocery market that runs on alternative life styles, Well it used to anyway. Now it is empty at dinner time because the Moms won;t expose their kids to the "alternative life-style" staff. (not that there is anything wrong with aall that-Seinfeld)
The man on the voicemail is flirty and clearly asking for a date. But it´s the name on the message that´s raising red flags. "Hi, it´s your newly favorite congressman, Bob Filner. You know, the one who fell in love with you at your last speech," he told Eldonna Fernandez. He also asked her out to dinner in the message. "I don´t want to wait ´til you come back to have dinner with you," he said. That message was left a year ago, while Filner was serving his 10th term as a U.S. congressman.
Comedian Jay Leno may be a multimillionaire, but he thanked President Obama during an appearance on his show Tuesday night for helping him get health care for his shop employees. “The guys who worked at my shop for me are all over 50. They never had health care,” Leno explained. “And I was able to get it now because you can’t be turned down. So thank you for that.” “You can’t be turned down because of a preexisting condition,” Obama said proudly as the crowd applauded. “That’s part of what we’re going to be doing.”
With all of Hollywood prepared to bow down to the First Lady of Daytime Talk for her role in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Oprah is taking the opportunity to push forward her favorite narrative: America remains a deeply racist place. In an interview with The Grio, Oprah, who plays a butler’s wife in the White House in The Butler, says that Trayvon Martin, the black teenager shot by George Zimmerman, is just like 1955 murder victim Emmitt Till: “Let me just tell you, in my mind, same thing. But you can [get] stuck in that and not
A Department of Health and Human Services official told the House Ways and Means Committee that immigrants living in the United States on temporary visas are eligible for federally subsidized health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, “depending on their income.” “It was my understanding it was just going to be those that are citizens of the United States or here as permanent legal residents,” Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Jim Gerlach said at a Thursday hearing on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. “Are there folks beyond that that are eligible for tax credit –
The Obama administration is falling into a state of passivity on national security because it cannot bring itself to fully admit that the war against al-Qaeda is a war. The president’s subordinates, according to a Washington Post story today, say that they would like to bring the al-Qaeda prisoners held at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan back to the U.S. for trial. This is a terrible idea that should have been permanently squashed by congressional rejection of Attorney General Eric Holder’s plan to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in downtown New York City
Former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney is facing harsh criticism from some Tea Partiers after his Tuesday evening remarks denouncing those who want to fight to defund Obamacare in the upcoming continuing resolution (CR) that funds government operations. Speaking to a New Hampshire GOP fundraised, the failed 2012 GOP candidate said he opposes Obamacare but shunned efforts by conservatives to try to defund it. “I badly want ObamaCare to go away, and stripping it of funds has appeal,” Romney said at the GOP fundraiser, according to The Hill. “But we need to exercise great care about any talk
Newly uncovered video shows Lois Lerner discussing the political pressure that swirled around the IRS in 2010. Lerner says "everyone" was "screaming at" the IRS to stop the flood of money pouring into the 2010 elections through 501(c)(4) groups as a result of Citizens United. Lerner spoke to a small group at Duke´s Sanford School of Public Policy on October 19, 2010, just two weeks before the wave election that brought the Tea Party and Republicans significant gains in Congress. During her appearance Lerner was asked about the flow of money from corporations to 501(c)(4) groups.
At an AARP-Univision mayoral forum this morning, mayoral contender Anthony Weiner pulled out the age card to taunt his most vocal challengers, 69-year-old Doe Fund founder George McDonald. Weiner is 48. Before the debate, Weiner put a hand on McDonald´s back and said hello, prompting McDonald to reply: "I would appreciate if you would never touch me again." Weiner retorted: "What are you going to do about it, grandpa?" according to two sources. The feud between the two has been simmering since last week. At a debate in Laurelton, Queens on Thursday, McDonald called Weiner a "self-pleasuring freak." He said he was
Just days after Yemen´s president visited the White House, his government and the U.S. are at odds over the U.S. decision to pull most diplomatic personnel from the Arab country amidst fears of an impending terrorist attack. Yemen´s embassy in Washington said Tuesday that the move is counterproductive and advances the goals of militant groups. "While the government of Yemen appreciates foreign governments´ concern for the safety of their citizens, the evacuation of embassy staff serves the interests of the extremists and
SAN DIEGO - Mayor Bob Filner sought a personal relationship from a San Diego nurse who asked him to help an injured Marine ensnarled in Veterans Administration red tape, lawyer Gloria Allred said Tuesday. The licensed vocation nurse, Michelle Tyler, became the 11th woman to publicly accuse Filner of unwanted sexual advances. One, former mayoral Communications Director Irene McCormack Jackson, has retained Allred and filed a lawsuit against Filner and the city. The latest alleged advances took place in the mayor´s office on June 11, about one month before Filner was first accused of sexual harassment
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said there is “no question” that al-Qaeda is on the run, even though U.S. outposts remain closed due to terror threats throughout the world. “We do stand by that,” Carney said on Tuesday when asked if he stands by his previous comments that al-Qaeda has been weakened despite the recent threat, according to the pool report. “There´s no question that core al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan has been severely diminished,” he said. “It´s leadership decimated and there´s no question it´s on the run.”
Michael Hayden, the retired Air Force general who ran the National Security Agency and the CIA, revealed on Tuesday that the administration has no plan to defend against an electromagnetic pulse — and isn´t doing much to come up with one. At a conference to discuss threats to the U.S. electrical grid, especially from a cyber attack, Hayden said that there isn´t a solution to handling an EMP attack, which can come from a solar eruption or nuclear bomb. Asked about EMP defense at the conference hosted by the Bipartisan Policy Center,
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
A poll released Friday by Public Policy Polling found that Alaska voters would pick former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the state´s former Republican governor, Sarah Palin, if the two women were to face off in the 2016 presidential election. Clinton led with 49 percent in the hypothetical match-up, with Palin at 40 percent, a nine-point gap. As of July 3, Republicans comprised 27 percent of the state´s registered voters and Democrats made up just 14 percent. The last time Alaskans opted for the Democrats´ presidential candidate was in 1964. Clinton trails five other hypothetical GOP candidates –
In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus threatened to pull the group’s partnership with NBC and CNN for 2016 GOP presidential primary debates if the networks moved ahead with plans to air films on Hillary Clinton. “If they have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote stating that the RNC will neither partner with these networks in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates they sponsor,” Preibus said in a statement. In individual letters to CNN President Jeff Zucker and NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt,
The Pentagon has placed its elite cadre of special operations teams on full alert to launch preemptive attacks against suspected al Qaeda targets across the globe, according to reports. The American special forces teams have spent the past week waiting for U.S. military and intelligence officials to confirm the whereabouts of the terror cell plotting to attack U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Mideast and North Africa. Unnamed sources told CNN on Monday that the teams were poised to carry out the preemptive strikes, but declined to comment on where the U.S. forces were located or which potential
Oprah Winfrey on Monday said the killings of Trayvon Martin and Emmett Till are the "same thing." This transpired during an interview with The Grio that aired on NBC´s Today show. OPRAH WINFREY: It´s so easy during this time: Trayvon Martin, Trayvon Martin parallel to Emmett Till, let me just tell you. In my mind, same thing. But you can, you can get stuck in that and not allow yourself to move forward and to see how far we´ve come. Really? Martin and Till are the same thing?
In an exclusive interview for The Grio, NBCUniversal’s African-American news and opinion website, Oprah Winfrey weighed in with her unvarnished thoughts on the killing of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman. Winfrey said that, in her mind, Martin’s murder and that of Emmett Till in 1955 – whose killers were also acquitted – were the “same thing.” However, she added that it is important to keep in mind how much race relations in America have progressed over the last half-century. In a clip of the interview which aired on NBC’s Today, Oprah told The Grio’s Chris
Two Republican senators said Tuesday that they´ve personally urged the Egyptian government to release Muslim Brotherhood prisoners, after hosting meetings with top officials in Cairo as part of an Obama administration-sanctioned visit. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who is in Cairo along with Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-.S.C., made clear that the two U.S. lawmakers are representing the views of Congress and "do not speak for the White House." Still, they are among the most prominent U.S. representatives in the country this week, as a wave of international mediators tries to nudge the country´s military-backed government to resolve the standoff
NEW YORK — Why doesn´t Anthony Weiner just quit? It´s a question angry voters, pundits and fellow politicians have been asking almost nonstop in the nearly two weeks since the New York City mayoral candidate´s latest sexting bombshell, which has sent his poll numbers plummeting and turned his campaign into a chaotic sideshow. Weiner insists he´s staying in the race no matter what. And experts say that beyond the former congressman´s well-known ego and combativeness, his stance may just be rooted in political calculation. A leading theory: Weiner takes his hits on the campaign trail, gives the media a chance
