It’s not poverty that’s fattening -
it´s the bad eating habits

Too many takeaways, too little proper food, too much grazing and too few family meals are to blame for obesity among the poor. When a government minister says something that is not only true but also profoundly discomfiting we are surprised and even shocked, so cynical have we become about the intellectual probity of our political class. Anna Soubry, a junior health minister, is therefore to be congratulated for her truthful but disquieting remarks this week about obesity and its statistical association, in modern Britain, with poverty. It is generally accepted that obesity, bringing with it a host of

Many times the problem is the dollar amount of the food assistance. Carbs and fast food are addictive. Another problem is letting the children are fill the cart.

When you look at what other people purchase, it says a lot. How many diabets or those with high BP have chips, soda, ice cream, and donuts in the cart ?

The bottom line is wrist to mouth disease.

At our home, our dive into being below the poverty line, we noticed an increase in carbs and a sharp decrease in proteins. We aren´t eating right anymore, not because of ignorance, but we just need something to ( as mom used to say) stick to our ribs. Unfortunately it sticks everywhere else as well.

South Carolina´s military communities are bracing for an uncertain future after Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Monday called for deep cuts to the Army in 2015. While Fort Jackson in Columbia - where more than 45,000 recruits are trained annually - is the obvious target, Charleston´s and other installations also may be in the cross hairs since Hagel also called for a new round of base-closure reviews in 2017. Still, the decision on rekindling a Base Realignment and Closure Commission depends on Congress, which has delayed the assessments in recent years in the interest of protecting jobs at home.

It is not often that the American military takes its lead from its poorer British relations, so we should take it as a backhanded compliment that the US Army is to follow the example set by its British counterpart by reducing its manpower to its lowest level for decades. While Britain has cut the size of its standing Army to its lowest level since before the Napoleonic wars, the reductions announced by Chuck Hagel, the US Defence Secretary, will only see it scaled down to its smallest level since before it joined the Second World War, down to around 440,000

A pill which slashes blood sugar levels and offers hope to millions of diabetes sufferers has been launched in the UK. The breakthrough treatment is being unveiled at the same time that the drug watchdog has recommended it for use on the NHS. Experts say the drug, canagliflozin, which is taken once a day, is a vital new weapon in the battle against the Type 2 diabetes epidemic and its devastating complications. It reduces blood sugar levels in people for whom diet and lifestyle measures or other blood sugar-lowering medicines do not work well enough, say the manufacturers Janssen.

The news that Piers Morgan’s eponymous prime-time CNN talk show Piers Morgan Tonight has been canned has not, it would be fair to say, been greeted with an outpouring of anguish. The former Mirror editor neatly dissects opinion. Some people despise him. And the rest really despise him. Russia has stepped up its rhetoric against Ukraine´s new Western-leaning leadership as tensions rise over the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovych. Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev said interim authorities in Kiev had conducted an "armed mutiny". And the Russian foreign ministry said dissenters in mainly Russian-speaking regions faced suppression. Earlier, Ukraine´s interim interior minister said an arrest warrant had been issued for Mr Yanukovych. MPs voted to remove Mr Yanukovych on Saturday. His whereabouts are unknown but he was reported to have been in the Crimean peninsula on Sunday. Russia, angered at the loss of its political ally, has already recalled

The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) has stepped up its surveillance of senior German government officials since being ordered by Barack Obama to halt its spying on Chancellor Angela Merkel, Bild am Sonntag paper reported on Sunday. Revelations last year about mass U.S. surveillance in Germany, in particular of Merkel´s mobile phone, shocked Germans and sparked the most serious dispute between the transatlantic allies in a decade. Bild am Sonntag said its information stemmed from a high-ranking NSA employee in Germany and that those being spied on included Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, a close confidant of Merkel.

President Bush signed Medicare Part D into law in 2003 to subsidize prescription drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries.
