Katmandu, Nepal — An official says Nepal´s government will begin issuing citizenship certificates with the category "third gender" for people who do not wish to be identified as male or female. Activists hailed the decision, saying it was an achievement for gay and transgender rights. Home Ministry Bhola Siwakot says an order to issue the certificates was sent to all district administration offices. Nepal´s Supreme Court ruled in 2007 that the government should issue "third gender" citizenship certificates but it took five years to implement the decision. Sunilbabu Pant of the Blue Diamond Society says the simple and clear guidelines for

US judge strikes down Okla.

Tulsa, Okla. — A federal judge struck down Oklahoma´s gay marriage ban Tuesday, but headed off any rush to the altar by setting aside his order while state and local officials complete an appeal. It was the second time in a month that a federal judge has set aside a deeply conservative state´s limits on same-sex marriage, after Utah´s ban was reversed in December. In his ruling, U.S. District Judge Terence Kern described Oklahoma´s ban on same-sex marriage as "an arbitrary, irrational exclusion of just one class of Oklahoma citizens from a governmental benefit." The decision drew criticism from the

Edison – This summer, when the monument to Thomas Alva Edison on Christie Street reopens after two years of renovations, a small but symbolically significant change will take place. The 14-foot-tall glass replica light bulb on top of the 118-foot-tall tower will no longer burn with an array of incandescent bulbs, Edison´s signature invention. The project calls for changing the lights to the new LED bulbs, a lighting-tech leap that came well after Edison´s time. "Edison was all about innovation," said Kathleen Carlucci, the director of interpretation at Edison´s museum in the town named after him.

Black dogs don´t get as adopted as easily as others animals of other colors. The reason is largely because of some common misconceptions about them. Black dogs are mischaracterized as mean and potentially violent and according to NBC News. Black Dog Syndrome is a phenomenon in which dogs with black fur often go unadopted because of misinformed stereotypes. Black dogs are are euthanized at a much higher rate than dogs with different complexions. Many owners of black dogs say they are sweet, lovable, but also unwanted. The chances of being adopted are poor if you´re a black dog.

Jefferson City, MO. — Having failed in an earlier effort to bar federal agents from enforcing gun regulations in Missouri, conservative lawmakers are trying a new tack this year: banding together with other like-minded states to defy certain federal laws at the same time. Supporters believe it will be more difficult for the federal government to shrug off such statutes if more states act together. Missouri’s latest proposal, introduced this past week, would attempt to nullify certain federal gun control regulations from being enforced in the state and subject law enforcement officers to criminal and civil penalties for carrying out such

Black water gushed onto horrified members of the international press awaiting the arrival of Hollywood glitziest stars dressed in their finest gala attire. The press fled from the spill as the Beverly Hills Fire Department rushed to the scene to clean up the smelly mess in front of Hollywood´s famous Beverly Hilton Hotel. An E! France´s First Lady Valerie Trierweiler was yesterday facing the prospect of becoming the first in history to be kicked out of the Elysee Palace. It follows humiliating revelations that her partner, President Francois Hollande, has ‘fallen in love’ with a woman almost 20 years his junior. Mr Hollande’s relationship with actress Julie Gayet, 41, was exposed by a series of pictures in French Closer magazine which show him travelling to see her on a moped. But beyond a new romance, opponents claim the scandal exposes publicly funded deceit, security lapses, and the huge cost of a first lady who no

Months and months ago, when Barack Obama could be bothered to say anything at all about the attacks in Ben-ghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012, the president promised to bring the perpetrators to justice. That was before White House spokesman Jay Carney dismissed the attacks as something that “happened a long time ago.” It’s been 16 months. Have you ever lied about reading a book? Maybe you didn’t want to seem stupid in front of someone you respected. Maybe you rationalized it by reasoning that you had a familiarity with the book, or knew who the author was, or what the story was about, or had glanced at its Wikipedia page. Or maybe you had tried to read the book, even bought it and set it by your bed for months unopened, hoping that it would impart what was in it merely via proximity (if that worked, please email me). Several counties had no such centers and others were only open two days a week, leading McGinley to rule that the law “unnecessarily burden[s] the hundreds of thousands
