| A day after President Obama vowed an aggressive global war on global warming, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman delivered a political hot potato to the White House in the form of state approval of a re-routed Keystone XL pipeline. Given the pressing domestic need for a) more reliable sources of oil and b) thousands of long-delayed, good-paying jobs, you might think federal approval of the endeavor with our closest neighbor and best friend is a gimme. Ah, but we are just three days past the middle of the 2,922-day Obama era.

We err when we assume President Barack Hussein Obama wants to make things better for us when it comes to gas and oil.
That is wrong. He is interested in keeping prices sky-high in order to make his ´green´ energy projects cost-effective.
If the price of gas at the pump falls to $2.00 or even 2.50, all the windmills and solar panels and Solyndras will be even more of an albatross around his skinny neck.
He will not sign something that will make him look worse.

So, that would make it a win-win-win for many on the left.
Deprive the U.S. of oil which would help boost the economy. Check
Improve China´s access to an inexpensive reliable oil supply, thus strengthening them strategically. Check
Alienate an ally and trading partner of the U.S.. Check

Rarely if ever mentioned...GE and Berkshire Hathaway manufacture all of the rail cars currently hauling the oil that would travel through this line...and control ther tracks it rides on. Two of the Big Three Tankcar Companies are based in Chicago. And perhaps most unmentioned, The delay has changed our trading relationship PERMANENTLY with Canada. We had an exclusive on their energy exports, at a reduced rate. It has been rescinded, never to return, and will affect the prices not only of this heavy crude but also all other forms of Oil, Gas, Coal and generated Electricity.

President Obama was on again Monday about gun laws, not enforcing the existing ones. But getting some new ones, any new ones so he can claim some kind of political victory after all of the promises and vows he made in the emotional days last December. But Obama wasn´t working on the senators from his own party who will actually determine the fate of these measures. That would be political leadership. No, Obama was out of town again, up in Hartford for a photo op with Connecticut legislators and some Newtown families.

It´s a good thing this column is available online, so that residents of Memphis, New Orleans and Riverside, California can learn how unsafe their city is without having to venture outside. Those are the bottom three metropolitan areas where residents said they felt least safe walking alone at night in their neighborhood. From the safety of their little work cubicles somewhere, the number gnomes over at the Gallup organization have been accumulating data on perceived human well-being as part of their polling calls on many subjects. From that data comes the 50 most and least safe cities.

From up here, 240 miles above Broadway, New York City can look like a pretty nice place. No traffic. No garbage. No smells. No crime. In a swift and strange reversal, Obama administration officials Thursday rushed to play down their own recent announcements of defensive U.S. military movements in response to threats and provocations from North Korea. The hereditary Communist dictatorship of the Kim family that took over the North after World War II has always been quirky, unpredictable and, well, mentally unbalanced by any modern governing standards. Remember how since-demoted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said we´d have to pass the massive ObamaCare health law to find out what´s in it? Well, now three years later that´s happening and a lot of people are not liking what they see. Remember how ObamaCare was going to save you money? Not going to happen. North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”
